I put wax mistakes back on the shelf with the next bisque firing. I've never had much luck with techniques like sanding, washing, any kind of rubbing process to recover a wax over run, drip, etc. Just re-bisque fire the piece and you're back to a fresh piece to work with.

Is it possible to make your own glaze? I know they often get their colors from minerals, but how is the glaze itself made?

Jerry Whidby yes it’s very possibly. Mix glaze components in dry form. There’s chemistry tables that help you create a glaze that actually works.

A wax (comercial name 'wax resist') that repells water/glaze. Beeswax will harder too fast to be able to work with it. Some people use latex instead.

Buena suerte.

I found a excellent source for hardwood ash on mr dirtfarmer. It is free of all debris and is a fine powder perfect for making your own glazes. There are some good books on amazon for making glazes. If I am eating and drinking from something I want to know it is a natural safe product.

That's interesting that graphite Burns off in the kiln, but many crucibles are made out of graphite.
@PeppoMusic
@PeppoMusic 4 жыл бұрын
Those graphite crucibles are not fully made out of graphite, but are technically fired pottery with a lot of graphite in them. Pencil marks are just graphite powder sitting atop the surface. Powder is easy to ignite, something that's mixed and solid is not.

I love this style, but i think it's too technical for me. If i was to make pottery that i wanted to sell in a professional sense i think this is perfect. I just prefer a more raw element of a handmade product. I heard a saying once when i was learning to crochet and they said "If there are mistakes, that's okay. That's the beauty of a handmade craft."
