Giving the 1988 Monte Carlo some shine with Poppy’s Patina

The original paint on this 1988 Monte Carlo SS is fully of cracks. In attempt to save the original paint and to avoid a costly repaint I applied Poppy’s Patina. I applied it using different methods and I’ll talk about what worked and didn’t work. I have not picked up a spray gun in aver a decade and this is the first time spaying with an HVLP gun so total amateur status!

Seems to be holding up really well. I will be posting another video of the car shortly. I still need to do more sanding and polishing on the car to make it better but unfortunately winter came early and I’ll have to wait until spring to work on it and post another video.

I applaud your efforts. That mid/ late 80s paint was garbage. No compatabity between primer, color, clear coat. Actually a 'silent' recall from GM. Had a 87 monte LS. loved it but from paint to interior parts disenergrating. Shame was a great cruiser.

Thank you. Yeah the paints were terrible. A new paint job would be nice but not in the budget at this time. I figured I’d try this and see how it holds up. I know others have the same issue and wanted to try to do an unbiased video to hopefully help others out too.
