Same Summer of '93 I was on my sailboat doing maintenance at the dock when their first hit "Found Out About You" came on the radio playing in the background. I hadn't really listened to anything played that day, until "the" song came on. Electrifying, it seemed the song was written specifically for whoever listened to it! I compared the experience with the first time I heard the Beatles in 1964; it was like a magic no words are available to explain (yep, I'm that old --- so will you be in time).

This is one of the rare songs where the lyrics are extensively deep in relation to the original sound. A few years back A-Ha stripped down 'take on me' to truly give the song a whole new meaning. The Gin Blossoms could do it with this one. A true testament to the emotional connection the late, great Doug Hopkins had to the songs lyrics vs the musical sound of GB. You can definitely understand that he lived these lyrics. It's too bad he wasn't able to see the final culmination of the Gin Blossoms longterm success, then again he might have not wanted to with the major label signing. As much as I love the all around talent of the Gin Blossoms the dropoff in terms of songwriting depth after NME was and is still evident to this day.

@@ET-df2xz I like the way you viewed it houpkins really lived these lyrics the story behind this song is not something imaginary but it's about his life's. This song success must have been terrible for houpkin because it was too personal

I told my boyfriend that I had to work that night and I told my boss I was going to visit my parents. I bought a ticket to see Gin Blossoms and went to the show by myself. Collective Soul was the opener. It was a wonderful experience! I would highly recommend anyone to give it a try. Especially in a town that you know not a single soul knows you. I was born Into the world in 80.. I love the 80s because it was the sound of my young growing up days, and I love all the 80s especially the rock, and metal, yet having my teen years in the 90s I didn't realize how great this stuff really was. Tho I loved it none the less. Now it has a huge nostalgic value to me. My first love, drink, cig, dip, bud, road trip, bon fires etc, etc, etc as Yule Brenner said in the king and I (All the darn Time) Lollllll.. Growing up in A Village in Northern Michigan we had about 16 designated Named party spots out around the river's, lake's, and the best Two Tracks in the upper Midwest 😮.. Tears can creep up when I hear these song's. We used to talk about how great the 80s were, but now we also rate out 90s experience with a little more enthusiastic heart felt love.. I had real friend's back then. Now I'm in Colorado, and long to go back, and live the rest of this pilgrimage out back where it all Started. A little less reckless of course. I miss you FIFE LAKE , MICHIGAN. Our little Village also had a gnarly AZZ Arcade😢.. Lol Enjoy it while you can if it's good!
