Stumbled on this whilst idly trawling during another boring lockdown day In Thailand. Ended up watching the whole damn thing completely enthralled. Used to fly a standard 15 metre Cirrus 75 in Kenya back in the '90s and this brought it all back. Maybe I'm wrong but looked like you might have a preference for left hand thermalling (?) - I was always more comfortable with right hand turns in thermals. Shouldn't be any difference but found it difficult to break the one direction thermalling bad habit - maybe something to do with the strong and narrow thermals we had to find quick off the top of our 1,200 foot winch launches. Great commentary on this video - plan to take in one a day until lockdown's done !

One tip I was taught by a jet jockey to avoid pilot induced pitch changes during fast final glides in turbulence was to put both hands on the stick, one above the other, I was sceptical but I found it worked and surprised how much of the pitch in turbulance was caused by involuntary movement of my limbs.
@erikisberg38865 жыл бұрын
Got the same tip from my aerobatics instructor. It really improved my flying in turbulence and under shifting g loads as well. Supposed to decrease risk of high speed flutter in gliders as well.

Why are there no VTOL gliders? Ducted fans in wings and fuselage for vertical acent and descent only. Travel through soaring. No airport needed? Right? is it weight difference from RC? Different Physics?

What if you got falling wind-sheer? What I can’t understand is why airplanes has short wing spans if they had longer wingspans they wouldn’t need to panic each time the engine stopped and they’d need less power too I think the drag is compensated by the security of wider wings

Placement for antennas for the FLARM are tricky in a carbon-fibre ship as the hull blocks the signal. There was an article in the last issue of "Free Flight" from the Soaring Association of Canada. See www.sac.ca/index.php/en/free-flight-magazine-2/2010s/2019-free-flight-vol-libre I wonder if that's contributing to some of those aircraft not showing up? I'm surprised the Caravan did not cause an alarm. Maybe you're not picking up Mode-C from below? I really enjoyed your commentary with your decision making process, especially as I'm hoping to be ready to start some cross-country training in 2020. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Bruno! How are you doing?? I Hope you & your Family are All Healthy & Strong during the Pandemic situation. I have revisited your Videos to get some "peace" in my mind, as the Skies sure seem to Offer that. (I'm a City Bus Driver in Vancouver, BC🇨🇦, region & doing Good, so far providing essential travel for the public & Essential Workers). I was wondering if you are back in the Skies this 2020 season?? I noticed some postings a couple months ago, but not sure if they're re-postings. Although, i doubt you are Soaring at Winter season. I Do Wish to ask you, if i may: As you are Soaring you often "tweek" the levers on your left side for the Wings Configuration. To get a Further & Better Understanding, are you able to do some sort of a Split Screen / or, if you Do this the Wings do That ??? I sort of understand the Commercial Airliners, when one sees the Slats and/or Flaps Extending or Retracting. However, on your Glider these Must appear MUCH Differently, in Comparison. I mean, i suspect your Glider necessarily has a Leading Slats Edge(???); Nor, a Trailing Flaps Edge(????), Although you have some sort of Horizontal Controls for controlling the Flight. I was hoping you could take a few moments to Show these Functions ??? As well, at a Particular Wing Setting you preference, would it be for Climbing Altitude Capabilities?? ; Speed Preferences?? ; to do your "Loops" (sometimes), what do you need Settings at ??? Approaching for Landing & During Landings, as i see you activate a "Spoiler" of sorts??? I was Hoping you could show us these Functions & How they Operate & their Importance for your Flight Safety. I Believe this will give us Viewers a Much More Better Appreciation for why you are making what seemingly appear as Minimal Adjustments to these levers. I also suspect that a 1 Inch adjustment you appear to be making, Equates to a Much More Significant Adjustment to the Actual Wing Transformation???? Bruno, Thank You for Understanding my Question. If Anyone can do such a video as this, Bruno Can!! Your Calm Voice & Demeanor is what we all need during these Strange Virus Times. God Bless Always!! Sincerely, Robert
@BrunoVassel4 жыл бұрын
Hello Robert! Some great questions! In gliders we are always trying to minimize drag so many high performance gliders have flaps that go positive. This means they go up and not just downward like in airplanes. These positive flap settings are used as we increase airspeed to lower the lift (and therefore drag) on the wings. You would think planes would have the same thing for maximizing cruise but for some reason they do not. If you want to know why you can just do a google search. Gliders do NOT have any kind of leading slats. Thanks for watching my videos and I hope to do a full flaps video sometime soon. I haven't started flying my glider yet in 2020 but hope to start soon. Cheers!
