From what i heard, pekin duck has a lot of health issue because they've been bred selectively for meat. So they grow way bigger and heavier than normal duck. As a result, many of them has issues with walking (i think because of weight balance)
@julianna98542 жыл бұрын
As someone who raises and breeds pekins, they're actually one of the healthiest breeds that I've had- however, I raise them differently than most people. (I let the ducklings free range, which results in much stronger and active birds) The only ducks that I had struggle to walk were poorly bred Swedish Black ducks with genetic niacin deficiency. (I did not breed them) This is just my experience though, other people may have completely different opinions. :)

People are sometimes curious why someone would want a wheelchair for an animal. My dog had one in his older years and like Frankie it was a struggle to have a good one. @rowdybliss2 жыл бұрын
There’s a little dog in my neighborhood who needs wheels for her back end, and she seems to have adapted so beautifully. Animals don’t seem to feel sorry for themselves… they’re a real lesson on how to be in the moment and do the best you can with what you’ve got… and we owe it to our fellow creatures (human and otherwise) to help them however we can.

I understand a dog, kind of. A duck is not a pet. A duck cannot BE a pet. The are strapping it into a contraption and being like "oh it's so happy now" and the duck struggles to even groom itself properly. It cannot act like a normal duck. They should put the poor thing out of its misery. I don't understand why people take compassion so far that it turns into cruelty.
@max_punch2 жыл бұрын
@@sj4iy bruh, if a dog can have a weelchair so can a duck or any other animal. And yes ducks can be pets, i've never had a pet duck but I have pet chickens so I guess they're similar, they're pretty smart animals, if you teach them correctly they will learn tricks and even learn to defend you. They don't really like leashes or stuff put around them, but i'm pretty sure a disabled animal would accept a weelchair just fine cause it helps it move. The duck doesen't really seem to be in extreme pain, like with some disease so I don't see a reason to put it down
@aquabluerose77342 жыл бұрын
@@max_punch exactly! Also most disabled animals struggle with grooming, it doesn't inherently mean they have a bad quality of life as long as someone else can help them out. Elderly cats often aren't flexible enough to lick their whole body for example.
@stefincanada2 жыл бұрын
@@sj4iy to be honest it is a matter of opinion and perception. for example a French Bulldog needs assistance with grooming due to it's genetic makeup, almost all dogs & cats need assistance with cleaning their eyes & ears no matter how efficient they are in self grooming. @catpoke95572 жыл бұрын
@@lunix3259 Exactly. Though with corgis removing them is entirely cruel. Pigs often have their tusks removed to prevent injuries to the pig itself and fellow pigs or other animals around it, so there are good reasons to do it. But in the end if you try hard enough you can prevent and also treat these things when they happen, so a dedicated owner is able to own them and keep their tusks. I don't hate people who removed them, but I respect those who keep them since they most likely did so due to taking very good care of them. With corgis, you've got absolutely no reason to dock their tails. That's just wrong. @@connormccloy9399 that mindset is way too emotional and unnatural. In nature disabled animals get picked off by predators. It is their efficient way of surviving. Millions of animal species die out because of our consumerism economy instead of recycle economy. Be aware that the word ''waste'' did not excists before the industrial revolution. The turkey is beautiful. They are massive birds with beautiful feathers. My grandparents use to rescue animals too. I grew up with four alligators living in the barn they had a pool and house. We also had turkeys they were rescued from the sloter house. We didn't have very many pig's, we had sheep. I took care of gaint rabbits that were illegally sold. They were left in small cages. I helped build a big playhouse for them. I miss my grandparents, they passed out a few years ago. I have great memories of them.

My dad came to the conclusion that they're not muscled enough, and managed to find a way to help them get stronger and not get 'bad habits', by tying a short rope from one of their legs to the other. Long enough that they can walk but short enough that their legs don't go too far from one another. This until they manage without the rope. ....Hope that helps? ^^;;;;;;

I'm so happy that you're showcasing a farm rescue. Especially knowing they save animals from the meat industry. I'm not 100 percent against eating meat, but I am against the industries in place. Animals shouldn't be a commodity. To me, if you want to eat meat you should be willing to either hunt, raise, or seek out a farm where you can see the animals' care. Just because their 'purpose' is meat doesn't mean they aren't living, breathing things who feel pain, fear and discomfort. They should have a good life, and we should be thankful and use every part.

I used to love my iguana's daily baths, so if someone nearby has an iggu that needs grooming that would be a delight. They usually need a mani/pedi, too. My boy Turk was a rescue, he had burns on top of his head from getting too close to heat lamps -- he was a free-roamer, but his first person didn't have a warm enough basking spot for him, so Turk kept pressing up against the heat lamps trying to get warm and winding up burning himself. Two years and a lot of polysporin (and a dedicated, partially-enclosed basking spot) healed some of it, but he always had burn marks and small places scales wouldn't grow, which made shedding his skin extra challenging in a few spots. I loved that ig, whether he was knocking stuff off my dresser with his tail because HEY HEY THE SUN IS UP LET'S GO GET UP or laying on my chest, staring into my eyes, and slowly tapping his dewlap on my chin. Because that's a totally normal and not at all frightening way to start your day.

I adore iggys... always wanted to be in a position to set up an iggy rescue but it never came to pass. They are wonderful, but many people seem to take them on without realising just what they will need as they get to be adults. Same with the large snake breeds. Reading that you woke up to an iggy laying on you (my cats do that every morning too), made me smile a lot. You're lucky to have that wholesome experience :) x

It's amazing that some in the comments can be so cold hearted. Like, for example, one guy was like put it out of it's misery. Or how it's such a waste of time to help any of these creatures out. I feel that most people don't understand ethics. I think people think that animals are basically robotic pieces of meat that are just born to die. But people don't understand that we are apart of the animal kingdom as well, and while we are much more developed in our cognitive functionality, we still have a choice. We have a responsibility to use our conscious choices for good. People don't know enough about animals, so they take what is sold to them and just go with it because they don't take the time to learn and make a better choice. This is a subject people need to learn about more and hopefully make more human choices. I also understand there will be a bunch of experts out there trying to prove a point to boost their ego. Go for it. All thoughts should be heard. We should all ask questions, and not stay stuck in one school of thought.
