Been enjoying your vids and ive been playing quarm as a brand new player to EQ. Have a barbarian warrior named Vaezon and dark elf magician Barenziah. Still pretty low, just below 10 but been enjoying checking out the zones im able to go to and just the vibe of the ambience as well.

I just found Quarm after rolling a barb shaman on p1999 a few weeks ago. After seeing a few vids like yours, I decided to move over to Quarm with another barb shaman 😂. Thanks for putting this out there!

From my experience playing Phinny Agnarr and another TLP server that I can't remember the name of it was always a rush to end game. I stopped playing TLPs bc I would just get so burnt out trying to rush my character to max as quick as possible to do end game content on era with my guild. That's what I like about project quarm is that things don't really feel like I need to rush to max bc there is plenty of time between each expansion to get to max and have tons of time to raid in era.

I would try Quarm but I don't want to go back to dealing with corpse runs, no maps, and stuff like that. The biggest thing which sours me on "old" non-TLP EQ. I barely was able to enjoy Oakwynd (even though it went too fast)

Awesome video, of the many EQ content creators I subscribe to, you’re one of my favorite. I have mixed feelings on the TLPs. I have downloaded Quarm and have a level 5 enchanter but don’t really have enough time to play (or on Teek for that matter, my ench on there is 28). That being said I love both experiences. I’ve played on P99 and quite a few TLPs to this point. My first run on EQ was shortly before velious launched in 2000 and I played up until GoD. It was incredible but I agree that the TLPs are kind of a bastardization of the genuine experience but they are unique and fun in their own way, just as original EQ, P99 and Quarm have been for me. Hopefully I get some time and see you on Quarm, Teek or wherever else in Norrath

I just started this(Quarm) with a buddy that I used to play with back in high school. It installed just fine on mine but on his, not so much. During his character creation, the toon is spinning around about 3x as fast and it sort of stutters. The model looks like its about to swing and then never finishes the animation and none of the buttons work. I can't seem to figure out what to do, any ideas?

I feel ya on the Barbarian Warrior. First time playing since the original, that's what I picked, and was shocked how difficult the first 5 levels were and quite a challenge until 18. Thanks for the tip on Zeal, I definitely need 3rd person view because I'm always losing my wife's character, who I group with. FPS sounds like a great improvement too. Joined Quarm because of old friends and am happy with the casual pacing as well as warm community overall.

Velious will launch April 2025, Luclin follows in Jan 2026, and finally Planes of Power in October 2026. So more than 2 years until we get PoP.

That is pretty close to the original release timeframe. I played a little in OG EverQuest and really picked up when RoK released through PoP so this is really a perfect throw back.

I didn't start on QUarm during CLassic because my brain couldn't handle the first person only or bad camera. Kunark released and I found out they fixed their camera issues and now I'm HOOKED. This is the best server I've ever played as far as community and non toxic.

Do you experience in-game lighting flickering? I am. Apparently the solution is to turn off dynamic lighting but doing that apparently makes your personal light sources not work. Did you encounter this lighting issue I am speaking of (flickering)?

Hmm I don't think I've experienced that issue so far. I know the takp client, especially with lighting, can be pretty buggy though.

I agree that I would be more interested in the TLPs if they didn't progress so fast. Not being able to keep up is the #1 reason I don't play them.

The fast turnover of expansions on TLPs is the part I like the least about it and I have been on Oakwynd since it launched. Sometimes we get to the end of an expansion and then some people stop showing up and instead of being easier as the expansion goes around it does not really get easier with people quitting. I'd love 6 months per expansion.

The QoL are nice for sure, but P99 population is pretty much the same, especially with Quarm allowing a second client for people to sit at the tunnel inflating their numbers a bit and a new expansion that just released and brought some people back.

I find the Quarm client worse than P99. The lighting flickering is really bad and I also like how in p99 it gets "pitch black" at night. The lighting overall in p99 is very nice. Then again, there is no poop-socking in Quarm so...

I hope you stick it out. Listening to all your videos. You have a constant theme that you talk about with feeling like you need to play a certain way and worrying about other characters and how they play. I honestly think in time you will age out of feeling that way. That is definitely a young man's mentality. Just focus on you and try not to worry how others play the game.

I tried Quarm, but couldn't get the camera and controls to work like I wanted them to (more like live), even with Zeal. I might be doing something wrong. Also, Team Lucklin.

yeah it's a bit janky compared to live, but a world of difference compared to without zeal

​@@dessius Try without "Old Sens Math" if you haven't, the camera won't lag along with FPS then. You can also change the sensitivity for both the x- and y-axis for both third and first person views individually. Almost better than any other client out there, if only you get it set up right :) There's a list of commands etc. under the Zeal download, and otherwise the great Quarm-guide can also be very helpful with a lot of setup things =)

My only beef is no form of global chat lol is it basically just feels like in playing alone on my local only emu server which the point of me trying quarm out was to be able to talk to others I do love the feel more then I did on any tlp server I hated the feeling rushed to do everything I took a month or 2 off in the summer and when I come back was just like "nah I'm to far behind " and canceled my sub oh and 1 more beef lol the utter lack of guilds there's like only 5 and 28/30 people I tend to see in a zone are untagged so if I don't like the guild I'm in I'm just kind of stuck lol

I did try Quarm but didn't enjoy it. The game is unfriendly to newcomers and geared towards the tweeked or fully buffed player. Example: newbie zones have spawn rates at 60 seconds or less giving you no time to rest between fights and having to break the camp on every fight. The economy is way out of control with simple gear with barely any stats will run you into the thousand of platinum. High level players are camping low level zones so good luck getting anything quest done. Not a fun place to be.

Been a long time p99 player who has also taken a break from EQ and Ive been trying to get into Quarm but there is something about the server that just feels off and I cant quite figure it out... There's a certain level of jank with the client where textures can flicker or certain mob types dont work properly, the database and pathing seems off leaving the world feeling a bit sparse and watching mobs take unusual paths can be frustrating. Ive also found I rarely interact with other PCs since they are all in higher levels and its quite difficult to get groups around the lower range since a lot of folks tend to solo on their min maxed troll with rubicite armor which makes the social aspect feel empty...I guess its an unfair comparison to make between a server that has had 10+ years of polish vs a year old server but yeah I have a hard time with it in general

So far Quarm seem more well cared for than P99 so I'd say give it some time and hopefully those problems will be solved, personally I decided to stick to P99 because Quarm felt a bit too custom as a new-ish EQ player.

I personally was gutted to learn about the lighting jankiness in Quarm. The lighting in P99 is one thing that makes it so cool. Carrying torches during your lower levels illuminating the dark really makes you feel like you are on an adventure. I don't know why Quarm's lighting is so janky and not as dark as P99 but it really is so much worse. I think the fog and draw distance is also way more janky in Quarm compared to p99. But Quarm has no poop socking....ugh

@@The-Logic-Wizard The rates actually go up by a LOT in Luclin. They're only low now because of the era. Luclin introduces several multiplier increases to ZEMs, as does Velious.

Not on Quarm no. They do allow you to have a mule account though that can trade in the tunnel.
