If you just put a dead animal in there it wouldn't eat and would starve, plus mantis shrimp eat crabs all the time in nature. It's either the crabs that are gonna get sold to someone else anyways or don't make your pet slowly starve to death

I had a Mantis shrimp in my saltwater aquarium as a stowaway and they are nasty. I noticed my fish disappearing then I discovered the Mantis shrimp. I was cleaning the inside of the tank one day and spotted the shrimp out in the open. I had thick rubber gloves on and grabbed it. It cut open the glove and made my thumb bleed. It hurt pretty bad and did so for the whole day and into to the following day.
