They are super adorable, same thing happened to us when my partner and I were upgrading our community fishes tank we couldn't find one of our last loaches, we looked all over the decor, plants, the substrate, and even the room to see if he jumped out, but to our surprise he was just hidden in the substrate really well for about two days! I yelled excitingly to my partner that he wasnt gone and was just hidden really well in the sand 😂 hes still happily swimming with his other schooling buddies seeming unfazed or not really hurt by being there for quite a while

I love my little wiggle fish. I gotta say that I got a group of 6 and they also like to come out during the day and wiggle around. They usually run away if I get close to the aquarium during the day but if not I see they squirming around to find food in the front of the tank.

I have a fishtank in my room and put a few tetras and 3 kuhli loaches. It was a 5 gallon tank so when the tetras died and so did the loaches a few months later I thought I lost all of them. Not feeding cleaning doing anything to that tank just letting it run for 7 months. Yesterday I finally decided to throw the tank away and when I went to take out my decorations there was still one in there. I will cherish him with my life. He cannot die. I fed him all the food he could handle and now he’s happy. He is my king. I worship him. For he survived the survivor. By sheer will he survived.

For someone like me, who loves Ferrets and Snakes (and kept/keeping them both), this is exactly why the Kuhli Loaches caught my eye. I am more into reptiles, but recently started with Aquariums too. It started when I bought a waterplant for a watergarden-display, and after 2 weeks I found some little snails in there. So what do sane people do? Toss them out... leave them be and see what happens...? Well I decided to buy a whole Nano-Tank for them lol. I will add some shrimp soon since they are just adorable. Apart from that I am not really too much into regular fish, but when I saw the Kuhli Loaches, my heart made like a little jump. Now I fear I have to start another tank with some of them lol. What did these 2mm big snails do to me XD

Solid information poured out here, kudos to you! Just to share, my observation of loaches in the wild reveals their mysteriously skittish behavior of darting about in the tank which you've highlighted in this vid. Loaches are active *micropredators* with a keen sense of smell & just about the only reason they move is actually to hunt! And they are not at all shy. For example, here in Singapore these loaches are native to forest streams & are endangered. Here, amongst mulm & leaf litter on a substrate of gravel the loaches scrutinise every crevice found on the bottom aggregate. For microorganisms like ostracods & cladocerans. And it appears to me these loaches don't need to eat a lot to get by. Once a Pangio spp. loach has something to munch it'll take a break by remaining still (usually under a leaf) for a while. So, overfeeding is not a good idea with these guys. Yeap! That's what I saw. Cheers.

I moved them to my 20gallon so now I have 17 Kuhli loaches thriving in 7.0ph & they're super active, everywhere you look there are Kuhli loaches, big & small. Mine eat anything, including Hikari sinking wafers, but they definitely prefer Fluval Bug Bites, Sera O-nip tabs, but their favorite is frozen Bloodworms.

I love kuhli loaches they are truly individuals, I have been fortunate in that I always ended up getting very active ones. I am a night owl so I see even the shy ones at around 1 am. I have the same story with an old aquarium, it had been torn down for at least 4 months with water just deep enough to cover the gravel, no pump no heater.. I was scooping out the gravel to wash it ... and lo and behold there he was! I felt terrible and cleaned the tank out and popped him back in and he lived for years. I have been unable to find them near me for the past ohh.... 5 years? So i was thrilled when my local pet store ended up with 1... yes one... So he has no buddies yet, but I am hoping they get in more soon! Great starter fish and one I started with years and years ago as a complete newbie. I had him for at least 8 years... and back then I didn't even know they prefered to be in groups. I have grown quite partial to them!

I can confirm your loach story at the end.... I once removed all the fish and completely drained a tank.... left the dredges of sand/rocks at the bottom.... Put the tank in the garage for months... Went back in to scoop out the dredges at the bottom and just toss them into my outdoor pond... Then I see a loach swimming around in my net as I'm scooping sand/rocks out... I've kept these little guys off and on since the late 70s or early 80s. They are one of my favorites. The only premature losses have been to ones that find a space between the filter and the lid where they jump out when they are zooming around the tank. Like the tank in the video, that was left for a year, mine was in the garage for a few months, hot as blazes at times, and when I dumped it a kuhli popped out. He lived out the rest of his life in a friends community tank. Hardy little guys.

I had a few Kuhlis in a community tank some years ago. I hadn't seen the Kuhlis for many months and assumed they had died. When I had to sell the tank in order to move to a smaller place, I caught all the fish that I thought I had; removed all the rocks and plants and drained it till there was only about an inch of water left. I then scooped out all the gravel into a bucket. Lo and behold! When I was about to tip the remaining water away, I caught a glimpse of something swimming in the dirty water. It turned out that all my Kuhlis must have buried themselves in the gravel and as I scooped it out, they emerged! They were all fit and healthy.

