Well i honestly think it’s a using cheap sentiment for marketing. Using fashionable gender attitudes in commercials always ages badly. On the commerical itself it is not inspiring, rather condescending. the brand behaves like a kindergarten teacher and taps men on the fingers for unrelated behaviors. Egard watches had a better spin on it by highlighting what they admire in men not like Gilette who puts them down.

Second, I like this channel, because he does seem to want men to become better. Lastly, I believe I do not have to go into everything in this video, like his comments on sexism, or boys will be boys, but again, this channel is good, so I will not boycott him or such. Yet. Anyway, I thank him for making his other videos, for they really have, and will make me more of a gentleman.

The army and police in Israel is full of tough ladies. I think you've forgotten the context of the advertisement. Without this context you gain only certain level of understanding as to what is happening. This advertisement feels like a stern telling off for something that most men just don't engage in. It's been happening more and more in society and it's exemplified by the behaviour exhibited in the video. For example, bullying isn't an activity that's perpetrated by boys any more than girls, in fact you'll find that most verbal and online bullying is done by girls. Additionally, fighting can be good for young boys because it teaches them their physical strength and how that affects others, so that when they do become strong enough to actually hurt someone, they don't. The office scene is quite unsubstantiated too, you could make a case that speaking down to someone like that is about power hierarchies in business and not about gender. It's all of these aspects that make a mountain out of a mole hill. Of course these issues exist and of course they're not correct behaviour but the people who exhibit these behaviours know they're wrong and most are not exclusive or even mostly done by men. We seem to differ on the idea of equality too. Regarding Fortune 500 companies, it's not about whether there should be a certain proportion of men and women. It's about having the equal opportunity to be in that position. Equal opportunity and equal outcome are very different ideas. Given that there's equal opportunity for both men and women to be in those roles, there is no issue with a higher proportion of a certain gender in a certain role. If you strive for equal outcome, you no longer have meritocracy. A Gillette advertisement should show men in a positive light, not a negative one. A watch company called Egard made a good version of this advertisement. I think people will do well to view this version as a reference for what being a man and masculinity is actually about.

Most if not all professions in German have both a masculine and feminine form of the noun. In fact, it's trivial to form a feminine version of a profession name and it never sounds wrong or weird. It's the same with Latin. The whole 'men earn more' argument often ignores that men also often put in more work and longer hours (going into overtime more often for example). There were multiple female coworkers at my job who were just cruising from one time-off to the next. There was one that worked about a quarter worth of actual hours put in over about 5 years, constantly switching between L4 (medical leave, where you still earn 80%), vacation (where you also earn 80%), and maternity leave. Of course there were many who put in solid work too. I just want to give you perspective.

Also bullies are not cool but it teaches a boy (who has a strong father) to deal with life and those who will want to beat him down. It teaches him to solve problems on his own. Maybe the question you should ask about 500 clubs is. Why would any human want to work the insane hours, and be so cut throat to get there. Just maybe its more important that women raise babies? Maybe most women get more meaning in creating life, something men could never do.
@the_absurd_hero5 жыл бұрын
Uh. That’s pretty sexist. Women can take as much pleasure from productive work as men do. Women also choose not to have children or, as you so woefully put it, “creat[e] life.” Why should any one person determine what another individual-be it man or woman-can or can’t do?
@itznoxy71935 жыл бұрын
Re your experience with the kid who would "flip out" and you trying to flip him out intentionally: If you listen to psychologists such as Jordan Peterson he talks specifically about how males tease each other as a way of testing their character and how what you are really inquiring about is how the individual deals with pressure. He says the best way to handle it is take the tease with a smile and maybe offer a similar good faith tease back and to not totally flip out. If the individual was flipping out ie not responding correctly it was only natural for you as young males to continue teasing and even ramping up the teasing until he either took the hint and offered the right response the group was looking for or permanently expelled himself from the group. In modern days this can be seen as bullying but what it really is is young males testing out their peer group and not all boys are going to pass these social tests. That's why it is so important for parents to teach their boys the right way to handle teasing graciously and to realize its not such a big deal. If boys don't learn this as children this kind of behaviour can easily extended into adult hood such as Peterson's story about men teasing their co worker at a railroad construction job until the guy quit because he could never respond correctly to the social cues about how to handle the teasing and it just got worse and worse from good faith teasing initially to seriously mean "bullying" by the end of it. TL:DR You did nothing wrong.

