Cell forcing him into the form also unlocked a sadistic streak we hadn’t seen before from Gohan. He went from “I don’t want to fight” to “I’m going to enjoy killing Cell” very quickly. We saw a version of that when Goku first went Super, since he transformed in anger, he had to fight it for control.

A lot of people never notice, but gohan fought after transforming again almost the same way we saw trunks transformation and kick this saga off by killing Frieza and his men. Gohan catches the beans like trunks catches his sword after putting it away. It shows future Gohan’s influence on trunks being that gohan was his master, but also shows that since Trunks traveled back in time and gohan was witness to him killing Frieza, maybe it influenced gohan to act like he does when he transforms into ssj2, fights Cell and kills the Jrs. The student becoming the master.

This episode solidified why Gohan is my favorite DragonBall character. The epic transformation to SSJ2 with "Gohan Angers" & then utterly destroying the Cell Jrs with "Gohan Fights Frieza" playing. I really liked every kill Gohan makes with the cells Jr the color change. To me personally it makes the blow much more impactful than if there wasn't no filter. Technically vegeta,trunks, and goku are ascended super saiyans. They broke through the ceiling of limitations of super saiyan which has never been done before. In the beginning of the Android saga, everyone thought super saiyan is the peak of power for the saiyans. It's very unheard of that their is a level beyond it and it could've easily been that way. But Gohan has reach the true ascended super saiyan.

The Cell Jrs deaths are somewhat censored, in the manga, for example when Gohan kicks one of them in half, their guts come out. He's literally in full killing mode at this point.

The only difference that from ssj1 and 2 like you said har style ss1 just just flares (yellow hair) ss2 flares up straight up the electrical energy around them. But I think they are also stronger, faster and more agile with fighting moves. You can see it with Gohan he can blow up the mini cells with one blow if he wants too. That kind of power to completely destroy the mini cells is pretty amazing. This is the reason Gohan is one my favorite characters in DBZ he's got a lot of potential.

Amazing episode!! Now that you guys have seen Gohan's power, I would like to point out a theory on why Goku gave Cell a senzu bean. It could be because it would make Cell cocky when he recovered his strength. That way he won't have to be on guard when fighting Gohan which caused him to play around with him not knowing the full potential of his opponent (this is something Vegeta and Frieza would do and Cell has both of their DNA) I don't think it was ever confirmed on why Goku did it, but I don't think he would just do it because he's a dumbass since Goku has one of the best battle IQ in anime history. Goku is a great father and he wouldn't let Gohan fight if he couldn't do it. Because if you think about it, he never intentionally put Gohan in a dangerous battlefield until now.

So as far as the power difference between Super Saiyan 1 and 2, Super Saiyan 1 gives a 50x boost in power and Super Saiyan 2 doubles that, making it a 100x boost. Also, fun fact about this episode, the creators miscounted the amount of Cell Juniors. Cell only made 7 of them, but Gohan killed 8. Just something I didn't notice at the time when I first watched it lol, I was too stunned to notice XD

15:34 What plays when Gohan fights the Cell Jrs. is called "Gohan fights Frieza." It sounds better when played in the original key, look on KZbin to hear how different it sounds. It perfectly matches Gohan's rage when he sees something and feels powerless... until his hidden power awakens and loses control. Super Saiyan 2 is very different in that it actually mentally and emotionally corrupts a fighter. Gohan isn't a fighter by nature, and doesn't even enjoy sparring for fun or training with his Dad. Super Saiyan 2 is so different that Gohan starts to enjoy hurting Cell and making him suffer as much as he can, something that surprises and scares even Piccolo. Piccolo had never seen Gohan be intentionally ruthless or gleefully sadistic until Gohan turned Super Saiyan 2. .

I know it's a year later but fun fact: Gohan actually destroys 8 Cell Jr.'s, even though there were only 7. They accidentally had an extra one and miscounted when making the episode. Also, Gohan is my all time fav DBZ character, and I even used to cosplay SSJ1 gohan from this Saga, around the time that he got the hole in the knee of his pants, and the gash on his forehead. I did the makeup to have that gash with blood running down from it. "Gohan Angers", the song that plays when he is transforming and telling Cell to "Tell them to stop it", is also my all time fav DBZ song. Bruce Falconer is genius at making the music for anything!

Ah Super Saiyan 2, I'll answer this question. Super Saiyan 2 is *x2* the the power of Super Saiyan 1. (Basically 100x base) I know a lot of people seem to love the transformation last episode. Me personally I prefer *THIS* episode's rendition of it. It's more theatrical and it's a lot more stylish and it has a lot more heart to it. Last episode was too "instantaneous" for my taste.

