July 2022.
Nene is an estimated 50-year-old female gorilla, the oldest gorilla in captivity in Japan.
Nene spends most of her time alone, but occasionally members of her troop come to check on her.
On this day, it was interesting to see Nene surprised by the sudden appearance of Shabani, the leader of the troop.
I hope she will be in good health in the coming days of high temperatures.

Who knows how she arrived from Cameroon, but she certainly deserves our respect and admiration. She had reached a wonderful old age and I hope she continues to stay well because she really is entitled to a peaceful old age ❤️

Agree. I always felt that the main reason Nene is still here with us because of the devotion, protection and love she has for her Prince, Kiyomasa. Nene still dotes on him and is very protective over him. I think her love for him and her wanting to make sure he is OK/safe gives her a strong will to live. I think (sadly) when Kiyomasa moves on to a new home, Nene will die from a broken heart. Kiyomasa is her heartbeat and if she is here when he leaves, I feel she will feel no reason to continue on. She will die from a broken heart.😪 I wish there were more Gorilla-Kids here. What will this family do when Annie and Kiyomasa move on to start their own families at a new location? It will just be the adults and when there are younger babies, at least then can focus and get a bit of distraction by caring for them. Especially Shabani, he adores his Gorilla-Kids and loves to play with them. He will be heartbroken. Nene is too old to play the way Shabani likes to play and I don't think Al reacts much to Shabani "teasing" her into chasing or playing. Its sad to think of their well being after Annie and Kiyo move on. And Annie and Kiyomasa are so bonded and close. They are best friends and love to play and cuddle with each other. It's sad there isnt a way to explain why they are moving on ( as we humans do to find a mate and new home ) They do this in the wild, and we know they must move on as they grow. Its just sad to imagine how scared, confused and heartbroken they must feel when all of this happens. For all of them. This is a beautiful little family. I wish them all the best in the future. But, I worry what will happen mentally and physically to Nene and Shabani. Like humans, depression, loss and negative changes can seriously deteriorate our well being and health. I hope they all cope well with the changes to come. What will shabani do without his kids to play with and dote all over? Nene without her sweet, Kiyomasa? Heartbreaking to think....

Well her parents were probably killed and she was kidnapped. My stepfather is from Africa and if you think it’s bad now you should of seen how bad it was 40 years ago! Social media has helped the world to see how bad the situation. But he said it was horrible back then. There are so many orphans in Africa and not nearly enough workers. There is a video of one girl surrounded by at least 15 orphans and they all want her attention or to sit on her lap. I had to stop watching them because I was getting depressed. So Whatever NeNe’s situation was it wasn’t a good one😔

@@MySkinnydip , Sadly, I agree with that. There is a guy named, André Bauma who runs the Senkwekwe Center in the Congo. He is amazing and he and his staff dedicated their lives to protecting and saving these traumatized Gorilla Babies. Hard to imagine a human so evil. Hopefully they can stop and jail many of these heartless humans.

Nene was born in the wild if she was was never taken from there she would have been dead along time ago. The keepers at this zoo take great care of her. I'm not saying they should take anything from its home to put in a zoo but there is a little upside to her story.
