what a wonderful song ... Flowers of Scotland was the anthem of my wife who just died on September 23, 2021 at the age of 44 from triple negative cancer, my darling was everything to me, she French by origin Scottish of a Scottish mother and a French father, and I French of Moroccan origin, she was an extraordinary person, the kind of person who will comfort people when she was at 59 chemotherapy treatments in inhuman suffering, she left with this song ... Scotland had become a bit my country too ... you people of Scotland you are my brothers, Christine I love you, you were everything for me !! ♥ ️

the funniest part of it is the fact it's a Scottish nationalist song, a very beautiful song about Scottish pride in repelling the yoke of English rule, yet it's sung so proudly by so called Scottish nationalist, it's basically like the loyalist in Northern Ireland singing the republics anthem haha 😂 kind of shows them for what they are really, that being English wannabe peasants, with absolutely no idea of the word patriotism. sad but true unfortunately 😞

@@k-popfan7758 No they weren't, if they were, they wouldn't have left Scotland, the people who left Scotland were either those who did so to better their economic opportunities or were shipped out because they were hardcore convicts and banished criminals. You're far more likely just another 100% Yank Doodle whose far distant ancestors were actually outlaw reivers who didn't consider themselves either Scottish or English and lived in the buffer zone as farmers and cattle raiders between the two kingdoms on the borderlands adjacent to 'The Debatable lands' - named so because it was neither under the jurisdiction of the Kingdoms of Scotland or England, and was as such rife in crime such as arson, murder and robbery as you'd expect. The reivers even attacked Scottish as well as English across the border as each ventured close by, it was a lawless place with horrendous conditions, and when James VI of Scots took over the English throne in 1603 (and Ireland by extension as Ireland was a papal possession of the kingdom of England), he sought to bring an end to the reivers and eradicate it, the ones who were not executed for the more serious crimes were deported as stateless criminals into Ulster in Northern Ireland, and their distant descendents in turn went to America (early YankeeLand) and became the Yankee outlaws and cattle rustlers and essentially became the reivers of America, and like the reivers of Britain before them, they did not subscribe to national identity so much as clan names - a bit like the modern Yank Doodles of America today who deny their American ethnicity/nationality and American heritage and now laughably claim to be Scottish LOL, when they are not, never were and never will be. Not even the British outlaw reivers identified with native nationality. And the native Yankee Doodle tribes of Northern America (which yes, were 'native' by that point) cowboy outlaws and cattle rustlers who carried on the reiver criminal ways, also fought against royalty, against the united British (which was the United Kingdoms of Scotland and England) to establish the USA by 1776, and after the war of 1812 and the subsequent Treaty of Ghent, they went on to encroach on more and more Amerindian lands as Americans to steal more of their land to built their nation of the USA on after the British had left.

Scotland is actually more Germanic than anything ultimately. Also this mystic bond thing some Irish seem to have with Scotland is more with Glasgow Celtic fans (largely a result of the 19th century Irish who fled from the Irish famine) who link Ireland to Scotland as part of their artificially constructed identity and see themselves as Irish more than anything but claim to be Scottish when convient, but they are only about 4% of the Scottish population. While the Ulstermen on the other side of the sea, seem to have more of an affinity with Scotland than with Eire (Southern Ireland) despite being on the same island.

I am visiting Scotland for the first time in my life this year to visit family headstones. My great grandfather left Scotland in the early 20th century for Canada, eventually settling in the United States in search of new opportunities. My family still has his original documents of immigration. Our family name is still in the registry of the 12 clans, pledging service to Clan Gunn at the start of the millennium shortly after settling in Scotland from Denmark and Sweden. At the start of the 19th century, my distant great grandfather and his brothers become matchmakers (Swanson Wooden match sticks) and remained in the profession until our family immigrated, after not having found success in Canada with the trade. I have never been to Scotland and was not born there, but still feel a connection with it. It consists of majority of my DNA structure, as I’m sure most Americans feel the same way about their native lands.

Aye, I do with my Irish Ancestry, I'm from New England state of Maine and I never went to Ireland before but I want to go see our family alleged Castle that my Irish Nobility Ancestors had. The story of how we lost the nobility is indeed interesting, so idk exactly what period of time it happened in, my guess is middle ages or possibly 14 to 17 century, my Ancestors was Nobility in Ireland at the time and owned a decent sized castle, they had African slaves, well apparently their daughter fell in love with a Slave and ran off n married him! Despite her family's objection to it, she chose to do so regardless, they told her if you do it, you will never inherit anything from us, she didn't care because her slave lover was all she wanted, and that's how we didn't inherit the wealth or nobility. I'd love to see where in Ireland it is at and see the land, oh yea and Lizzy Borden is my Legitimate Ancestor too!! My mother's mother was a Borden who's father n uncle I believe was cousins to Lizzy.

Ex US Marine here, we had a Scottish instructor when we were in England. 5 ft 7 with a scar down his forehead to his lower left cheek. Came up to me and a buddy and said in his thick Scottish accent and not in proper English " I'd rather have a bullet hit me than a sword thrown down my face" slapped me on the back then came back with two beers and just walked away... To this day I always chuckle at that and I 100% believe he had a sword to his face. Crazy Scots. Love them

O flower of Scotland When will we see your like again That fought and died for Your wee bit hill and glen And stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward Tae think again The hills are bare now And autumn leaves lie thick and still O'er land that is lost now Which those so dearly held And stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward Tae think again Those days are passed now And in the past they must remain But we can still rise now And be the nation again That stood against him Proud Edward's army And sent him homeward Tae think again