Meh, falling for their fairy tale as a stepping stone to bring up gentlemanlike behavior and completely putting it on men. Most gentlemanlike behavior is sexism, just beneficial to women so they don't complain. Appreciate your take, certainly better than the agitprop used to manufacture outrage.

Excellent video we all need to daily reflect on our individual behavior and conduct simply think how we want to be treated by others...in today's society not everyone will respect us dignify us as fellow human beings nevertheless this does not automatically make it ok to return crude of unwanted or rude behavior in like manner to others instead search out ways to improve your personal qualities as a gentleman for example assisting others when they may need help opening a door because their arms are full carrying groceries a warm friendly handshake when required kind polite comment in respectful words removing your hat when seated at the dinner table giving up your seat at a crowded venue to women children and the elderly these are all easy simple ways to improve our own personal way of being a better gentleman I wanted to end by quoting the words of the famous poet Maya Angelou " do the best you can and when you know better then do better".

I feel like this video was well put together and addressed all of the important points that were relevant. As men, and as human beings, I feel we should be doing our best: to improve ourselves and continue to grow as people, to help others when we can, and to do our part in making the world a better place. Nobody is perfect, and there are clearly flaws in our society that may not be our individual faults, but there are little things we can do every day to help improve the world that we live in. We have the power to make good things happen and to help people, and I believe that this is what a true gentleman strives to do (one's best). I look forward to seeing more content from this channel.

Man and woman were created to be complementary to each other. We are of equal value and level of capabilities but in different aspects. Men are more athletic than women. It's not hateful, just biology. Women are more nurturing than men, also not hateful, just biology. We are both amazing at what we are generally made for and some excel outside of those norms. Men and women are different and that is something to embrace, not try to destroy.

"If you see that a woman is maybe harassed or treated in a way that makes her uncomfortable, speak up and give her the feeling of comfort and I think that's something where, we as men, can just reevaluate our behavior and think what we're doing is truly respecting others, including women. " - I don't see it in the video.

The shortened transcript in the video description will sometimes differ from the final cut of the video to some degree; there are also sections of the video that aren't directly reflected in the transcript. Of course, we stand by everything featured in both locations, and certainly support the sentiment of standing up for anyone if they're being treated poorly. Regardless, thanks for taking the extra time to read the description; we appreciate it! - Preston

I don't think Gentlemen should waste their time with buying into Gillette branding. I bought a safety razor last year, and use a few different blades with it - I have 100 Astra Platinum blades ($0.07 for a blade for a week - super smooth and sharp), plus some that came with razors I picked up cheaply with Aliexpress. The best of the bunch was a 'Mercur Future' clone, and you can get them for $10 but they look more like $50 - gorgeous satin finish quality metal pieces. The best? Mingshi 2000s razor and Astra blades for me give an amazing shave - using Arko soap and a synthetic brush. I can't imagine someone thinking themselves a Gentleman having a quality of life would stay with Gillette and bother to worry about their advertising (obviously being aware that you're spending more money advertising than they are on purchasing the product).

If a man gets a double edge razor he can save thousands of dollars over the course of his lifetime without giving those hucksters another penny and never regret it for a moment. Sure you will get a few nicks using the double edge the first 20 or so times you shave. I shave with them in the shower without a mirror now and use dull blades all the time. I never get a nick.

I think my biggest point of contention is that they show the worst in men, and ask us to be better. Most men are not the way it was depicted, so they felt like they were being grouped in with the worst men. Why not show the best in men and challenge the average man to reach above. Show a soldier risking his life to save a child in a firefight. Show a firefighter running into a burning building to save a family pet. Show the best of men, the police officers, the EMTs, the doctors, and the teachers. Then challenge the average man to strive to be as good or better than them. As they've depicted it, the average man is left wondering, "Do they think I'm that bad? If they do, then I'm not going to support them." I agree, their razors are garbage, and WAY over priced. But, since I've retired I'm working on a beard. Because for me, part of being the best I can be is allowing my daughter, who is in cosmetology school, to practice cutting/dying facial hair for that section of her studies. Plus my niece wants to braid it. lol. Anyways, great video. Love your channel. I did like this Gentleman's review. Provided the topic seems naturally part of the Gentleman's community like this one did, I'd love to see more videos like this. Just don't start artificially dragging in fringe subjects in and trying to force them using logical leaps to justify it.