50+ years ago I had a kuhli in my 10g guppy tank. When I moved out and the tank was left unattended for 4+ years, only a few inches of water left, that loach was the sole survivor. No filtering, no heating, no external food. Very similar to dean's loach.

Ha! That story about the Kuhli Loach living in the emptied aquarium... When I was a kid, I drained-but-never-emptied an aquarium. When I went to set it up again ages later, I was shocked to find a giant Bronze Catfish living in a puddle under the partially-removed undergravel filter. Surprised the crap out of me...

While growing up we had one jump out and fall to the carpet, it's was totally dry and motionless, covered in cat hair and dust. We threw it back in the tank and it came back. It was likely on the carpet for a long time.

I've had mine for over 10 years and am looking for some more as they are starting to die of old age. Have had them (9) with assorted tetras, dannios, and guppies. 30gal cube shaped tank with smaller smooth gravel, several flat rocks pushed into the slope of the gravel facing the front for caves, lots of plants, and around 74°f. One of my favorites!

My friend who has a fish shop and who had studied fish in university says that's it's normal for Kuhlis to swim up and down in an aquarium at times if they feel save and happy. I keep mine with my Betta, cherry and amano shrimps, danios, guppy's and red rummies.and a few Harlekin Rasboras. All harmony

when I first started looking at what kind of fish I wanted to start with I thought they looked gross, I don't like snakes and stuff so I was like eww. but the more I saw them the more I liked how silly they are. I just got 4 for my new tank and they are my favorite fish by far. they are so silly and I get so excited anytime i see them do literally anything. Now I am a big fan of Kuhli Loaches.

Just an observation, but recently I added Indian almond leaves, and they have sunk to the bottom. The kuhlis have been swimming non- stop today. I only have 2, its a 10- gallon tank. For me Honestly once the are used to an environment, they are quite active and seem to love to play and explore. I dont know if its the leaves or not, but I am guessing it is!

This video is why I decided I had to have kuhlis in my 20gal when I got it set back up. Got 6 black kuhlis 4 days ago. Beautiful chocolate noodles who got to be the first in the tank. Centerpiece fish is a king Betta named Maverick, some mollies, pearl danios, and glo-light tetras. Also have some black neon tetras currently in there to take advantage of quarantine space who will go into a different tank later. I do want to get a couple otocinculus and am planning to add some snails since kuhlis are usually snail safe (and I got a preggo Japanese trapdoor in the fall, so got some babies in need of a place to live). I actually am working on a peacock gudgeon tank, as I'm in the minority of them being one of my favorite fish (might be due to their autistic-like traits), but don't plan on any kuhlis in there

stumbled across this video, sat here watching my khulis swim around. Its funny everywhere recommends sand, 300L (65 Gal) tank has a dedicated sandy area specifically for the kuhlis but they spend more time in the tetra active substrate on the opposite end of the tank.

I think Kuhli loaches are awesome, and I think of them as miniature eels. I have Seiryu stones, and I noticed they shifted the sand around the one stone and created a cave. They constantly go in and out from there. Furthermore, I truly enjoy seeing them entangle themselves within the Java fern roots. I was quite amused seeing how your loaches entangled in the frogbit and came up to the surface to eat because mind never does it. Lastly, I recently bought Panda Garra, and I must say, I think you will enjoy that rare type of fish because they are small exceptional algae eater as well as super active.

I loved the video instant sub! I got mine a year ago and at first i was worried too when they started to dart up and down and i was worried the something was wrong i keep 4 of them with 2 gold ancistrus plecos L144 in a 16gallon planted. After literally watching them for days i noticed they love to skim the top from time to time i set up the tank to have multiple layers with a small flow pump at one part of the top to simulate a small river and i have two who just love to sometimes swim right in front of the pump current swimming like champs so im currently trying out what other enrichments i can give them. I love them so much 😊

Tau Neutrino I was just watching your video again where you were talking about bringing them home and your surprise how they were out and brave, I started thinking that they’re probably a little more brave in your tank because you have the floating plants so they feel kind of like they’re in a cave or something. I’ve had them before and I never paid attention to anything other than they do better in groups if you get two or three you may never see them but if you get eight or 10 the kind of push each other out and wake each other up I guess and they just feel more comfortable, that and cover. It would be interesting to see what would happen if you took all your floating plants out, if they would be so brave with direct light coming down. 🤔
