It's also very impactful because 16 is pretty much the first character who can't ever be brought back with the Dragon Balls, since he was entirely mechanical. It's pretty much the first time that there has ever been a situation where there was someone who Shenron simply could not bring back under any circumstances. Perhaps the biggest 'gentle giant' in the entire franchise, and he's the only one that can *never* be brought back, because even if someone like Bulma were to try and rebuild him, he simply wouldn't be the same, and they likely would even see it as a desecration of 16's memory to even make the attempt.

I am so happy that you explained the identity of SSJ2 to Madison because it's a much more subtle change than SSJ1 or SSJ3, especially when you look at something like Vegeta's second grade and Trunks' third grade transformations, it can be easily confused for just another augmentation like what they did. It's going to make her reaction to the expanded transformation in the next episode that much more awesome as she's watching Gohan get taller, bulk up, the hair, and the lightning since she'll understand what's happening. The ascended terminology isn't really used again until the World Tournament saga and it's easy to forget the goal that Vegeta and Goku were chasing to ascend. Interestingly enough, this was the 2nd time Gohan went Super Saiyan 2. The first time was in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and it was for just a second, but it was then that Goku knew Gohan would be able to rise to the level necessary to defeat Cell. That said, this is an absolutely incredible moment in DBZ, only behind Goku's long buildup to Super Saiyan.

This is by far the greatest moment in DB history. No other scene carries as much weight, emotionally, dramatically, and it's the ONLY time I prefer the dubbed version because of the soundtrack at the moment the ground shatters, you can't help but swell up with tears. Seeing both of you cry made me think of when I first watched Madison knows how we felt as fans im a grown ass man I still get tears watching gohan transform. Thats why everybody loves the original dbz it was the first anime that got the emotion out of you. Alot of people like the original dub but the funmation dub is the best because of the voice acting the music the narrator made it better I had chills this was better than the super sayian transformation goku had faith in his son which is what every son wants a father who believes in him you could see the tears in gohans eyes he didn't want to fight. Madison is smart im glad you 2 are watching it together im glad she's enjoying it. Dbz is iconic because of the emotion it is the anime that got anime over in the west. Its only going to get better. Best transformation in the entire series and my second favorite moment in the entire series. This transformation has been previewed and hinted at since the first or second episode of DBZ and it finally happened. Now the build up is over and it has happened. The thing is Cell is still not defeated and we still have so much of the Cell Games left to go. Gohan was the prodigy. What makes gohan so specialist is that he always had untapped abilities. People have to understand that gohan was the first in all of sayaian history to go beyond a super saiyan. If the saiyans were still alive theh would have heart attacks because it's unheard of. Being a super saiyan itself is already a phenomenon but to go beyond that and achieve a level higher while being gohans age is godly. Gohan was actually 9 in the manga and sub but the dub made him 11.

There were so many relatable moments from my childhood to this scene, and maybe DBZ influenced me to a certain extent but to me, I was to never give up, I could always overcome adversity because of this show. When I was a younger a random kid and his brother kept attacking my best friend over and over during a winter by burying his face in snow and throwing ice balls at him, I felt it slipping for sure because I had enough of watching it.. I grabbed a shovel and smashed this kid over the head.. he cried while his brother yelled and I held that shovel high with my best friend behind me and told them to get lost and I never saw them again. I had a friend who invited me and another guy over at the same time and near the end of the day he was grabbing my friends ear all the time and twisting it and hurting him, I grabbed his ear and twisted it.. he grabbed mine and twisted it even more and then I realized I had to go even further and it felt like I turned his ear upside down and he begged me to stop and I yelled "THATS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU DO IT TO HIM" I never saw him again either. Another time with a kid who was 4-5yrs older than us, he pinned my best friend down to the point where he was crying, I was sitting on a fence we used to climb all the time, When I realized my friend wasn't joking and was crying for help I vaulted myself off the fence and kicked that bully in the head mid air, he started tearing up and ran into his home. I've always been one to protect my friends since those days and I'll never stop. Honestly I think this show rubbed off on me to the point where I just wanted to protect the ones I loved dearly. Funny enough I was always afraid of bee's when I was this age and the friend I protected all those times saw me struggling one day with a bee around me.. He ran and smacked that insect out of the sky and stomped on him. He was trying to repay me I think even though I never asked for anything like that and I will never forget his smile when he did it and looked at me. Love you Andrew buddy.

I love the reaction on the boyfriend´s face. You can tell this is ultimate childhood nostalgia for him. I write this 2 days after the passing of the great Akira Toriyama, and I have to say, even though its sunny outside, it does seem like a good day for rain...
