I was 15 years old when this song hit the radio airwaves in 1966.. we loved it . Our Church Minister was not happy about this song at the time and gave us teenagers a stern sermon about listening to the 'devils music' while parents nodded in agreement .

I was at their Sheffield Uni Students Union gig in 1966 (or '67) and was entranced by Stevie Winwood's powerful vocals, his mesmerising organ riffs and his totally focussed presence at the keyboard. I was completely wowed - and simultaneously in love with my boyfriend who I was with, on a trip over there from Keele Uni where we were both students! Have only just learned that Spencer Davis is no more! Very sad. But so grateful that Steve W is still going strong. Hearing his recent gentle solo rendering of John Barleycorn was a delight.
