Thank you for all the great information. I tried the free version of Deadline and I'm really amazed at the possibilities. Now it's just a tad ridiculous what you need to go through to actually buy it. The process is not automated, you need to get an e-mail from a representative, so if you need to implement the solution on the same day, just forget it. Go with something else. Still waiting my representative get in touch. It's a shame such a good product have a 1990's sales structure.

@GlassHandFilms

Each node needs to have a Redshift licnese as well as a C4D commandline license. Both of these can be obtained from Maxon. You may need to email their support to purchase the commandline license.

I love both. GPU rendering is very exciting and I see both engines with their advantages/disadvantages and completely different from one another. To be honest, it just comes down to what project works best with each tool. I will try to cover both equally on this channel. Cheers :D

Using a Redshift Proxy over just submitting a Cinema 4d file does this allow for faster rendering or what would the advantage be?
@redness2323
@redness2323 5 жыл бұрын
Would like to know myself. Seems like it just takes up more hard drive space with those sequences. Can't see how it would be faster. Once the project is loaded on all machines, it doesn't have to reload for each frame again.

I know this comment is a year old, but the advantage is licenses. If you submit a C4D (or 3dsMax or whatever), then each node wil require a license for that software (C4D) + the renderer (i.e. Redshift). If you submit Redshift Proxies, you just need Redshift. So if you're doing this over tons of nodes (think 20+) then, of course, it will be cheaper to not have to both licenses.

Great video, thank you! I was wondering is there a way to render redshift proxy through Deadline with more than just the standard AOVs? Or it needs to go through the c4d? Thanks!
@GlassHandFilms
@GlassHandFilms 2 жыл бұрын
You can create custom AOVs in redshift. Once you open the AOV manager you can write them directly to disk. When you load the Redshift proxies into deadline, c4d should be out of the equation. You can send jobs straight from c4d but you need to buy render node licenses from Maxon by sending them an email. I hope that helps

Great video! I've heard that Deadline can be used assign different frames to different GPU's on the same node. It often isn't efficient to have 3 or 4 GPU's working on the same frame so splitting your GPU's would speed things up. Have you done this?
@GlassHandFilms

I have my workstation with 4 gpu and a gaming pc with 2 gpu (all 2080ti) do you think it's worth setting up deadline to get my gaming pc as a slave? Or should I use team render since I don't have many slaves? Do you experience many problems / crashes / failed renders with deadline? Thank you!
@GlassHandFilms
@GlassHandFilms 4 жыл бұрын
This is a great question. I would say what you have going now sounds very manageable. Once you start adding new computers, I would say Deadline will become invaluable to you. The worst problem you could have with render management is not knowing why your render crashed. Deadline keeps logs and you can see exactly what happened and why. I've been using Deadline for several years with multiple applications, and it's the most reliable software I've ever used. :) I hope that helps! Cheers

I have it set, and running, but i keep running into black images when the renders are complete, and i know its a tex folder issue, any help?
@GlassHandFilms
@GlassHandFilms Жыл бұрын
I would make sure that your paths are absolute and exactly the same for each workstation. Don't allow C4D to copy textures to the project tex folder. In my opinion that's never a good idea because it creates duplicates of files and does not include the proper directory with the images.
@edcreg

@@GlassHandFilms Do i need to do this in that one specific C4D file? I already have the same file paths set on both machine in the C4D Preferences

@@edcreg yes I would go to window>project asset inspector and make sure that every texture is referenced to the full file path. For example something like D:/clients/animation/textures/noise.jpg

@@GlassHandFilms Got that, did that, now the issue is the other node is rendering without the textures, it's not black, it's just on clay mode (note there are only two machines on the node at the moment, as i have had to disconnect the others to figure this out.

Could you talk about how to manage your 3D sources? like HDRI? OBJ files? Assets? Material Maps ? how could you organize them? thx
@GlassHandFilms
@GlassHandFilms 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, so think of the repository as a absolute path on your hard drive (NAS, or Server) that all the computers can access. There is no need to copy over or create new directories. Just make sure your Deadline Monitor, slaves, and database, know exactly where the repository is. For example: "Z:\NasFiles\ClientWork\" This is where you store all of your scene files and your slave computers are intelligent to know this is where to look for the assets. If you want to submit a job to Deadline from the Cinema 4D plugin and create a new scene and gather your assets, a checkbox is available to you on the plugin panel. Then it will be stored in "Z:\NasFiles\Repository\jobs\" Let me know if this makes sense. Please download Deadline and try it for yourself. Watch their tutorials on their channel, read the documentation, then watch my video again and everything should make perfect sense :) Cheers!

Hey, nice vid very helpfull. Would it be possible to submit jobs using a single R21 (incl redshift) subscription or do the slaves also need active C4D + redshift licenses?
@GlassHandFilms
@GlassHandFilms 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there! With R21, I've noticed with the subscription licensing it can get a little hairy. Each slave node wants a C4D license linked to your Maxon account. I believe you can reach out to Maxon to get a render slave license, but I haven't looked into it personally. At work we use R20. You will also need Redshift licenses. You can also just submit redshift jobs only, taking C4D out of the equation using "RS" files. Hope that helps! Cheers!
@weclome
@weclome 4 жыл бұрын
@@GlassHandFilms With the 'redshift jobs' do you think different version of redshift will work? (still got a node locked license but thinking about adding the R21 subscription. Would be nice if these two redshift versions accept each other in deadline) Thx for the quick reply!
@GlassHandFilms
@GlassHandFilms 4 жыл бұрын
@@weclome yep, if you are using similar builds of redshift you will be okay. Sometimes I've submitted 3.0 jobs and accidentally didn't update some of the slaves and they rendered okay. Dependant on the scene, of course.
