this film is so well made and understanding + they NAILED the whole cast, but irl trans girls can't even walk outside that freely btw if especially they share Lara's similarity in social submissiveness, like in the not being expressive/extroverted outside the house way (rather blends in with the crowd and not stand out as they described her). The bullying part is and will be way severe and disrespectful if Lara was a real person no matter where she's from.

Just watched this movie. It's very good, and they do show some of the difficulties we go through as transgender persons. In the USA it is so much harder for school age transgender kids, then it was in this movie. I can't speak for other countries as I only know my own experience. There's still a ton of bullying and lack of acceptance by other kids because of the parents. As a transwoman, when she took the scissors to herself, I cringed and could hardly watch, and yet, it only scratches the surface of what the dysphoria can cause us to do to ourselves to make the body match our internal view of ourselves. Knowledge is power. Another Netflix special worth the watch is Transformer, about Janae Marie Kroc.

...it's amazing to hear how some transgender activists (the same who support jessica yaniv) viciously criticized the film... if it doesn't fit their fantastic narrative, they're willing to destroy even "their own" (not saying that in any bigoted way) in their delusional zeal... I mean, the girl whose story this is, Nora Monsecour, loves it and loves its accurate portrayal of her own life experience... her internal struggle (as depicted by the lead actor, Victor Polster) was raw and vivid... it tore so many tears out of me, and I was taken so far aback that it made me even more angry at those trans-activists who don't crae about truth nor consequences... they're selfish and imbecilic... this movie is great for those who only focus on the movement rather than the person, who wants to become a girl, not an activist... the negative criticism seems to focus on the physical aspect of it, which kinda shows that they're just angry that "Lara" is beautiful... if you notice, trans-activists are pretty harsh on beautiful transgenders; those who make it through the proverbial tunnel and into the light...

Because she can't stand the thought of a delay in her surgery, Lara attempts to remove her penis with a scissors knowing that the hospital will then be forced to complete the surgery she desires without waiting for her strength to return. She could have bled to death but she had first called for emergency services, left the apartment door open for easy access and numbed her groin with ice. Dangerous and very painful but it shows how important the male genitalia removal was to her.
@rachelel90875 жыл бұрын
@@robhansen6187 Right, I got all of that, but there's NO WAY they'd actually complete the surgery when she did that. Like you said, she wasn't strong enough, by doing that ("self-harm") she just failed any "emotionally ready" test, and also there are ways to fix that without doing a gender reassignment surgery. Plus, I doubt she was able to cut the entire penis off, AND they NEED the skin, nerves, urethra, etc for the gender reassignment surgery. Also I don't think she was wearing a colostomy bag in the final part (which they said she would need to wear one temporarily). I'm all for gender reassignment surgery, but that is NOT a healthy way to go about it and I'd be shocked if any country's health system would approve the procedure as a way of fixing up what she did. Because then anyone who is impatient enough can just attempt that. And that's not the first time I've heard of someone trying to do that. I've heard stories from parents who walked in on their 3 year old trying to cut off her penis with kid's safety scissors because it bothered her so much (luckily they caught her before she did anything).

a lot of people are wondering why this film isn’t being judged for having s cis actor playing a trans person while the scarlett johansson one was and i think it’s exactly because they put a lot of care in the details and had a trans woman, the woman the story is about on hand to make sure it wasn’t offensive while rub n tug was going to be a big hollywood movie that knowing hollywood would likely be careless with trans people’s identity’s and scarlett johansson already had a history of being problematic
