Before the 40's blue and pink weren't for boys and girls respectively (actually, I've read that some people considered blue as more suitable for girls and pink for boys). I guess what they were trying to say is that that division was very big in the 40's, 50's and 60's but started to loosen up in the 70's (tho the 50's dress they show IS blue jaja).

It's also incorrect. Flour sack and feed sack material is what was most commonly used for homemade garments for girls. (Potato sacks got used too.) Feed and flour mills actually started producing packaging with cute patterns, because they knew that mothers were using them to make clothes. Parents would actually try to buy multiple bags of flour (or feed) with the same pattern just to get enough material for one dress. Times were hard for everyone, and I assure you and everyone else commenting on this video's ridiculous usage of Shirley Temple as a fashion icon and a dress made out of a sheer fabric that would've been outrageously expensive, that boys were not the only ones who got clothing made out of something unconventional. Everyone did.
