My golden retriever came to my house 5 years ago by entering my front yard (gate was left open). He immediately laid down on the grass and started acting like he's been here forever. After unsuccessfully trying to find his owner, we adopted him. Needless to say, he made our home much happier place.

Makes me remember our Retriever. He was such a gentle giant but my god I'll forever remember the time me and him were rough housing and during a match of tug-o-war he somehow mustered the strength to drag my 300 pound ass across the house while I was flat on my back And one time when I was a kid (I think around 11) and he was a pup I fell asleep on the floor and he managed to somehow wedge himself under my head so I was using him as a pillow and woke to him asleep like that.

I had a golden retriever named Tobi and he was the best dog I could ever ask for 💖❤️💗💞💕 We had to put him down 2 days before Thanksgiving last year. The emergency vet said he thought it was an infection and sent Tobi back home with us 2 days prior, saying to bring him back if he doesn't improve within 24 hours and they'll hospitalize him. I don't think I've ever been so upset with a vet before in my life until then. Anyway, Tobi had such a big personality and the biggest heart, so full of love, I mean just bursting at the seams with so much love to give us 🥺🥹 He even came into my room to say goodbye to me a couple days before he passed away. Normally he'd come into my room to say he needed to go potty, but that night I knew it was different. He laid his head on my bed and let me rub his ears, gave me some kisses, and absolutely did not want to go outside haha. I miss him dearly. I love you, Tobi! Momma and I miss you so much, baby boy!

Golden Retrievers are great because: 1. So affectionate, love to be cuddled and loved on. 2. Never seem to get angry even if teased or messed with. 3. Typically, they are one of the gentlest big dog breeds out there. 4. Typically, they like children, even young children (toddlers), and can be trusted nearly 100% not to hurt baby sister or younger brother. 5. They are typically protective of their baby (human) sister or baby (human) brother. 6. They have the sweetest, saddest eyes when they look at you wistfully that can make a hard man melt. They are aesthetically beautiful to look at.

Sadly, I don’t think the golden retriever would be the dog for me. I’m not sure I would be consistent enough with daily brushing (between ADHD and depression, daily routines are tougher) and with that long coat, I’m sure regular professional grooming is also necessary. So I think a short-haired dog would prob be a better fit for me. I don’t want to get a long haired-pup and have them end up with painful matting because of me >.

They look like the sun, they’re funny, they’re smart, they’re beautiful, they love humans, they’re kid friendly, they have a cute name, their puppy eyes, their love for food, they’d protect a toddler from a snake or predator, they’re goofy, they’re always either good at everything they do or do it wrong but in a goofy and funny way, they look like and act like puppies, you can trust them with newborns, they’re beautiful, they love music, their eyes, they’re golden, kids love them, they have a great reputation, they’ll do anything just to hear the words “Good boy” or “Good girl”, they’re good in families, you can name them anything except for something like “Dumb b*tch”, they love you, if you’d break your hip or something within eyesight of them they’d get worried about you and you’d easily become famous if you posted clips of the dogs on social media or KZbin or something. That’s why I love Golden Retrievers.

For some reason I know 2 Golden's that are not so golden one is people and dog aggressive and the other is intact male dog aggressive and will turn on you in his frustration. Not all of them are the same anymore after they have been so over bred. The one that is intact male dog aggressive we dog sit all the time like right now for 4 months and at 11 months old is still behaved like a bad 6 months old puppy jumping on counters barking at us nipping when he doesn't get his way and we give a correction and we can't seem to ever find an off switch with him he has literally layed on top of my dogs head when playing and I've had to pull him off and he snaps at me he's 70 pounds my puppy is max 30-35 right now nowadays they are not so easy to train especially if it's from parents with bad temperament like im thinking he is. But he has improved being here his owner had him on a cheap prong we switched him to a good harness to protect his throat and now he's walking well on leash no pulling only took 2 weeks I think a lot of bad behaviour now a days is owners lack of training and bad backyard breeders.

@@Yeah_You_Thought NONE that I ever noticed. No dog is non shedding, but these are so minimal you just don't see it. Trust me, our only other dog was a full blooded black lab and they SHED. Sheep dogs are a "herding" breed and they can have a tendency to "nip" at other dogs or even kids when playing. Not bite, but nip. Price can be ridiculous with the popularity. Upwards of $3500 to over $4000 😱😱. NO, I paid nowhere near that. Harper LOVES to take walks and play fetch with her stuffed animals or tennis balls. Inside or out. She's a standard size and is about 75-80lbs and about 22 to 24" tall. She's B&W and she is a good dog for the most part. She's still a dog and likes to bark at cats, squirrels and the such.

We are now on our third Golden and have loved every minute with all of them. Our first Golden, who almost made it to 16 years old, would do that as well, but mainly with her thick fisherman's rope. She'd have this thick, bulky rope dangling out of her mouth, balanced with her paws, and she's on her back having the time of her life. And then she'd see one of us, roll over, dump the soggy rope right in our lap, give us a huge brown eye look with that goofy grin on her face, and the split second we touched that rope, tug of war was on! I love how all a Golden really wants is to be loved as part of the family.

My golden retriever who passed away about a year ago was the best dog you could ever ask for. Her name was Cindy and she was with us for 14 years. I still love her so much and always still think about her. I hope to see her again in heaven.

When i was walking my little yorkshire and my neighbor's golden approached and tried playing with my dog, this dog was so gentle i coulnd't believe. At that moment i I immediatly understood why people love golden retriver so much!

99% of dogs do the same thing. Even my absolutely rotten terrier was good to the puppy chihuahua I had as a child. It was one of the only times it was gentle.

My family has only had Goldens for as long as I've been alive, and they had two Goldens before I was born. There is not a more dumb, goofy animal on the planet than a golden retriever. Genuinely nothing going on in their pretty little heads other than love, cuddles, food, and playing. I know it's said all the time, but they're the perfect pet if you're a first time dog owner. So easy to train, and once they're trained, you just have the most ridiculous best friend you could ever ask for. Just don't teach them how to shake!! (We taught my current Golden, Fry, how to shake and now he uses his paws to communicate like a human. And I mean he does it for EVERYTHING.)
