That was odd, but they may just have misunderstood each other. I think she meant starting off somewhat shallow, not going too deep right away, while he took that as being shallow forever. It's the only thing that would make sense to me with that situation.

@@sylverscale Maybe. I saw it as her not being able to handle the rejection, so she jumped to feeling victimized instead of seeing it as him being open about not being on the same page as her. That's the only way it makes sense to me.

I finished this and all I can say is it's just hurtful. Cole is childish, immature, but he's willing to learn. Zanab on the other hand is a vengeful person, a perfectionist, and a queen of gaslight. I knew she doesn't want to marry him with the way she talk to him, she just want to break him on the altar.

I was going to say this, Cole was very immature in the beginning but went through major growth, Zanab almost went the opposite way, well it was more that her pod self was far nicer than her irl self, which I realize as I’m typing this maybe this was all a ploy to stay on the show 😳

Who Zanab really is can be summed up in the kitchen scene. When Cole finally starts to push back and try to express his concerns, she flips the script and starts to say how she really sees herself. Talking about what a great girl she is, and how anyone would be lucky to have her, and his family should love her. Like, what? Are you the same supposably insecure person we’ve been seeing the entire time?! Yes, she’s insecure, but not in any of the ways she’s willing to admit.

I think Zanab started to give me the ick during their outdoor games date when she started insulting Cole for his drink and demeanor. I think she perceives herself as better than Cole so when she started losing or didn’t know how to play a game, instead of asking for help or keeping a positive attitude, she distracted from her failure by pointing out “flaws” about Cole. Like “I know I’m bad but look at yourself, you’re not better than me” when he wasn’t actively trying to make her feel bad. I think she doesn’t like looking incompetent at something, especially next to someone she thinks shouldn’t be better than her at anything. I know! The way she did it, oh boy. First she made him fully believe she was going to say yes, manipulating him in any way she could, just to then completely shatter him. Absolutely awful. And then she spins it as if he was the one destroying her and as she was just trying to be helpful. As if he was such a horrible person. Did he say insensitive stuff? Yes, absolutely. But he's a 26 year old somewhat immature dude and he tried his best to change for her. Some day I hope he'll see that he's better off without her. They absolutely didn't match. She would need a guy that does absolutely nothing else but treat her like the princess she thinks she is. And he would be better if with a sporty girl that likes outdoor activities and doesn't care about which glass your wine is in or how someone flips the chicken breasts. He's got some maturing to do, which he tried, but she needs some soul searching.

As someone who was a very vindictive child, I know exactly what she’s doing. She didn’t want to tell him this so he could improve, and she knew she could have said it sooner. But she *wanted* to make him feel like a fool. She wanted him to be embarrassed. At some point she fell out of love and just was waiting to act on all the hate that had been brewing. It was her way of lashing out. For context, when I say vindictive child, I told the teacher every single thing I saw that was out of line because it made me feel superior, and people getting mad at me made me feel right? As a girl- Zanab is definitely more at fault than Cole. Maybe it’s bc I identify more with Cole- I have issues reading social situations and do accidentally say the wrong thing at the wrong time and seem to have no filter because of it- but everything Cole did seemed to be either genuinely on accident or not out of a place of malice. Everything Zanab did was out of malice and passive aggression it seems. Also I’m editing this to add: Cole is in therapy now. My bio dad was a lot like Zay where it was walking on eggshells, gaslighting, manipulating and lying. It traumatizes you. I apologize frequently. I take the blame a lot of the time. If someone is in a bad mood I assume it’s my fault. I feel so bad for Cole. What Zay did goes deeper than people realize.

This! Some of the things Cole said was very rude and disrespectful but not only did he apologize multiple times for it but it just didn't seem like he was trying to be purposely hurtful. Zanab in my opinion seems to have only noticed for every moment he slips up or even provoke those moments (the kitchen scene) so she could really lay into him. Even finding faults when he was trying to change.

@@indigo3896 I disagree. “no filter” to me, means a tendency to blurt out things without thinking. I always apologize if I say something that affects someone negatively, but like, blurting out something without a filter isn’t the same as just saying hurtful shit and then blaming it on that. That’s the same as those people who say they are “brutally honest” and really just want an excuse to be an asshole. Like an example of what I mean is making a joke at an inappropriate time bc I read the situation wrong and blurted one out bc I was uncomfortable. Or if someone mentions something like ducks and jumping on a tangent about the mating habits of the ducks. Maybe no filter is the wrong wording but that’s what I mean when I say it, not like saying hurtful shit and then blaming it on no filter! But I get what you mean, people honestly suck sometimes and will use any excuse to not apologize.

But it also doesn’t look good when you come off as selfish, arrogant and emotionally unavailable. And even the fact that she’s tried to throw pretty slanderous accusations at him afterwards is really unfair. But, it says more about her that she keeps trying to hurt him afterward. I mean if you look at the clementine drama. All he said was you’re eating two oranges remember we’re eating a large dinner later. She tries to spin that as him trying to control her eating which is a colossal fucking reach. Also you don’t say that kind of thing unless you’re trying to hurt somebody’s reputation.

@1:31:27 Honestly this moment was kind of triggering for me. When Cole told her how he was so in love with her and she just avoided reciprocating it. That was SO telling that she had made up her mind that she was going to dump him at the altar. It's also possible she was trying to push him away by denying him the choice of his wedding attire. This is probably just me projecting and needing to keep this between me and my therapist, but this frighteningly reminds me of when my ex broke it off with me. She spent the last month avoiding me while we lived in the same house, and only ever quietly mumbled "I love you too" when I told her I loved her. A couple weeks before she broke it off she would just remain silent. We were trying to find a new apartment, and she kept telling me "why don't we wait and see if things open up closer to our lease ending?" when in reality she was lying because she had already gotten her own place to live. She sat me down one day and said we were breaking up, told me she had a place for a few weeks and asked me to leave the apartment for the weekend so I wouldn't be there when she moved out. Again, probably a gross overshare, but I saw that in this episode. This thing felt pretty pre-meditated, she made up her mind long before the wedding. It felt like she made active decisions to push him away prior to the wedding day. I call bullshit on her saying she didn't know she was going to do it before that day.

At the beginning I really did not like Cole, he came off as big-headed and not really showing like he cared for Zanab but oh my gosh by the end of it I can say, without a doubt, that he came out looking infinitely better than Zanab and her victimhood. Cole did something that a lot of men don't care to do; They look at their faults and tried to improve and through doing that he actually exposed Zanab's disgusting side. And when she said "You've criticed me" in her speech, that was the moment everything set into place. She's not unhappy because of his shortcomings, she's unhappy because he had the nerve to actually stand up to her and tell her what she didn't want to hear. Cole may be sad and honestly I feel for him as I've gone through something similar but losing her is a win for him in the long run.

I was friends with someone like that, very insecure, entitled and APPALLED that i would ever have the nerve to tell her something she did NOT want to hear. Take note that Zanab did not have any positive affirmations for COLE not once. Zanab was too insecure to be with someone like Cole. He is the type of guy to make a joke about a zit on your face saying "it almost knocked me out the bed" and then tickle you and kiss you on the cheek. If you aren't a confident person that does not take offence easily...that would be HIGHLY offensive.

Because she's not confident in herself she can't just tell him what she wants cuz She doesn't know she's good enough to expect certain things, so instead she uses passive aggrestiveness but really a bad way. It's abusive and it's a way to tear down the person, point out that "Hey look how imperfect you are, so don't judge me" but she's judging & ruining it. Mental abuse can take years to get over the damage & this is VERY Toxic behavior
