You guys should try to anti seize the studs that hold the waterers down. Might help to disassemble them next time

Never ending fixes on farms especially dairy farms. That water fountain seems real fidgety but works well. I could still remember the smell of manure from my younger days. Grandpa called it "honey" 🤣🤣

Neat water systems. Ours heifer barn was 3 empty oil drums cleaned an a water trough type. An on winter days when it came time to refill took two pails of hot water an fill in the water tanks.

Cattle always seem to have to help if you're within reach. I carry extra insulators, tools, staples, etc. in a 5 gal bucket when checking fences. Cows never seem to be content until they've tipped the bucket and spilled the contents. Good info on the water cups. Clean up around the dairy is a never-ending project.

I’d be interested to see a video on how y’all break in a fresh calved heifer to being milked, especially a kicker? Everyone seems to have their own way.

The very best method to working with animals is calmness and patience. I was once given a hard time for spending a lot of time loading a fresh heifer into the parlor. She had been forced in a few times already and wanted nothing to do with it. I told the people I worked for that I'm going to make my idea her Idea and once I do, you'll never have trouble with her again. Now she one of the first cows to come in.

I run a horse stable. The barn has 26 stalls with 26 Nelson 730 waterers. The way they are wired, there is a 2 amp buss fuse that fails when the heater quits working. When the fuse fails there's a little light that comes on. All our pastures have 760 Nelsons. Unfortunately they are not wired the same way. When the waterers are in constant use i have little trouble with them. We actually don't use the stalls on a regular basis because the horses are much better outside plus our labor is much less. Once or twice a year we host horsemanship clinics which requires me to turn on all the waterers. As a result of sitting they often get rust in the valve that causes them to drip, over filling the water bowl.

All we did was a poly tank under a hydrant with a tank heater. Not the best system perhaps but it does the job.

The curiosity of cows never seems to stop, they are so neat and I remember their rough licks. Thanks for showing the repair of the water cup. Somehow I knew that your dad would have replacement parts at hand. A very wise and time saving thing to do. Plus parts never get cheaper in the future. My husband was raised in the city and has no experience with farming and I love showing things like this to him. Hope all goes well with his vacation and I know his replacement crew will do well. Take Care.

It's your farm, it's your business, but I have to ask if you have ever looked at the MiraFounts? They seem to be simpler, and easier to maintain. No electric, just a lot of insulation and a simple valve. Just curious. Great teamwork and video!
@randynancywarkentine281010 ай бұрын
I’m up in Manitoba Canada and cheaped out and got four Mira Fountains. Never again, good valves but the doughnut heaters are not very good. The worst part of them is the small access hole on the side. Ritchie fountains are more money but are far better in cold climates.

@@daspicsman I once met a VP from what had been a farm equipment manufacturer, and he said they required engineers to go out with sales staff to find out what the customers and mechanics wanted. In 1990 they had a 75% quit rate from engineers that had no idea how to improve things. I miss Gehl farm equipment!
