I think it’s just them going too far in the opposite direction. MJ was really not close to the defender Pippen was, MJ was just a lot more likely to take risks defensively, meaning jumping passing lanes and swiping at the ball handler more often. He was certainly way above average on D but not as good as his legend has made it out to be.

Not true. There’s a lot of guys in the league that can lock you up when they’re giving 100%, but when they’re tasked with other responsibilities on the court it’s unrealistic to expect a guy to lock up a team’s best player while trying to score, grab boards, or make plays. This is why guys like Jarrod Vanderbilt exist. No offensive game, but defensively he can take superstars completely out of the game when he’s trying. I saw him and Cam Reddish do it to guys like Booker, KD, Steph, Halliburton, etc.

Agreed, matchups make or break 1v1 defense. Both MJ and Scottie were elite but were best against different players. For Grant Hill, though, it was more on speed. Both MJ and Scottie get blown by, but it is Jordan who is quick enough to recover and prevent Grant from easy layups. Jordan can contest Grant's shots due to size but Grant isn't comfortable scoring in traffic, so a contest or making him score 8ft away was enough to slow him down
@shamwaw336
@shamwaw336 7 ай бұрын
@justinroussel3784 that is not true, much of the adjustment was Magic showing he can score on Scottie which the Bulls wanted. Scottie's defense on Magic wasn't to lock him down but to stop bulls players from sagging off. MJ does good defense but he is too small and makes it easy for Magic to get a good look in the paint which cause other bulls players to help and lead to an open shot for others. The game plan is to prevent magic's best offense, aka his passing
@justinroussel3784
@justinroussel3784 7 ай бұрын
@@shamwaw336 actually what happened was switching to Pippen on magic caused matchup problems. The only person Paxson could guard was Byron Scott, when Pip moved to Magic that meant Horace had to guard Worthy and Cartwright guarded Sam Perkins, they put MJ on Divac but he was 7 feet tall and they just played 2 man basketball with Magic and Divac and were scoring too easy. From the 2nd half of Game 3 on MJ guarded Magic most of the time. Games are on KZbin to watch

Michael Jordan Outscored 982 of the 983 Opponents He Played Against . The only player who outscored Jordan was Allen Iverson. In Michael Jordans 37 playoff series, he faced 269 different players. He outscored 268 of them. The only player to ever outscore MJ in a series was Terry Cummings, who did it by a single point in MJ's rookie year by avging 29.5ppg

I don’t know why this is even a question… he won Dpoy and was 9 all defensive team. Not to mention look at what he did to win his last championship, he stole the ball from Karl Malone and hit the game winning shot to win his 6th title…. Like cmon y’all better stop playing

As a Jordan guy this why I say mj fans are worse than lebron fans and laugh at Jordan fans throwing insults on lebron fans. Jordan was a good defender he wasn’t great. Everything Gil said about Jordan was how a.i. played defense and no one says a.i. was an elite defender. Sheed is speaking facts when Jordan tried guarding the legends of then he got torched. Yes elite players gonna score regardless but that’s when shooting percentage matters.

"As a Jordan guy" You're a LeBron stan. "laugh at Jordan fans throwing insults on lebron fans." You would laugh at those insults on the comment thread of a video featuring LeBron. But it doesn't happen, so you come here to make stuff up. "Jordan was a good defender he wasn’t great." You say these things without arguments, and that's is why everyone hates you LeBron stans. "Everything Gil said about Jordan was how a.i. played defense and no one says a.i. was an elite defender." How many times are you reaching there, in one go. Three? Four? "Sheed is speaking facts when Jordan tried guarding the legends of then he got torched. Yes elite players gonna score regardless but that’s when shooting percentage matters." Jordan did get torched. Those occasions are few and far between. You have no idea when they happened, so don't talk on the subject.

I’m the BIGGEST Bron fan… but come on mane, shit like this is what make me not take people opinions serious… Better defender than Bron I KNOW but Bron is more versatile, people trying to down 1 player for the other is BULLSHIT

It's interesting to see people trying to find holes in MJ's game. It's a fools errand even if there is merit. That dude is god to most.

It’s crazy to listen to non-defenders talk about who’s good or great at defending. Nan one of them dudes on the coach was a good defender 🗑️

MJ was not a great on ball defender. That’s why he always had trouble with athletic guards. Pip defended the athletes which freed up Mike to get backside steals and blocks.
