James Parker Sculpture

3 жыл бұрын

I'm James Parker, a sculpture artist sculpting a glass egg by shaping and stacking broken glass. This video shows the complete process. Find out where the glass sculpture I made in this video ended up!
This KZbin video covers cutting glass circles and curves for this glass sculpture - A GLASS EGG for EASTER 2020. I discuss the theory behind glass cutting and why I use the methods I do and also give a practical demonstration as I prepare for my latest glass art project. I sculpt a glass egg by stacking those pieces which I've shaped and a share with you where the sculpture found it's way to following an earlier video.
Welcome to my KZbin channel. I work in a variety of mediums including slate, bronze, stone, wood, metal and glass. Checkout my other videos!
This is part two of the process where I discuss what's involved and how I came to work with glass as a medium in my career as a professional artist. The plan is to have the sculpture completed in time for Easter Sunday 2020 (next week!).
This sculpture will be made over the course of a week, during which time I'll aim to put a few videos out...this is part 2.

Watching the process of James making this egg 1 year ago I was fascinated by the process and blown away at the finished result. I am now the proud owner of Creation and it has an amazing quality of appearing to be lit from within and in sunlight it is mesmerising. James is a genius.

As I was watching this video, my mind starts to go places of the , either impossible or too difficult, place and I was mulling to myself, how great a slate piece would be of a horse or a horses head. Thanks James. Really enjoyed your explanations. Your sense of your work is dynamic and insightful. Love the way it is a beautiful sculptural form but also a means to play with light. That you create beauty out of ‘scraps’ is wonderful too. Do you remember the plastic bag dancing in the wind in the film American Beauty? And the symbolism of the egg adds another layer again. So pleased it found an owner who understands and appreciates your work and your gift.

What a beautiful piece of art! Really love how the light reflects in all those layers. 😍 Seeing you making this glass ornament makes me think about the huge glass layered ornament that stands in my city Zwolle, the Netherlands. Maybe you've heard about it. It's the archangel Michaël. It stands in the city centre. The glass were it's made out of stands as a square in front of the hospital. You can clearly see the contour of the angel cut out of it. Maybe also an idea for you? So you have a positive and a negative sculpture? I put the wiki page link down below. It's in Dutch, hopefully it will translate to English. nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glazen_Engel

Nice video James. However I have to be truthful - and positive I hope you will appreciate. Great channel. Fabulous creations from someone with a vivid and creative thinking brain. However to retain a successful YT channel one has to regularly produce original vids. I am aware that is perhaps not from your your list of life's priorities. Difficult I appreciate in a busy working environment. However the old story - do it right or do not do it at all. I look forward to seeing more of you beautiful works of art. A beacon of light in a world that many folk are finding difficult. Cheers from East Kilbride.

Thanks Douglas. I'm sorry about this. I've been struggling to keep up to be honest. The first video had over 200k views with lots of questions, where the egg finished up? Do I fix the pieces together? Why don't I use oil? I felt it would be good to answer these questions which I did in this video. I did mention in the description and the title that we were looking at the Egg 1 year on. Sorry if you felt short changed. I did reuse old content though and will wait until I do something different until I think of making another video for YT. Taken onboard! Best wishes James
