electricridere... The GigaByke Groove is a sturdy low-speed electric scooter, technically classified as an electric bicycle thanks to the pedals, 20 mph top speed and 750 watt motor. Long comfort saddle can accommodate two riders (fold down pegs for a passenger at the rear), rear cargo rack and optional box for hauling gear. Smooth quiet motor, variable speed twist throttle activation, full suspension (though it's a bit stiff and bouncy), utilitarian fenders, LED lights, turn signals and a horn. Heavy steel frame and Lead Acid batteries make this bike less enjoyable to pedal around... I'd probably use the throttle most of the time, kickstand can rattle a bit when riding. The GigaByke Groove can be ridden without a license or insurance in most US states and is a low speed electric moped or scooter.

I've had mine for about a month now, and just love this bike! I ride it back and forth to work every day, and I'll cruise it over to the store(in town), which is about two miles from my house. I've heard stories of police giving people a hard time with these, because they don't know what it really is. I live in Illinois, and went to the DMV, and talked with them about the bike, and they said it's a bicycle, and doesn't need any kind of plates or anything. I did go online, and found some info on e-bikes for my state, and printed them out. I keep them in a zip-lock bag under my seat. So if I ever get pulled over, I can show them the papers from the state, that it really is an e-bike.

Actual range out of the box was ~18 miles in near-ideal conditions (Palo Alto, CA). So expect 10-15 miles after a few months of use and if you ride on hills. If you have some electrical engineering know-how, I retrofitted mine with a 48V 20AH lithium battery from CaliBike which performs far better -- about 25 miles. The lithium battery also is able to maintain 20 mph through most of its battery cycle. There's definitely space to cram more lithium cells in there; I seriously hope they consider coming out with an official lithium battery pack that maxes out the space in the compartment. There's easily enough volume to cram 48V 40AH worth of lithium cells.

I have some 24ah SLA betteries I plan to stick in there. I could go 23mph for 10+ miles with those batteries in my old bike

If a vehicle has pedals, whether you would personally use them or not, show us the pedals in use, some of us WOULD actually use them to save battery for when it's needed and to get exercise, and we want to see how practical they really are. That is a deal breaking piece of information for some of us.

What's most interesting to me is that the battery box just contains 4 normal lead acid 12V 14AH batteries, which you can buy in a 4 pack all day long on Ebay for 99 bucks. Have ZERO idea why these guys charge $400 for the battery pack... that's simply CRAZY given what is inside it. I've seen a seller that even sells the jumpers to go between the batteries inside the pack, so now you can simply open the box, buy 4 batteries for 99 and you're good to go. Compare that with every other eBike and it's PROPRIETARY BATTERY PACK that you WILL pay hundreds to replace, and that makes this bike a much better deal for the long run. In fact, if you could somehow buy a "replacement" battery box from them, you could then fill it for 99 bucks and have a 2nd battery to swap back and forth, not necessarily for a single ride of course, but to/from work, one battery, then evening rides on the other battery while the 1st is charging. A non-proprietary battery like this seems the way to go, and given what the LiPo looks like inside the box, you could go that route as well...

I've purchased this gigabyke groove in blue and have only had it a few days! I live in Chicago and it rides really great in the bike lane. I have took it to the store and put a milk crate with bungee cords to put the groceries in on the back. I'm lucky that I can store the bike in the bike/laundry room of my apt building. I love how it rides and my friends are all quite jealous! The battery is rather heavy and have to take it to my 3rd floor apt to charge. I highly recommend this bike for anyone looking for a nice vehicle to take you short distance running errands and doing things local with out the worry of registration and license. Regardless of it only going 16 MPH with my weight. (260 lbs)16 MPH seemed faster than I thought. No I could not compete with regular traffic but for me in the city of Chicago it's perfect to ride in the bike lane and easy to manuver on the side streets. I am having lots of fun with this bike and so far I'm very happy with my purchase... I wish it wasn't as heavy (battery too) but otherwise I do love it and give it 4 and 3/4 of stars out of 5.

+Neezy Ko - Where is a good quality source for reliable cells? And all the parts? Seems like a lot of work though, but the benefits are worth it - the battery becomes much lighter, charges faster, and you get more power too. I think they should offer that as an option.

Crap 16mph seriously? I just ordered this bike to replace an old one that took me uphill at 17mph (23 on flat) and I'm 260lbs too. If this goes only 16, I'll be angry.

This is by far the best form factor for an electric two wheeler available today. Extremely comfortable and practical. I rode this for a whole month in Montreal utilizing the bike lanes, going in parks etc. No wasted time looking for parking either. Wish the speed and power limitations could be taken away for motorcycle license holders.

Hi there. I could easily be called "Mr. Opinionated." :) And to be honest, I usually find faults in such product reviews. Not in this case, however. You covered the Groove (e-Ped?) very well. Most importantly, you didn't start out with some long-winded ramblings about you and yours but went straight into the review and never lost my attention. You are exceptionally good at it and thus I encourage you to keep up the good work. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this review. I sincerely appreciate it.

Hmm, well this one's ~$1,300 and seems like a solid electric scooter to me because you can easily get a replacement battery and parts. Some of the other cheap one's I've seen performed similarly but the support and availability of parts didn't seem so great. Here are some other e-scooters I've reviewed recently: electricridereview.com/tag/scooter/

By the way, the hook on this bike just in front of the driver is for holding the reusable grocery bags. This feature is on every scooter I've seen. The one on my SYM HD200 is stout enough to hold 2 grocery bags. The one on my Kymco People 150 isn't near as stout, but will hold one grocery bag. A big feature of traditional scooters is lots of under seat storage. You give that up on this bike as the battery takes up about all of the room. Thanks for this video. I kind of like this bike, but the lead acid (and out dated) battery kind of ruins the moment.

Yes, but, in most states it's no longer classed as a moped if it goes faster than this one. Then you get to pay for licensing, tags, insurance, etc, etc. Keep it stock with slower speeds and you don't need any of that stuff. I Hawaii, there are almost no "mopeds" left. The Honda Ruckus 49cc is considered a motorcycle because it's too fast (believe it or not, and I've owned three).
