This was the best death this old bull can have. Old animals don't die peacefully in the wild, they get torn apart alive by predators or starve to death. Good job Paige for this beautiful shot and congratulations for this amazing harvest.

You'll get arthritis eventually, end up on dialysis or with a machine breathing for you, your organs will slowly fail until you die so someone should probably just come along and pop you in your 60's right? Much kinder that way

A friend of mine hunts in SA, and the locals say that you put a rock in the pot when you cook giraffe meat, and when the rock is soft there's 30 minutes left on the giraffe

It is donated to the locals in need. He is going to schools and old folks homes for food. You’re right, one person couldn’t eat an entire giraffe. The meat harvested on my African hunts is always donated back to feed the locals

710 grs at 215 fps seems a little too slow... Doesn't also speed play a role in penetration other than weight ? Why not an arrow in the 550 grs range or so ? I mean, it is clear that that 710 grs arrow worked great, but, are we sure a lighter and faster arrow wouldn't have been even better, also maintaining a flatter trajectory? Just trying to learn..

“Since my first trip to Africa I dreamt of harvesting a giraffe with my bow, and that dream finally came true! Some of you might ask, why a giraffe? Well for one, it’s a challenge. They are so big and their hide and ribs are so thick, that for a women with my specs it’s no easy task. Arrow build and bow set up are critical, and shot placement must be perfect. Secondly, it’s all part of conservation. When hunters want to harvest a giraffe, it puts a monetary value on that animal and gives game farmers and land owners incentive to maintain healthy populations of that species on their land. Here in South Africa the wildlife is not managed as it is in the US. Instead, each land owner manages his own wildlife and habitat and protects those animals from poachers. So conservation is done on a much smaller and more measurable scale. The money spent on a hunt like this goes to things like habitat protection, anti poaching measures, breading programs, and other conservation projects to ensure the species continues to grow. And we don’t hunt a young bull with lots of breeding potential. Instead, we hunted an old mature bull that has already passed on his genetics to the population. Out of respect for the animal, we decided that I was only going to take a frontal shot as there are no bones to decrease penetration. In the moment of truth, I had a 41 yard shot and sent my arrow straight into his heart! He only made it 50 yards before he fell over, and Danie caught the whole thing on video! This was a stressful, overwhelming, and incredible experience to harvest an animal of this caliber! This giraffe provided 1,545 pounds of meat that was donated to feed countless African families, and every part of the animal will be utilized to the fullest extent! I am so thankful for this opportunity, and it was an amazing experience that I will cherish for a lifetime!“ That should answer your question

While the meat donation is commendable, there are alternative ways to support local communities that don’t involve trophy hunting. The efficacy and destination of the conservation funds generated by hunting may not be as ideal as they seem. In a comment you say that you hunted an old bull, but selecting an older bull does not erase the importance of such a crude way of killing an animal, nor does it erase the impact of this event on the herd. There are other methods of conservation that don’t involve hunting. This is just disgusting.

They use starving kids as a pathetic excuse. When if that was truly there concern they would have used all the money they spent to go on that hunt to buy groceries for the kids and medicines. People like this give hunters a bad wrap

Number one an older giraffe whether it dies of natural causes such as sudden heart failure or attack via predators it's body is very important to the wildlife food cycle it is very important not to trophy hunt them. They are huge and when and many do it dies of natural causes hyenas, wild dogs, lions vultures ect.. need the food! You are just fooling yourself and deep down I think you know trophy hunting is unethical. Killing for sport for a thrill isn't healthy find something more life affirmative to do, no one should be getting joy from killing an animal. Wildlife viewing with cameras is increasingly bringing in sufficient funds for wildlife conservation, as well S. Africa needs to continue to diversify their economy which will provide people with a range of variety of employment and a diversity of economic streams. It is economically false that trophy hunting provides conservation funds, all it does as well as enables third world economies and the politicians involved in those economies to not think out of the box or be innovative and creatively developed very diverses economies which bring in many sources of income.

Cool! I didn't quite understand why the giraffe died after being hit in the neck. Maybe the arrow hit the spine? It would be interesting to see the arrowhead.

@ВладимирПрименко-о5б
@ВладимирПрименко-о5б Жыл бұрын
@@PaigePearceinsight Actually, I saw you aiming somewhere in the neck area and the arrow flew higher, but I didn't see where it hit. I thought-she knows how to shoot and probably wants to get into the neck, so they often shoot at a moose, for example, with a shotgun, to be honest, it's not clear how you can get into the heart from this angle, they usually wait for the beast to turn sideways. A good trophy, I hope the students will eat their fill.)
@PaigePearceinsight
@PaigePearceinsight Жыл бұрын
@@ВладимирПрименко-о5б they have massive ribs, so shooting them from the side at my poundage isn’t really ethical. There’s an open pocket in the chest to put you straight into the heart and the lungs with no bone in the way. Which is why we waited and tried for the perfect shot opportunity. Shooting buffalo frontal is really good for penetration as well. I was definitely aiming at the chest, the arrow was just so slow the ark is crazy high lol

@@fretboy90well you are not a bow hunter if you can’t understand why this animal was harvested. If you actually hunt why did you shoot the animals you took? For food. There will be hundreds of mouths fed with this meat not to mention the conservation involved in these hunts. It’s so idiotic the comments on here. As someone who knows people over in Africa these type of game are not zoo animals for them like they are for people from the states. They are all over the place like deer and other game animals are over here. Try to educate yourself.
