Anything that long at that altitude is no joke, gravel or not. Thanks for sharing your SBT GRVL experience, especially those moments when the doubts start to creep in and you found a way to keep pedaling -- it really does inspire all of us mere mortals to get out there and attempt the things that appear impossible. I fought cramps for almost 60 miles before I had to back out at mile 116 of 150 at Gravel Worlds yesterday in Lincoln Nebraska. I'm up at 4am local watching this thanks to not sleeping well after the effort. Amazing timing for the video.
@better.better2 жыл бұрын
do they groom these roads for the race? maybe put down finer-grade gravel? the guys in the top 10 are doing 22 mph which seems impossible based on the gravel roads I've experienced here in upstate New York. scrubbing through the footage it does look a lot better than I'm used to mostly dirt road and not so much gravel, and the ones that were actually gravel look pretty compressed and not so many large loose stones that you can't get any traction on. it's hard to judge how representative the footage is considering they probably wouldn't be able to use any footage on the type of gravel roads I'm used to. you wouldn't be able to hear Manon talk for the sound of the stones under the tires hitting the frame of the UTV they're filming from

That's great for the rest of us humans! 2. Did you think your bike wasn't going to get dusty / muddy / filthy? 3. Pink valve stems and flashy fingernails (13:28)! Nice! Gloves for a gravel race might not have been a bad idea. 4. Your description of grasshoppers as "little birds" was hilarious; your focus on pickles was disturbing 5. Your description of hitting the wall was spot on, and was weirdly reassuring to the rest of us. You're right! When you're tired, every bump makes you angry! 6. This was a great video; a real story about real people doing real things! Great production values too. I am a bit surprised that Manon had such a hard time, she is essentially a professional cyclist, it should not have been that difficult. I think it was probably a combination of the heat, and the altitude. In an ideal world she should have done training rides in Colorado for a week or two before the event to get acclimated. She is also more accustomed to making left turns on a glass smooth track for short periods of time. I recently did a hilly 110 mile ride and I felt just like her - it was the heat, that can really do you in! BTW, pickles are for the sodium.

i can so closely relate to your suffering and so proud of you for still making it till the End Manon. A bow to your tremendous effort. Am paddling these days in the southern France, where my will to finish a ride yesterday came to halt because of the soaring heat upto 37°C, mountains my legs are not built for and a furious horse and 2 dogs on loose. It takes more than just strong legs to finish any such ride and you have got it in plenty within you. Have you ever thought of everesting like Olie? Best Wishes and keep inspiring!

Nothing about this effort that shouldn't be celebrated. Well done, Manon, we loved watching this and watching you succeed yet again in being Manon.

Great fun to watch Manon fight, push through, suffer, curse, giggle and nearly cry, BUT SHE FINISHED, SO CHAPEAU TO HER!!! Great Spirit, Manon

Wow, what an incredible achievement! Congratulations to you and all those other riders who did SBT GRVL. I've ridden some of those roads myself, and I can attest to how hard it can be. 9200 ft of climbing! At altitude! Amazing!
