At 15:34 Sven brings up a good point when he says, "Why do you think that Hollywood is dressed so poorly when, in fact, they have the money to do otherwise, especially with people like you?". Ashley explains that she likes to play with patterns and colors on dinner jackets and that stylists, like her, look at EVERY little detail on an outfit. If that's the case, then why are so many men on the red carpet wearing poorly fitted suits with unflattering accessories. I can understand if it was one or two gentlemen, but the vast majority of men on the red carpet are wearing an improperly tailored suit with sleeves and trousers that are too long and have skipped wearing a waist covering like a cummerbund. It appears that if you want to stand out on the red carpet, all you need to do is wear a black properly fitted tuxedo and waist covering and that would be enough.

@mxt mxt: Agreed, some stylists are only good in certain areas. Red carpet is when it's time to shine though. If you are not good at formal menswear, then perhaps you should either do some research or ask for an outside opinion.

I loved this video. I also love Asleys video's and am a subscriber. While she is an amazing stylist I don't agree that wives, girlfriends and female friends are the best to style a man. I have tried taking 3 female friends along with me shopping and they never agreed. I feel like a man needs to think for himself and develops his own style, while taking the advice of male and female stylists, not wives and girlfriends. That's just my opinion, however.

Went out the office to meet this guy and.... he was in a well fitting suit. Stood there at 0730 in the morning, across the street, hands in front in a pistol grip fashion. It was like a scene from the Matrix; everything slowed down! Was that the same guy?!!! Was struck dumb. That was 2 years ago. Etched in memory. They each have a different niche in which they excel. He's a historian and teacher of established etiquette, quality, and fabric construction/variation. She seems to know more about helping us look our best in relation to current trends, rather than long standing traditions and how they came to be. For example, she has a video on "blazers" a man should own; in actuality the video was about sport coats, not blazers. Raphael teaches the difference between a blazer and a sport coat, and when it's is appropriate to wear either one, etc. And for all the critics of his physique, this is not a fitness channel. Let's work on improving ourselves rather than sniping at people who freely offer valuable information to us.

Sven has straight tie issues at black tie events for some reason. While I do agree it looks like you're going to a funeral wearing a straight black tie with normal collared shirt, exchange that shirt with a winged-collar shirt and it's formal wear suitable for black tie. I mean it's ridiculous really since Top Hats, jackets with tails and white gloves were all considered black tie essentials for men until they were replaced by the tuxedo.

Michael Herman like Milford cubicle said. Men aren't very good at dressing themselves. We mostly put on whatever we find comfortable not what's aesthetically pleasing. Hence why you always see men wearing dirty and torn clothes all the time instead of looking clean and well put together.
@Trotsky19817 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I get that. But the best menswear resources are male. I can't think of a single book about menswear written by a woman. And in my personal experience, female sales personnel in stores always seem to recommend tight trousers and short jackets. This might just be because the rules of proportion and fit are different for women and men, but the end result is that they tend to give crappy advice.
@Trotsky19817 жыл бұрын
+Ashley Weston Settle down. Your advice here seems to be generally on point, but in my personal experience I have never received any good fit advice from a woman. And while I don't particularly care about celebrities, and don't think that's particularly relevant to this discussion, I will nevertheless indulge you: There are very few celebrities who who dress well; asides perhaps Idris Elba and maybe a few others. For the most part its a sartorial wasteland out there. The best menswear advice I've received is either from books written by menswear experts (Flusser, Roetzel, Boyer) or places like Styleforum or Ask Andy About Clothes. Gentleman's Gazette is pretty good too.

Normally I enjoy many of the interviews done by you and gain a lot of insightful information and even now I appreciate the fact of getting a women's perspective on men's clothing and fashion however I find Ms. Weston thoughts and opinions generic it's like getting advice on how to dress from your mother, wife or girlfriend true it may look nice to them however is it really a good look for you personally....granted I know she proclaims herself as a Hollywood celebrity fashion consultant and probably get's reward well for her efforts but that just goes to show the lack of confidence these men have when it comes to putting together even a simple outfit first thumbs down I have ever given thanks for the video!
