Surely, The Wildhearts are a definite contender for the most underrated band in the history of Rock n' Roll? In the mid 90s, the "Earth Vs..." and PHUQ albums had enough stunners on there to easily appeal to fans of anyone from Nirvana, Therapy? Metallica, Green Day, Oasis or any other great band on the popular spectrum at the time. Be it Kerrang, Metal Hammer, Reading, Donington , they fought and fit in anywhere, loaded with enough rock and roll chaos on and off stage to be up there with the best of 'em. They really should have been arena headliners all the way, but I love the fact that in the here and now, their longevity and activity is still steamrollin' them on thru'. New album is an absolute righteous ruckus that fantastically sounds like Motorhead and Ramones in a row together. Ginger is a legend, and this was a superb interview. Thanks for this.

Loved that. Been a massive fan of ginger since the early 90s. The man has written so many great riffs and hooks.

Ginger is a legend. I really wish more were like him out there. He doesn't realise that the majority of people wouldn't give away their favourite guitar for charity.

Excellent interview, ginger is awesome. Nice to hear an interview that’s a bit different and not just asking the same old questions other interviewers usually do.

Ah thank you Steven and can't believe the last gig you went to was a Wildhearts one.. not a bad way to finish gig life with for a while.

Very good interview, thank you for posting! Like many others have been a fan since the early - mid 90's and seen them loads of times. Never have I seen a bad show from them. It puzzles me how the band & Ginger himself haven't had the commercial success they so thoroughly deserve. Look forward to seeing the other interviews in this series Kylie :-)

I remember seeing the Wildhearts in 1997 and at the aftershow party I met Type O Negative and James Dean Bradfield of Manic Street Preachers!!! Amazing night!

That sounds like a fantastic night!!!

@@KylieOlsson 3CR were there too (Danny's brother, Chris McCormack, though if I'm honest, I wasn't too big into 3 Colours Red!)... But yeah, 21st December 1996, and it was Type O Negative's small Xmas shindig at the Astoria in the Keith Moon Bar, same night as The Wildhearts' gig! ** It was for Type O- fans and industry types too it seemed. Cos Morat was there, as was Phil Alexander (then Kerrang! editor, then Mojo for ages, now I don't know what. Though I couldn't forgive him for his godawful trash TV show "Pop Down The Pub" - Ugh!!!)... Was nice meeting James Dean Bradfield for sure! Lovely Taffy! XoD I think Ginger was possibly drunk! It DID feel weird hanging out with 4 HUGE, tall, standout guys with LOOOOONG jet black hair, and then mingling with Geordies and Taffies (and Lahndahnas (Londoners!)!!! I got my concert ticket signed at least! I had to do that for sure! I was with some Welsh guys that I'd met at Marilyn Manson's 1st UK gig the week before (12th December 1996 I think?) at Kentish Town Forum, moved from the Astoria unfortunately. Antichrist Superstar at the Astoria would've been BRILLIANT! Anyway, I literally met the Welsh guys in the street at random before the gig! This was before everyone had mobile phones remember? So it was great just bumping into them! Anyway, the Welsh guys were wankered! And we ALL got more wasted and wankered as the the night went on... And being with the 'Tafia' as I called them, definitely greased the wheels when we went to chat to JDB of the Manic Street Preachers. I remember JDB getting one of the guys into playful headlock! But not soon after that, they made a bit of a faux pas, and basically, cos they were drunk, they started joking with JDB, going - "Come on then, James... you can tell us... Where did you put Richey? What have you done with him? Where's he hiding? Come on man, where is he?!?" Well, it was still fairly fresh in the atmosphere that Richey was presumed dead, at the very least, missing... Remember his car was found nearby to a bridge, a well known suicide hot spot. Anyway, as soon as the Taffies mentioned Richey, JDB's face changed! I was like, Oh no! Oh fuck! And he basically made a quick getaway and disappeared, clearly upset... The Welsh dudes were too drunk to notice what had happened! Ooops! Still, I had a GREAT night regardless! LoL! Man, 25 FUCKING YEARS AGO!!! How mad is that?! 21st December 1996... And I still remember it well...
