Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

Күн бұрын

Cliffe Knechtle has a good dialogue with students at Texas State University. Recorded in October 2017.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

I spent decades worrying until I came closer and closer to Christ and realized I don't need to worry. I didn't realize this early in life but I guess better late than never.

In another video the first male talks about categories etc, this video he talks about A and B etc, he is very logical - I like how Uncle Cliff has such an open mind that he listened to where he was coming from and actually tried to understand his approach.

'If I could change pigeons over a few years, Imagine what could happen over millions of years' Well, this is the thing with evolution - it needs billions of years. It needs _that_ much room to make it sound even feasible. Talk about the God of the gaps when your god of time (Chronos) isn't just a gap but an unimaginably-large chasm, dotted a few times here and there with depictions of different animals (which are held together by the glue of suppositions). Spiders are pretty much exactly the same as they were long before we were supposedly otter-like creatures... but your birds developed (within the species - just like humans are different while still the same) within a few short years. The theory works against itself in so many ways. Time poses problems to the idea more than it supports it. It's laughable how people believe the most ridiculous story ever taken seriously, just because living organisms can adapt and scientists have placed a few skeletons and pictures of similar animals together... Maybe I should draw an image-set of humans gradually evolving from flying spaghetti monsters. Perhaps they would believe that too.

Evolution is accepted science. It is supported by vast branches of science. The DNA record itself confirms evolution, but that record also supports the archaeological fossil record, taxonomy, geology palaeontology, dendrochronology, primatology, and many other areas of science. The idea that the blind marsupial mole, the flightless kiwi, and the platypus were able to walk from Turkey across continents and oceans, leaving no trace of their existence ANYWHERE else in the world, to arrive in Australia and New Zealand. All this whist avoiding the Malaysian tiger and other predators along the way. THAT IS A FANTASY. THAT IS RIDICULOUS.

I understand your reasoning and I don't consider it crucial to salvation, however it's clear from context that Genesis 1 is ancient Hebrew poetry, written in parallels written to explain who (and a little of why) created the universe. It in no way tries to chronologically describe the age, or process in which it was done. There is no science in the bible, that's why we turn to scientists to find out the process

@@170221dnif you think God was created, then who created God? And then who created that creator, and who created that creator [ad infinitum]. God was not created. He is eternal, the uncaused cause. And the truth of the Old Testament and New Testament are not the machinations of "Bronze Age goat herders." I suggest you read the Bible and find out for yourself what it actually contains, instead of being a mindless troll who just believes the first things you find on a 5 second Google search.

RELIGIOUS THINKING RULES. 1. "Everything has a cause" EXCEPT GOD. 2. "Life cannot come from non-life" UNLESS GOD DID IT. 3. "Science can't explain everything" THEREFORE YOU MUST BELIEVE IN MAGIC WITHOUT EVIDENCE WHICH EXPLAINS NOTHING.
@boltrooktwo

The alternative to intelligent design and trustworthy senses is accident from blind random chance. You instead must believe, because you don’t know, everything comes from magic without purpose as pure accident. It takes more faith and irrational thinking for the alternatives without evidence and breaks down human thought and ability to communicate, it’s very regressive. Unless you find a more intelligence source for rationality and design with more evidence you will only be able to deconstruct and do harm.

Atheist thinking rules: 1) All morality is subjective and utilitarianism is the best approach to solving all problems (except moral relativism means there's no objective right and wrong, so do as you please as long as you're not worried about getting caught). 2) "Science," has an answer for everything, and science disproves God! (No it doesn't. Modern science and its practices was started by Christians who were seeking to understand the mechanisms by which God designed Creation). 3) God is racist / sexist / misogynistic / homophonic / genocidal / a slaver! (No he's not. God abhors sin, not sinners. "Slavery," is not confined by God, nor is God a misogynist considering some of the best heroes of the Bible are females; Rahab, Ruth, Judith, Esther, Mary). 4) All life is a cosmic accident and we're here purely by chance! (We are not the products of luck; you don't get order from chaos and you don't get reason from no reason. If everything is an accident with no purpose driving its creation, then life is meaningless and atheism answers this with despair and nihilism. Despair and nihilism are abhorrent and self defeating).

