Unleash Your Twin Cam 103's Potential With A New Cam Set

When it comes to the Twin Cam 103, not everyone wants or needs a big bore kit, but when a stage 1 isn't enough it's time for a cams swap. Choosing the right cam will take full advantage of your stock components and still be easy on the valvetrain. Cams allow you to target the areas you ride most and put the power where you want it. The right cam can increase your power potential up to 100 horsepower with the right exhaust and a proper tune at a fraction of the cost of a full stage kit.

I’m a H-D master mechanic with 27 yrs. Experience. I run the fueling 543 “freeway flyer” cams in my 95” TC. In my humble opinion these are the best street cams you can put in your Twin Cam. Look up the specs and I think you’ll agree! They supply the torque and horsepower where most people ACTUALLY ride and need it

After thirty years and 250,000 miles riding Harley Davidson motorcycles I made the switch to BMWs. Loved my HDs, terrific bikes, I just wanted a different riding experience. I do wished I would have hung on to one of them as I miss the Harley experience. This channel has rekindled my interest in reacquiring a Big Twin, and I'm off to look at a 2013 low-mile Road King in the morning. I'll keep all 3 'Beemers', and with the addition of FLHR, I'm thinking I'll have my bases covered. Thank you for helping me decide on the 103 ci GixerFoo - and yes, I'll be installing the Wood TW222 cam as per your suggestion. Owning and riding a Harley Davidson is fun, and I am looking forward to doing it all over again.

I put cyclorama 570-2 cams I'm my 2012 streetglide I bought new. Replaced everything in cam chest at 56k. 98.7 h.p. 116 ftlbs of tourque. Vance and Hines pipes. Great tune. 31 degrees of timing. Had to put in screaming eagle clutch with heavy spring. Didn't touch the top end. It's amazing. Good manners down low and nuts going up top. Valve springs rattle if you lug it. Still uses very little oil. Would like to do better valve springs. It's running so good I don't want to mess with it. Oh screaming eagle cam plate and oil pump. Better oil pressure now. So I did the Woods 222 cams, 26000 miles 2015 road king. Replaced the cam tensioners, INSTALLED screeming eagle cam bearings, fueling racing lifters, rocker lockers. EXISTING V&H FP3 . V&H sent me a custom tune. Runs awesome. Just swapped out the big city thunder QQ baffles for the monster baffles. More logical for my bike as the QQ baffles do not fit the correct way in my duel exhaust. Going to have it Dino tuned for 400.00 and call it good. Also got the legend rear shocks and axeo front cartridges. OH MY GOD. Power and comfort. The bike I dreamed of getting the first time I bought it. There was wear on the cam tensioners. Also the Manufacturer put the lifters in backward, the oil slot was facing the wrong way on one head. Way to go, Harley Davidson.

Checkout the S&S MR 103 cam. I had this installed 2 weeks ago in the easy-start gear drive version. Originally the bike made 70hp a massive 40% increase in power from a stock 103cu with the right cam change...

I was happy to see you focus on TQ and how and what you ride. A cam increases power but more importantly, it shapes power to your riding style. I have S&S 551 cams in my 2013 ultra limited because I almost always ride with a passenger and with all three bags stuffed to capacity. It's not rev-happy but my TQ is over 100 before 2,000 RPMs and carries all the way out to over 4,000. I ride a 2015 Road glide special. I bought it from Classic HD of Reading Pa. As the story goes...one of the owners had the bike built up for a "tail of the dragon" ride he wanted to go on. Beside a bunch of other upgrades, as the story goes, it has Andrews 57 cams installed. More apparent, it had a D&D 2 into 1 and a Performance machine freeflow intake...and I it was tuned (and I still have) the orange (outlawed) HD tuner it was tuned with originally and I also have a V&H fuelpak 3 that I bought to make adjustments to the tune when I made a change. The bike, as purchased, was insanely loud at first. I bought the quiet baffle from D&D but that only quieted in down so much. With the original baffle, it will easily peg the speedometer ...pulling hard all the way. With the quiet (louvered) baffle, it will hit 120 but it takes a bit longer ( I have a 3 mile strip of smooth highway I test it out on a few times per week in the summer)... My only complaint about the cam is that it's tougher to ride slow and I think it makes the bike loud (I've changed the pipes to a complete V&H dual system but that only decreased the power but it was still loud). With the perforated baffle it screams, it's plenty strong with the louvered baffle too...but it's still really loud. Is there a way to make a 103 quiet but pretty powerful and nice to ride at slower cruising speeds. I love my bikes power. It'll run with nearly anything but it's loud and a choppy when I'd like to go slow and quiet.