It's 100x of his base which in itself is twice (2x) the power of Super Saiyan 1. I never said it was only a "x2 boost" So what you just said was severely misleading. Like wow dude. That multiplier is nothing to mess with. Just how powerful do you think Perfect Cell is? 🤨😏 And when Super Perfect Cell came back later he had a zenkai boost because (spoiler alert) he blew himself up and regenerated, so of course he's going to be a lot more powerful than before. And on top of that during that situation Gohan's power was severely drained and one of his arms was useless. It was a situational equalizer in accordance to the writer. They had to weaken Gohan and give Cell a buff to give him a upper hand.... (No pun intended) Any other situation Gohan would have destroyed him.

Appreciate you guys and this community :) We should do the Cell vs Gohan Kamehameha live and the entire community can do the Kamehameha together in KZbin live chat! So as far as scaling goes- Gohan at least has a higher multiplier than Grade 2 to Grade 3. Cell currently isn't at his full potential yet, but before he gets an upgrade Gohan should easily be over x20 stronger than Cell pre-explosion while Gohan is suppressed. We know that Cell's power boost was compared to the increase Gohan got in Super Saiyan 2, you can take that as literally as you want- but all that does is make Gohan even stronger. Let's give Cell a 4x multiplier, so dividing we know that Gohan *while supressed* is at least 5x stronger than Cell Super Perfect Form. Now all that scaling has been lowballs on purpose believe it or not- but now we get into the crazy stuff. If SSJ2 Gohan WHILE SUPRESSED is 20x stronger than Perfect Cell and 5x stronger than Super Perfect Cell, then how much stronger than a no holds bard- all out Gohan- be? Well other scalers in the community have agreed that when Gohan fires his father-son Kamehameha- he literally CAN'T be at his full strength because he was injured while saving Vegeta. Why? Well because we have gotten confirmation that when your life force is low it directly effects how much power you have, as stated by not only the series but the guide books. Since he only had an arm destroyed- let's low ball him again. Let's say that Gohan only used 75% of Gohan power- though a lot of scalers argue he only used 50%, and remember- this power would be even more insane if he had ever bothered training with it. So let's round up and say SSJ2 Gohan not suppressed is at least 8x stronger than Super Perfect Cell. But wait- another hidden factor. We know that Gohan was holding back until the end of the arc when he used all his power (that he could use while injured) to destroy cell. Which means that if you want to say that Gohan was holding back until the end- just say that he was 2x stronger (multiplied by both his suppressed form and full power) than his previous showings- which would mean Gohan in our very much low balled estimate is at least 40x stronger than Cell Pre-explosion and AT LEAST 10x stronger than Super Perfect Cell (but it could be even higher mind you!). Pretty insane scaling when you realize both get at the east a x2-x3 multiplier to their Kamehameha's!!!

I don't think Gohan was surpressed, and I don't think he was any more than 1.5x to 2x stronger than super perfect cell, but you're right that he was close to 20x stronger than the original perfect cell.

I went from watching the last episode seeing Gohan rage after 16s death speech to watching the new DBS movie with Beast Gohan or w/e lol it was freaking awesome!!!!!!!! The multipliers for the Saiyajin forms are: Oozaru = x10 Base. Super Saiyajin = x50 Base. Super Saiyajin Grade 2 = x75 Base. (1.5x SSJ) Super Saiyajin Grade 3 = x100 Base. (x2 SSJ, Speed Reduction) Super Saiyajin 2 = x100 Base. (x2 SSJ) Super Saiyajin 3 = x400 Base. (x4 SSJ2) Note that these are the only confirmed multipliers we have. Anything beyond SSJ3 we don't have info on yet. Fun Fact: TOEI Animation accidentally added an extra Cell Jr. in this episode. Gohan actually kills 8 of them, but there are supposed to only be 7.

What people don’t seem to understand is that this episode is juxtaposing Gohan and Chi Chi for a reason. His rage and impossible inner strength comes from Chi Chi, this is why Trunks doesn’t have the same ability(despite Bulma being tough in her own right).

The difference between 1ssj and 2ssj is the hair is more spiked and a little longer and there control over there emotions more erratic, or less controlled. also out of all the transformations Gohans ssj2 transformation hit me the hardest. The buildup is genius. It will always be my fav scene in all anime.

Super Saiyan 2 is simply twice the power of a Regular Super Saiyan, or you could word it that its 100x Base form Powerlevel. So Gohan's power right now is somewhere around twice that of Goku's full SSJ powerlevel.

The animators have him back as a SSJ and he goes through a whole new, longer transformation. Both are cool, but they should have just stuck with one.

However, the second scene is when he actually ascends to the next level alongside his hidden power as is why Cell could hardly keep up with him. The Manga just had the one transformation, but the Anime decided to add the SSJ2 part separately. Prob for filler as you say, but just adds more logic as to why Cell can’t even hurt him.
