I think Explorers had a futuristic edge but its roots are firmly planted in the 50s... loved them to bits!

I reacted very similarly the first time I played an explorer. Middle position with the same exact chords. Then once it hit the bridge went full on riff mode.

I had the exact same one and I miss it. There were two reasons why I sold it. I only had it for a couple of months. But you know, I lost my right lower leg 10 years ago and where I live I need to climb a flight of stairs to get out of my house. Always. And the stairs are steep and narrow and there’s a corner at the top. Now I guess you’ve seen the gigantic case it comes in. It doesn’t make much sense to put a big pointy guitar in an ‘easy to carry’ gig bag. So after I took it three times to the rehearsal room I knew I wasn’t going to use it much. I was exhausted before I even got into the car. I mean, to carry this gigantic big and heavy case down this narrow and steep staircase with a fake foot that is in a fixed position relative to my prosthetic leg and not fall or damage anything…, I wasn’t going to do this a lot. One of the guitars I’ve played more than most anything else is an ‘old’ black Gibson ES-347. Guitars like that come in cases similar to acoustic guitar cases that you don’t need to lift up. You can just hold it in one hand and let it hang, so that’s easy. When I found out that there’s a new era of Gretsch White Falcons, this time with a center block, I just knew I had to have it. And with pain in my heart I decided to sell the Explorer and buy the White Falcon. At least I can still say that I USED to have a Gibson Explorer. And I LOVED playing it. 😊

Hadone & sold it to buy a Tele, Explorers don't suit a baldy 66 yo...
