Why did you not use the same technique on tomb stone painting as this one. Just curious you added protectant to this one and not tomb stones. TIA
@IsaacAlexanderDIY
@IsaacAlexanderDIY 3 жыл бұрын
@@leginagonzales4264 The reason I added foam coat to the pumpkin is to make the pumpkin stronger and have a hard coat on it. It’s not for protective measures from the elements. The gravestones are already hard because insulation foam board is a solid piece. You could add the foam coat to the grave stones but it would be money wasted since the Dryloc paint gives it the texture that is needed for the gravestones.

I’m a diabetic & I get my insulin via mail order. Between me, my husband & my mom we get about 20 styrofoam coolers a year. Now I can recycle some of them into holiday decorations instead of sending them to the trash! I’ll use the ones you recommended for the top & bottom layers since they are solid but I’ll use the cooler for the middle layers & recycle them! Thank you!

You can do all the shaping using the hot wire, including making the ribs (makes much less mess). You should only need to use the horse brush for the final surface. Then hit it with a heat gun or propane torch to eliminate the fuzzy balls. Then paint with “oops” returned paint, dark color (then light color). As soon as you paint use bedsheet or other cloth and cover entire pumpkin and paint over as you go. It gives it a strong skin. You can then sprinkle it with mortar mix while the paint is still wet (will creat a stronger skin) let dry and they paint with lighter or darker paint (to ensure proper coverage) then add coats of paint until you can no longer see the material) finally paint the last coats with the desired color.

I was thinking the same thing. I’m all about projects that are simple & clean. 😉 Do you know if there’s a more environmentally-friendly product to use in place of styrofoam? Plus, it’s so messy! It’s almost as bad as glitter. Ha. I was cracking up as it clung to Isaac’s arms & legs.😂 I need one of those hot knives!! It was very satisfying to watch it slice so clean. 😍 Thank goodness Xmas is around the corner! Ha. 🖤💀🎃

For the hard coat, you can also use “monster mud” which is just a mixture of exterior paint and drywall joint compound in a ratio/mix of 5 parts joint compound to 1 part exterior paint. May be a little cheaper/quicker than the Foam Factory option. This will also help fill in smaller holes and give you a smoother finish if you couldn’t get it all sanded the way you wanted. Great video!
@IsaacAlexanderDIY
@IsaacAlexanderDIY 3 жыл бұрын
For any future projects I will not be using monster mud as I have not had much success with it. We have wet Octobers and the various items that I have monster mud coated have ended up wilting, melting or becoming soft. I have followed a couple of different recipes - including the 5 to 1 ratio and still get same results. It’s perfect when it’s sunny or dry but once it rains it becomes soft. Not sure why I never had success with it
@fussguss3011
@fussguss3011 3 жыл бұрын
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY If you have a wetter season I definitely understand why monster mud isn’t your first choice. Maybe a different ratio would help it stand up a little better. I’m not sure what Tractor Supply stores in other states may do with their Styrofoam but the majority of people have success finding it at that store. The issue is that it’s manager discretion. Some stores have a policy that their Styrofoam must be shipped back to the distributor while others are more than happy to get rid of it. You could also try Facebook marketplace. That’s how I initially found my Styrofoam blocks for free from an RV/truck supply company that was just giving them away for free

In my newest video that’s launching next month, I talk about how using an electric knife did not work out for me. Everything is too big and the blades are too small. Perhaps it worked for you because your village is smaller but when cutting up something that’s 5 feet wide by 5 feet deep, an electric knife just doesn’t do it unfortunately

This video just showed up in my recommend list. Even though I'm not into making anything like this. I find it cool someone else does. Plus re using styrofoam I'm sure was destined for the trash is cool. I'm into recycling and re using. I subscribed to you. Take care.

Thank you so much for this awesome comment, John. I absolutely hate styrofoam because of the damaging effects it has on the environment, our waterways and the oceans. But since this is a prop that I don’t intend on getting rid of, I am happy to remove a lot of styrofoam that would’ve otherwise ended up in the landfill’s. Glad to have you as a new subscriber

So funnn! Omg it’s like Cinderella’s carriage. A lot of effort but worth it. Also what a nice huge house and pretty garden. A house as nice as that deserved that nice ornament. Can’t wait to see more crafts from your channel 💖 ps I loved that you used Halloween background music instead of leaving it muted while in speed mood.

Thank you so much for these wonderful comments. It does look like Cinderella‘s carriage. It was time consuming but definitely super fun to make. Hopefully next year I can make another one to accompany it.. Glad you loved it 🎃

Brilliant job,lots of creativity going on.I agree the frame foam is much nicer to use as it does not expand at a rapid rate Great to see how you explain with a great attention to detail Happy Halloween !
