Hi! I spoke to the person that runs my insurance inquiries and everything. He’s amazing but only speaks Spanish. When I say amazing, I mean it. This guy answers right away and finds solutions to all problems. You can get MUSA with your passport. He sent me all the information you need for an “international” user. Let me know if you want access to it. You can send me your email. About the hospital, it will depend on your insurance network you can’t choose. But I have zero complains with my insurance network honestly. I’ve had great care here in Spain!

Hey! Thank you! I was wondering if your insurance had a waiting period before they would cover your labor and delivery? I have seen some insurances like sanitas and adesas that have an 8 month wait so they won’t cover the labor and delivery if we go before my due date 😩😭

Oh no :( that doesn’t sound good. I didn’t have that problem with mine. Sanitas is very popular so I’m not surprised. Have you checked my insurance? It’s called Nueva Mutua Sanitaria (MUSA)

Not sure… I hope not! And I was 4 months pregnant when I arrived. However I got the private insurance when I was 2 months pregnant.

Hi! I work as a therapist in my private practice :) which sometimes puts me at a disadvantage in Spain because i dont work for a Spanish company or have a Spanish salary (my income come from the USA)

Did they give the baby the Hep B vaccine, the vitamin K shot, and the erythromycin eye ointment? And, did they give the baby a hearing test? And what about the birth certificate and baby's nationality? Thanks.

Hi! thank you for your questions! Yes, maam. All of those. Including the "ankle test" (I dont know the official name). In terms of birth certificate, I had to handle it through a government office days after discharge, because I was at the hospital on a weekend and couldnt get it done there (but usually you can get these documents together at the hospital). And that is the case because his father is Spanish, therefore, my son is Spanish as well. Not sure if this is the same process for foreigners. I did get his American citizenship paperwork through the US embassy. More questions? :)

@@dani-movesWhat makes you think I'm a "ma'am"?😂 I'm just a very informed father. Do they provide formula, daipers, baby wipes, etc., free of charge as they do in the U.S., or would that be an additional cost? My wife and I are both American, but are sick and tired of the violence here in New York. That is why I asked about the citizenship status. We plan to just buy a house, but don't want to have to leave after 90 days and then return and have to do that ad naseum for 5+ years in order to get residency. Thank you for the helpful information.

I know your story is positive but everything you’ve explained is exactly what I fear. I’ve lived in Spain now for almost 2 years and I know very well how their customer service is almost nonexistent and they are very “straight forward”. I’m pregnant now and the thought of giving birth here scares me so much I don’t think I can do it. I was looking for reassurance that it’ll be ok but I don’t think I can change my mind. If money was not an issue, would you still say that you would give birth in Madrid?

Hi! It’s funny. When I recorded my video I had seen my OBGYN maybe 3-4 times max. And you know what? I ended up telling my husband I wasn’t moving out of madrid until I had my second one because I wanted to have it here. My experience in San Rafael hospital was beyond good. It was beyond what I could’ve expected. It was just perfect. I was treated with so much compassion and love and understanding. My births were amazing thanks to the staff I had. Yeah it’s true they won’t give you great costumer service, but they are SO HUMANE here. After a while of observing and experiencing the culture I can tell you, I have no complaints. If you’re giving birth in Spain, I want to tell you, you will be safe and you will be okay 🤍 I wish you the very best and hope your experience surprises you. Hey Dani, glad you had a great experience. Something i would say is that you said that they “made you admit to hospital” which i dont think is accurate. They suggested it but also the language they use is fearful by saying “you could get infection” so its best to admit you. Remember women always have the option to decline anything. Including the IV that they gave you. I also had a question. Can you opt out of getting the vaccines and shots at the hospital? Thanks!

Hi Alex! Well it didn’t seem like I had an option. My dr suggested I go to the ER to check if my water had broken bc I could run a risk of infection. I followed that instruction and once I got there they said they had to take me in. I understand I can decline everything, but sometimes things don’t seem like you have an option :( especially when you don’t understand what risks you can be facing if you decline. On that note, I don’t know about opting out the vaccines. Everything they do here seems like there’s no way out. I remember that for the ear exam I didn’t want them to take the baby yet because I had a breastfeeding specialist come to the room to help me latch the baby. And they kept pressuring me saying that the ear exam needed to happen and needed to happen. So yeah Idk :( sorry if this is not helpful
