The gIock Entrenching tool is one of the best I've found factoring in durability,packability,value,ergos,features and cool factor. I left a link down below to find more specs and pricing.

Years after leaving military I did remember this tool and understood I still love and miss it. So now I'm watching this video.

The inner handle tube tights counterclockwise until a line appears and matches with the one on the outside tube, easy, you really don´t need arrows painted in the handle for that. The knob to tighten the saw inside the handle or out for cutting, tightens clockwise, oh, and there's a flat screwdriver on the tip of the handle. I bought mine in 1990 when I bought my Glock 19.

Good discussion, I hope to aquire a Glock E-tool, thank you! I have used the Coughlan folding saw to make an igloo. Scroll down for instructions. Both blades are a similar length. Tooth size and set are not important for snow. The saw is especially helpful when fitting the overhead blocks, hold the block in position and saw off the high points between them for a close fit. When starting the igloo if the snow is loose and powdery stomp out an area with your snowshoes, then do something else for awhile and the disturbed snow will harden up. Cut blocks with a shovel or saw and build the bottom course. Can be a circle or egg shape. IMPORTANT! Now start at the floor level and saw through the blocks at a shallow angle to the floor to make a gently rising ramp. Starting at the low point lay your blocks in a spiral. Each block will butt against the previous block so you will never have a single stand alone starter block. As you approach the overhead you will see that the fitted blocks are held in position. The block ends are not square, they taper to the inside so leaning in tightens the joint. Cut out the door when you need it. With two people the outside person hands blocks to the inside person. Alone you will need to cut the door. At 40°F. below zero a single candle raised the temperature 40°. The snow is like styrofoam, don't add water or ice. As time goes on the snow blocks will absorb moisture and gradually become icy. Time for a new igloo so it stays warm and quiet.

Btw. Snow saws have really big teeth. I dont think the saw would be suitable for that but you could probably cut blocks with the blade

Bummer i wish you would've liked digging in frozen ground, and waited for it to freeze as that would have been a way better torture/endurance test then that cotton candy you were digging in

Id like to this compared to the gerber e tool. Would this be suitable for digging a car out of the mud?
@Greatlakesprepper
@Greatlakesprepper 5 жыл бұрын
I have both and could do a comparision. IMO the glock and gerber are the top 2 e tools ounce for ounce. I have used the Glock etool folded in the 90 position to pull snow away from rear differential of my truck. it worked suprising well,alot easier then getting a full size shovel under the truck.. i would imagine it could work for mud,possibly better then full shovel because you can fold it at 90 degrees and pull the mud away instead of scooping,lifting and dumping.

I've done it with mine. I had to dig 3 shallow holes in frozen gravel with mine once. Was slow going, hacking at the gravel in hoe mode for 15 min is per hole, but it got'er done. Had this tool for nearly a decade and that was probably the hardest task I ever put it through. It is still in excellent condition, no damage to the hinge or lock. I am however in a constant battle with rust now that most of the coating has worn off.

Try to imagine it, I bought mine in 1990 and when you tighten it, it's solid like a rock I even use it to chop small branches. People said the same about the Glock pistol Mod 17 back in the 80s...because it was a "plastic" gun, I "guess" they were wrong.

It may look fragile, but I did use it intesnsivley for 6 years in infantry and it never broke. I gave it back after left the military and I bet some other soldier is still using it.
