Great vid. Phil is one of those people who will never get old. Sure we all age, but he has a young heart and takes care of himself. He's one of those guitarists who makes playing look easy.

he really does make it all look so easy and you are right about the aging, he is super chilled and easy going and that keeps him young... plus he looks after himself - can't believe he is in his 60s!

One of my all-time favorite bands for sure - The great Def Lep!!! And man what a guitarist Phil is. I've always been in awe of him, and he just seems like the nicest guy in rock. I have no idea - never met him. But that sure is the vibe he puts out. Genuine, real, and pretty down to earth! And Kylie.... I just lvoe Kylie! Always fun to watch her do her thing, and everybody seems to like her! Fun vid!!! As usual.

Phil is the best! I have a PC1 - Claro Walnut it’s the one Phil played on KZbin when it first came out. I love the guitar and also love the fact that Phil is so involved with the development of the PC-1. He may be a Rock legend but his passion for guitars is amazing.

Swamp ash is used in every gibson or fender high end guitar. Most high end guitars use swamp ash because it resonates so well.

Thank you Chris.... and no worries you haven't heard of me... I've been presenting download festival in the UK for SKY Arts for the last 12 years but I mainly do in-depth interviews with rock musicians and during lockdown I decided to learn how to play the guitar so created this series where I meet up with guitarists to learn more about this amazing instrument... Really happy you liked the video. kylie x

I actually like wood grained guitars and I've never owned a Jackson. I primarily play Ibanez but, I've had one Les Paul, and one Dean and it was a cheap guitar but, for some reason, it sounded killer through my Marshall. I have neck issues so I sold my Les Paul and have actually been wanting a Jackson. Almost bought one about a year ago but, now seeing this, I'm so glad I waited. I'll check to see when it comes out and give it a go. Thanks Kylie for the Vid and Phil for being the inspiration behind what looks to be a killer axe. Peace!!

Ok. Let me say this here. There should be two tiers of the new PC1. One tier which is higher priced with the premium features and specs and another that has lower priced features and specs that some users can actually afford. The PC1 models that I played are rediclulously priced. A lower priced PC1 will put this in the hands of more players. And swamp ash is not really considered an exotic and hard to source wood. Any roasting of wood should not be a premium feature of a wood used in guitar building. It should be considered a necessary step for any wood that contains natural resins or oils so that the wood structure is stabilized as the guitar construction begins.

I could tell right now I’d hate that chunky neck. Omg that thing looks like a they just cut t tree in half and stuck frets on it. I’d probably love it if the neck was thinner.

The term "loyalty" gets thrown around so much - but although personally I just have NEVER gotten into Phil's 'shredding' -although Joe Satrinari 'loves' Collen's guitar style, I don't, he was arguably the perfect fit for the 'real' lyrical + musical genius of Leppard, Steven Maynard 'The Riffmaster' Clark. Steve + Phil had 'real' trust and played perfectly off each other. As Vivian verbatim has said many times "90% of what we play Steve left us". Pete Willis to me was an excellent guitarist and we'll never know what 'might have been'. Pete himself has said in interviews he felt had he remained in the band he would have gone 'over the edge'. Collen, who as the brilliant BBC tele-movie factually pretty much nails [unlike Motley Crue's "The Dirt" which is full of fact free BS and lies] - The BBC did an amazing job documenting the formation and structure of Leppard up until the final time Steve went into rehab - and then the movie just ended, with sub titles stating the following history + years of all band members. With respect to 'loyalty' - although Steve used Feder Strats + Teles in the studio, used an extremely rare Les Paul XR-1 [to this day I have never seen any other guitarist use this rare model] - as two models were released limited run - the XR-1 + XR11. Steve also used early on a cut away Hamer - but he signed to Gibson around the same time Phil took the opportunity to sign with a then luthier, but 'budding' guitar maker Grover Jackson. The best DL by far - with the exception of the raw, heavy France + German 1983 gigs promoting "Pyromania" - was the sold out Denver Colorado gig, via the "In The Round In Your Face Tour 88/89". Steve just dazzled - he uses what to me is by far 'the best' and most beautiful Les Paul Custom, creme coloured, triple humbuckers with a Kahler Tremolo guitar I'll ever see. Steve had an entire rig from Gibson for this tour - he still had his red 'Dean' from "Me and My Wine" video - and his black Fender Strat. He retained his early Gibsons, criminally many/we don't know the actual number - were sold, pawned off by Janie Dean, his smacked junkie fiancee when Steve passed. Lorelei has Steve's creme Custom, and one of his 'black beauties' - his brother has one of Steve's 'black beauties' also - and Phil/Joe also have some of Steve's guitars. For context - Phil signed with Grover and Steve signed with Gibson at the same time. Phil has been offered heaps of money to 'endorse' other guitar brands - but has remained 'loyal'. A wonderful story.

so much to think about its amazing... Im a beginner player but love how all these tiny little factors can make such a difference... thats why players never get bored of the guitar as its a constant quest for exploration.

One of the most unplayable guitars made. Bigger is rarely better. Phil has this thing with that. Huge neck, huge strings....why?
@StevenAMckayAuthor
@StevenAMckayAuthor 7 ай бұрын
I had a PC1 for years, the neck was fine. It was a superb guitar, played great, sounded great, stayed in tune no matter what you did with the Floyd. I only sold it because the sustainer was starting to go and I didn't want to be stuck with it.

I totally agree... he said to me he loves the bigger necks as they feel nicer for him to play, like something to really hold onto. Same with the strings, he said he likes how it makes him work harder if they are biger and its all more tangible.

@KylieOlsson I usually like slinkier strings but I bought a cheap Telecaster last year that had high action and huge strings. It was so much fun to play, it really felt like you had to work hard with it. But I set it up like all my other guitars and now it's no fun! I'm going to raise the action and put the thick strings on again 😄

As a very very amateur luthier Ive basically narrowed it down to whether or not your technique requires much webbing/palm support. The most extreme example being the anchored "in the box" style playing of pentatonic blues licks where the big neck becomes a point of leverage,...Ive also noticed that is a very difficult journey for these players to re-adapt to thinner necks once they have solidified their technique around larger necks, even with thumb over the top chording. *So these tend to be the bulk of comments left on gear pages about "thinner necks straining hands". ...Having said all that tho:) Phil is a different animal all together, no shortage of dexterity and fluid movement, and im pretty sure he would still feel relatively comfortable without his fat neck safety blanket.