GixxerFoo, I'm glad you made this video. I have a 2016 103HO, and I've been contemplating swapping out the cam chest. I've put close to 40,000 mile on it. It hammers pretty good, and if you need to evade, pass, etc... you can grab a gear and hammer on it. It has a great rpm range. I'm just looking to give my bike some more practical torque, and horsepower without compromising reliability, rather, increased intervals of maintenance. If you've built "hot rod" bikes you know what I mean. I was thinking of the SE585, the only one for my bike by SE, or Fueling's 543, or 574, or the 525 kit. But, since watching your video I think I'll nichs the SE cam. For me they're mostly on par, yeah you gain a little, but the cost outweighs the benefit. You're not getting enough bang for your buck. The Fueling kits are nice and cheaper than S&S kits. I'm not knocking S&S by any means. I've been a customer of theirs many times. One reason I'm considering Fueling is that they give you a cam description as to how it will function, and its rpm range. The same can be said about the whole kit. That's helpful information. S&S's website, their product description doesn't go in depth like Fueling. I don't think S&S regularly maintains their website, or they want you to go to a dealer. Your mileage may vary. Then again, I just may eat crow, and have the local Harley dealer install the SE585, SE tappets, the SE cam plate and oil pump, SE adjustable push rods, etc... It depends on how thirsty I am to swap out the cam chest. Regardless of whether I do it myself or let the dealer do it, I have to get the ECM programmed at the dealer. I don't have the software, or else I'd do it. By the way, If you know of an alternate way to adjust my ECM let me know. Best Regards,

I chose the S&S MR103 easy start cams, a .585 lift, the MR stands for medium range. It seems to be a good match. The advisor at S&S assured me I don't need to change anything like valve springs or port and polish the heads($950 for that!). The dynamometer showed 98hp at 110 lbs of torque, not bad. I think people overlook S&S due to them being so well known and probably think they are too old school and conservative. There R&D probably is top notch and are truly a proven company. I also changed to an S&S cam plate and oil pump setup, and have the V&H FP3 tuner.

For touring bikes the Wood TW-555 or the TW-777 are excellent choices, high torque and great horsepower. The TW-555 is a good choice if your keeping the heads stock and just running pipes, air cleaner and a good tune. Now TW-777 is a better option if you plan on doing some head work and bumping compression later on. Both cams are a straight bolt in so you won't have to worry about valve springs or anything else.

Like he said how are you going to ride your bike and what kind of bike do you have. That zipper would be great for a touring bike but maybe not for your dyna Street hooligan so do the resurgence before you pick how you tune and let someone sell you something you're not going to like. There are many who will try to get you to buy something that doesn't fit your style of riding so do your own research then you can talk to friends dealer or tuner and have some idea if they are telling you the truth.

You gotta read that fine print too, some are cams are designed for a heavy touring bike. You stick that in a light Dyna and it's gonna suck bad!

Well I made a appointment with my Harley dealer last week and they ordered me the wood TW 222 cam and the rest of the stuff I needed. I drop the bike off tomorrow, their working on it Tuesday and I’ll be picking it up Wednesday. I will give you a report after I ride it a bit.

I like those 525's, they are easy on the valve train and they put the power right were we ride the most on the street.

Cams can really produce some power, a lot of times that's all anyone needs.