@NeonDemon88 EVERYTHING I SAID IS STILL CORRECT. But I'll give you some corrections. 1. I'm a secular humanist, NOT a utilitarian. Secular humanism provides a far better way to approach moral problems than ANY religion. Secular himanism's primary concern is about the well-being of human beings instead of appeasing a god or gods. 2. Science does not answer everything and never claims to. It does show that biblical creationism is wrong. 3. The god of the bible is pro-genocide, pro- slavery, sexist, racist, and homophobic. Any objective reading of the bible would agree. I suggest you actually read the Bible cover to cover, and you'll see. 4. More religious people are nihilists than atheists, and it's easy to understand why. If you view this life as merely being a test to pass before gaining entry into an eternal afterlife, then ultimately, nothing matters outside of conforming to arbitrary rules, which different denominations can't agree on anyway. Even then rapists, child molesters (in abundance), murderers etc. merely have to ask god for forgiveness to retain entry into heaven. As an atheist, I value highly the ONE life we agree that human beings get. My actions have an effect on people around me and future generations to come. Humans evolved as a social species and continue to live as a social species. That is where you morality and mine comes from. But if the only reason you're not a thief, rapist, or murderer is that you believe God is keeping a moral inventory on you, then keep going to church. But your morality is very shallow. I stand by everything in my initial post, and nothing you've said disagrees with it. I hope you have a little more education now about where I'm coming from. Have a good day. Ben.

Goodness, everyones an expert nowadays. Except Cliffe isn't a biologist and doesn't grasp the complexity of Evolution, which BTW is scientific fact, not philosophy. I also doubt his knowledge extends to abiogenesis or quantum mechanics-who's does?- so why doesn't he just say, I dont know?

Gaz Roberts hi again Gaz. What is your evidence? Presumptuous I know but I don’t think we’ll agree on what constitutes proof of god. If we look to Facts presented to us by science, however, we can see abundant evidence for Evolution, a heliocentric solar system and an old universe...all of which debunk biblical teachings. T’would be folly indeed to deny them.

I dont have any expertise in science or biology etc, but I would urge you to read up on the evolution of simple cells and abiogenesis, its a lot more convincing than biblical parables of golem like creation etc. Furthermore, surely you're just replacing any gaps in our knowledge with god, and calling it evidence? Can you give me specific evidence for god, creator? We all know there is none, that why religions have faith. The bible describes the earth in a firmament, under a dome of stars, unmoving and geocentric. Incorrect of course, and not very worthy of an omniscient being. Good to have a friendly debate....Peace.
@rovert46
@rovert46 6 жыл бұрын
Yes it does, genesis ch1. Firmament. Calls it...right there. In the midst of the waters, ridiculous isn't it? Again, you give no evidence. I would definitely ponder any evidence given, but so far there's nothing. The cosmo whatnot argument is NOT evidence....you know that, so you're tap dancing. "...it will point to god. Or a creator at least. Topple the argument above or believe in a creator." I can point to the stars, it doesn't prove anything. So, its god...or a creator?? Bit vague suddenly, Gaz. OK, I'll go with Nature, the Creator. Smiley Face.
@rovert46
@rovert46 6 жыл бұрын
The cosmo argument has been sufficiently challenged so I dont need to...its a logical fallacy of circular reasoning which offers no Evidence. You're pointing again!! Okay, I'm not wading through the gud book to find references to poor ideas about astronomy, but Firmament?? Still believe in that gem? Its certainly not a heliocentric system. Genesis again: wrong so wrong. Was this written by Moses? So some old guy claiming divine inspiration channeling god....and you guys believe it. As ever, Peace.

I have to correct Cliffe when he says 'evolution as an origin is not science'. Nobody who studies evolution is saying that. Evolution explains how life diversifies once life had already begun. The origins of life are currently unknown from a scientific point of view. It's one of life's many mysteries we have yet to unlock.

Yes, the origins of life are unknown from a scientific point of view. But when life began, It's not scientific to say evolution began. You cannot go back in time, recreated what happened & test it. All you can do is look at the evidence & make an interpretation. That's why Cliffe said it's a philosophy, because you can't have life select itself from non-life.

@MoveLegacies: I'm not so sure that showing how life can come from non life will never be done, never say never, we don't know what future generations may discover. I'm sure that people living a few thousand years ago would imagine that man walking on the moon would be impossible.
