you might want to read up on your regs...Its illegal to remove king salmon from the water if out of season or if you are going to release the fish. Its best to break the line if you hook them sockeye fishing if they are out of season or you don't intend to keep them them as the prolonged fight from the bank will most likely kill them.

Yeah I know, but I didn't catch this fish and I was on shore watching some lady reel it in, then when it tugged a few times and she realized it was big she handed it over to this guy and he reeled it in. I always fight them for a bit then typically break them off, mostly because I don't want to harm them and know I'll never get them in with my 20-25 lb line. I have no idea if they had a king stamp and logged it as a catch or what? Just watched them reel it in then left. I actually have no idea who they even are, just fishing the boardwalk with everyone else. And yes you are not suppose to take the fish out of the water unless you are counting it towards your limit and marking it on your license and have a king stamp.

Mostly you're not suppose to take them from the water for photos like this. I was on the Boardwalk done fishing and just watching when she hooked this. It did seem to swim off quickly, I think the guys quick fight and steady pressure allowed him to get it in fairly quickly. A fish this size from shore is nearly impossible, at least at this spot. I typically just hold 'em tight and they break off or the hook pops out. I hate chancing tangling every ones lines when your arm to arm combat fishing. I think she just wanted to get it back in right away, because I think she new she wasn't suppose to lift it from the water and not sure if she was strong enough to get a great release, but that's why they say don't take them from the water... This was just some bystander video I got from sitting on the decking

How not to hold a king if your releasing,
@jgryga5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I have no idea who these people even are. Just down on the decking that day watching. It wasn't the greatest and they're not suppose to be brought out of the water, but it it seemed to look healthy as it swam off. I was on the decking and just happened to be watching when it all play out, so I recorded it. That was the biggest king I've seen landed from shore. It looked pretty healthy when it swam away. The guy really put the hammer down and stopped it from making any serious runs, so it wasn't played for too long. I'd guess he was able to complete what was left of his spawning, but yeah definitely not ideal. I think her excitement got the best of her.
