This series, when it gets serious, fully embodies the whole "No powers, just straight hands" meme. They can't learn any flashy moves from the Lake Toya saint because we can't afford it? Using broken pieces of your sword as a viable weapon is just fine

@@norbertjanssen814 the first 50 episodes kinda just introduce the characters. after that the first real serious arc starts. it took me a while too to get the past the first 50, but once the serious arc started i couldnt stop watching.

@@norbertjanssen814difficult to say as the episodes pivot very quickly in on temselves and can be very serious unexpectedly but Benizakura Arc is potentialy the first and Shinsengumi Crisis Arc stood out to me as pivotal shifts

Me the first 200ish episodes: "Haha Gintoki calls her old hag and struggles to pay rent on time." Me watching this episode: "Oh wait she took him in when he was a purposeless and lonely war veteran? Oh snap he really cared deeply about her!" For me, that's why this scene is unforgettable.

Otose means more to Gintoki than it seems. She found him in the cemetery at his most darkest time and gave him a reason to live, but he never expected to found her in a similar way to him. That's how you make a good shonen fight. 🚬🗿

This is how you not only make a fight scene; you make conflict spiral between protagonist and antagonist and in this case, the similarities between gintoki and jirocho's pain further display their glaring differences on the future of what they've protected and/or what they've sworn to protect. This arc is one of the best arcs in the series and sucks people usually don't make it this far in the show. Thank you for showing yet another memorable part of anime history.

BABA!!!! Goat Gin-san came to Crunchyroll? Gosh, i miss Gintama so bad, i just came back to be a depressive teenager binging a new show with a Duck like alien cosplayers, rude main heroes and ninjas with hemorrhoids. Finally i don't have to watch the whole episode so i can see that again, besides the buildup for this scene being just amazing. The emotion, fights and ending of the four devas arc is something i can't describe the greatness but appreciate the effort of the old studio before they changed it for the last arcs of Gintama that looked overwhelmed by the often different and unique style of every serious arc that came before at Sunrise.

Gintama is my favorite anime, never has a series made me laugh and cry as much. Is mainly a comedy Anime and a great one in my opinion, but when it gets serious is like another entire Anime, and they way they tell the story and background of the characters it's very well written
