Why The NBA Loves To LIE About Their Best Players as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew discuss how character issues are often overblown when it comes to the NBA Draft and explain how NBA Teams lie about their players to create narratives, like the Minnesota Timberwolves did to Jimmy Butler.
Gil’s Arena premieres every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 11:30am PT / 2:30pm ET.

If you're an athlete at 19, you cannot act like ALL 19 year olds. That's absurd. Almost all modern professional athletes (track and field, basketball, soccer, tennis) already have a development plan at 15/16. If you're doing all that extra shiit at 19, you have no future in professional sports.

It's the same way in the workplace. All the lazies & kiss asses all team up with the supervisors to gang up on the Chosen One. Every chance they get, they try to make it look like you're the problem. Leave, & don't look back. After a week, they all end up turning on each other & everything burns down anyways. Meanwhile, you're still Great without the headache. 9-5s are not for Chosen 1s.

These cats are killing me. They don’t live in real life. All of this is about judging character. When you are putting GUARANTEED millions into someone you want to know everything. If you give a kid millions with no structure and they got in trouble without millions and structure, what do you think is likely to happen???Coaches have to tell the truth about players otherwise they screw up their credibility and their ability to vouch for any future player. I’m not saying you need to trash a player but you have to tell the truth.

It's all about that money. Ninety eight percent of the world are going to do what generates the most income for them. The NBA is a business. They are not worried about anything other than one being negative and cutting into their money. The NFL showed the world that example with Colin Kaepernick. Could Kaepernick compete as a top 20 QB? Of course. What about a solidifying second string QB? Of course. But Kaepernick was hitting at the heart of injustice and being real, and that was not setting well with NFL brass because ultimately, that could cut into their money. The man was done wrong because of money. And money is the name of the game. Honesty, character, good person don't add up the dollars for the greedy.

They're looking at the business of it from the wrong perspective. Coaches are like your supervisor at any other job. If you're constantly giving your supervisor shit and dawging the other workers, you're not going to be getting any glowing reviews when they talk to the manager about you and other companys come calling for a reference. EVERY business is political like this. Also like any other job there is a criminal background check. If you're a thief you're not getting hired. Plain and simple.

Gil might not be the right messenger for this lol. He was dropped in the draft for having character issues being immature etc. Then when he got hurt, what he do? Immature, character issues 😂. Like they SHOULD look into what kind of people you are if they’re investing millions of dollars into you.

This is iffy. If I’m owner of a company I want to know all about you. If you’re a problem I want to know that. Cause when you more money you become more of that. AB is an example. When he got paid that’s when he started to become a problem. Can’t tell someone anything once you give them money. Do ppl get mislabeled 100% that’s life. But the ppl talking bout this have a history of this label so kind of bias lol.

Gil point is nuance, sound & focused He just saying teams like to stream line everything. Once player gets label with “character flaw”. Some teams won’t go beyond the scarlet letter & just write the prospect off.

Looks like RC hasn't leaened anything. Somehow al the coaches and scout mysteriously think he has a bad attitude and is hard to coach....has nothing to do with his behavior and personality. Dude remaking what happened to his favor. We see his attitude on this show super abrasive and rubs people the wrong way and never changed. Good for him...stand on that. Dont blame everyone else. You self sabotaged your own career. What a narcissist

This comment can be put into the loony bin. But being social media, I will charge right in and state it. The behind-the-scenes that these gentlemen are talking about is revealing perhaps the very hidden hand nature of what teams do to include players in their league. It’s likely not about talent is about if your name is up to something that those who have the power can use or not use. If you don’t add up, you can’t get inside of the society. If you add up, you’re invited in. This isn’t about basketball ability. It’s about gatekeeping. I wonder if there is some quantifiable method that can be applied to the stories of every NBA player who makes it versus those who don’t to figure out how the bias is are enforced throughout the behaviors of basketball organizations. The forms of many things that are obvious like relationships to things that are, in fact, mystical like birthdates, numerology, and Gematria of the organization, player, and coach. As much as I roll my eyes as some of the opinions across episodes, this conversation into the politics of professional basketball of the national basketball association is something that is hard to be a fan of. because this show doesn’t have the broadcast reach of the NBA partners, it won’t be discussed

The players won’t say anything because they don’t want to be a snitch. It doesn’t mean players like you or they don’t tell the coach shit you do. It’s just not that simple. And it’s not always legit labels. It’s complex. Keep your head low and be nice to folks. Don’t let people get you out of character. Safest way to the bag.
@aneedkassim9727
@aneedkassim9727 3 ай бұрын
its complicated cuz they pick and choose. Jordan Kobe were great but were assholes and bad teammates at times. cats like Rasheed Wallace and Boogie Cousins were also great players but their behavior was amplified and they weren't gonna get that same grace. tony parker was a horrible teammate sleeping with players wives they hide stuff depending on who they like

Gil doesn't understand that he can do things that normal people can't do ,pro athletes are freaks! Most people have 9 to 5 jobs, even the coaches and they make less money on average, so the only advantage they have over a millionaire celebrity athlete is POWER ! They must have power over these young black men, so if Gil said he's not going to do a stress test the coaches and organisation feel they losing power at jump! Play the game until you get the money and contract, now you can tell the organisation I'm not doing that ish🤗

The treadmill test isn't exactly done to check your physical shape. It's to see how you function internally. It's for your circulation and that sort of thing. You can always "push yourself to the limit" because your body can take it, but you don't know how your heart is handling it. There are people in tip top shape who later find out that they have problems with their heart after doing the stress test. Be it a partial block or something else, that's the test they conduct to determine that. They do it for jobs that take a toll on you physically.

These guys missed the mark at least 2-3 of the guys on the couch were bad teammates whether they knew it or not. And they do not understand that a coach, just like a supervisor in the workplace, can observe how the player impacts the other players, the team, the culture, the morale, etc. To say it shouldn’t come from a coach is a stupid take.

This conversation right here shows you why there are OWNERS, and there are PLAYERS, just the same as EMPLOYERS and EMPLOYEES..These players are really showing their lack of intelligence and very limited mindset. It’s a big check for sure, but someone is endorsing that check at the end of the day.

LOL, look at your presidents. Your comment shows you only agree with the mindset of racist America. The MAJORITY decides what is right and what is wrong. Name another multi-billion dollar industry where the employees get fined millions for saying something bad about a consultant (referee), or an entire paycheck for a touching someone (foul in a game). There is nothing fair about the treatment of the employees (players) of the NBA vs the return the owners receive from the production of the players.

Gil back to his Gil logic. Stealing crab legs isn't about someone who once they get millions is going to stop being the kind of person who steals crab legs. If he says the atmosphere should be what molds the 19 yr old into being what's needed to be a successful team, how does he think that atmosphere got to be that way?

All that shii has nothing to do with playing basketball. If that’s the case this needs to be interpreted in all jobs in america when you graduate college and go for a job they need to be able to talk to yo high school teachers and college professors too before you get a job. There is no nba without the players.
