You dont have anything to worry about if youre carbis road worthy and you are not under the influence...Let this sink in...And I am not making this up...I know of a provincial traffic cop that let a guy go by just cautioning him...7 mins later she got dispatched to assist on a accident scene...this accident happened 1km from where she initially spoke to him through her window...It came that the same guys started racing another car, that car stopped at the red light, they continued going and took out a a Kia Sorento...killing the driver and rights rear passenger....That guys were coming from Killarney,CCTV from a nearby building caught some of the "race"...that Cop ended up on suicide watch with far reaching impacts psychologically...the "racer" and his freinds were unharmed and more upset about the car being damaged...The driver of the Kia died in hospital and the 11 year old at the back died on impact...I know this Cop and her reason for not pulling over the car initially was because she didnt want to fine them as the talking through the window was enough for her to practise discretion. Point I am making its not about waiting for cars to fine them but its like when you leave a sporting event you are amped up to perform that sport even just as a spectator...often there is alchohol involved and other things but common sense is gone when these things happen and then it takes Cops to police adults about things they should already know like having road worthy cars and being sober and not speeding on public roads.

With just one track, many people cant afford to race there often, and spectators can't always afford the entry fee. The city can do more to keep racing off the streets by building additional tracks.

The City of Cape Town is delusional to think that this type of illegal activity takes priority over the problem we have with the taxi mafia, the rob the tax base of huge amounts of taxes each year yet the pay almost zero tax, but the City feels its more important to police tax payers who do illegal street racing. Interesting story. In my opinion this deserved a deeper look. I don't get the sense from the one "street racer" and the other injured, former racer, that you got much of an insight into the underground racing community. The street racer interview was not very convincing. "If you know you fast you fast" lol. Would have been cool to get a more human angle on the people racing and see some more of their cars.

They should focus on the murders , hijacking, human trafficking and corruption in South Africa, not Street racing, the priorities of this country is shocking

Carte Blanche, street racing is the least of this country's worries, let those people race. Cops would rather target street racers because they are easier targets.

I put a cone filter on my Golf mk1, took it to the track. So much torque it twisted the chassis coming off the line.

Bring back the old wing field raceway in cape town where if you want to race till early hours of the morning without problems and people just in general, talking , having fun and having a get together.... Gone are the days where people are scared to even leave their own houses due to the corrupt world we live in with gangsters, theft, hijacks etc etc. but they don't mind spending hundreds of thousands on drones and nonsense for racing but they can't do the same to keep communities safe from violence and gang wars...

A boundary runs through it.....and that OC said over his dead body, so maybe I should check in and find out if A he is late or B he's been replaced. Lots of work, if at all possible, to revive that space.

When i was still a student at UWC and staying in Belhar opposite the Spar complex,we used to hear them racing almost every night. The cops did nothing to abate this. They were so brazen about it.

Taxis endanger public lives everyday...but no ghost squads on these busy roads where taxi's race eachother on yellow lanes! Be on stand by in the mornings and afternoons during peak time!!!

We used to do it in the mid 90's on the Rustenberg road in PTA West. It was well organized in those days. There were other spots in PTA west but they were city streets and dangerous. These days......Eish.

Illegal street racing has probably been some of my safest and memorable experiences. The media loves to villify the people doing it but in actuality these are some of the most responsible and caring people you'll meet. I'd rather the government focus on the taxi industry than street racing
