Pretty tragic ending, ngl. If her mother or father had truly loved her, no matter what she looked like, the curse would have been broken back when she was a baby. They spent so much time fussing over the curse, they forgot to consider that it was still their baby girl under that pig snout. Any parent who can't bring themselves to truly love their own baby does not deserve to be a parent at all.

I know that this is a journey of self acceptance from Penelope’s perspective, but I personally think that the mom is the one who needed to be more accepting. She was more worried about her reputation than her own daughter’s confidence and well being. Also those constant directions couldn’t have been good for her self esteem. The guy wanted to marry the girl, he was pressured into marring someone else, that he didn't want to marry, by his family. The witch cursed the _family_ and it makes sense that it would end that way. This way the girl that gets the pig face learns to love herself, apart from what her family tells her and learns that her family is shit. So of course her mother is going to be the problem. Two birds and all that.
