"An idiot or a bastard:" Putin rips Canada House speaker who invited Nazi veteran to Parliament

Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered scathing remarks on Thursday over a standing ovation in Canada's Parliament last month for a Ukrainian war veteran who served with the Nazis in the Second World War, calling it "absolutely disgusting."
"If he [former Canadian House Speaker Anthony Rota] does not know that during World War Two, it was Hitler and his minions who fought against Russians, then he is an idiot... But if he knows...and calls him a hero of Ukraine and a hero of Canada, then he's a bastard."
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau formally apologized days after the story broke, calling it a "deeply embarrassing" mistake, and the Speaker of the House, Anthony Rota, resigned over the incident.

You need to differentiate between Nazi and German Soldier. Its a big difference. For the most part only Wehrmacht soldiers, i.e. German soldiers, took part in D Day. The 12th SS Panzer Division, i.e. Nazis, were stationed behind the landing and attacked the Allies after the landing.

It's not a matter of being smart. It's politics. The west did not condemn Russian people for the invasion of Ukraine but rather it's leadership. The logic is very simple: you can't attack a nation as this can be an invaluable asset in the war against their elites so one needs to corrupt and culturally convert them in order to be used against the establishment. From this it can be deducted clearly that both wars are being fight between elites of different nations. It has nothing to do with justice freedom democracy equality etc. It's all about power and brainwashing the masses.

I am an old man and my father fought Nazis starting from the first day of their invasion in 1941. My home town was under Germans and we all know what Nazis and their SS divisions were about. Do not take this shameful case of the standing ovation in Parliament as something outstanding. Thousands of those war criminals who voluntarily joined the Waffen SS divisions and killed Jewish, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian civilians, after the WW2 found a nice and peaceful home in Canada. They established their organizations ( f.e. OUN and UPA), promoting their Nazi leaders (S.Bandera, Shukhevich, ets.) into the national heroes, they have a lot of community centers with the prominent people to advance their interests. I think this is the reason why this embarrassment had place.

As a Canadian I am NOT ashamed for us. I am furious at our prime minister and at the idiocy of our government. This was not acceptable. A lot of things that are not acceptable are going on in this country. But as a Canadian citizen we have no say in it. Mr Putin is absolutely right. You can say this event was a mistake but it’s a mistake that should never have happened. Zelensky shouldn’t even have come to Canada in the first place but that a whole other issue. We need a new government. One that cares about its own country and knows what they are doing.

To be honest, I always knew that Canada became a refuge for many Ukrainian Nazis who fought on the side of Hitler and managed to escape. It's also sad that the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada is quite large and is instilling in Canadian society the rehabilitation of Ukrainian Nazism during the Second World War. I am sure that nationalist-minded Ukrainians have been telling Canadians for years that the Ukrainian nationalists, the SS, who fought against the Red Army are not Nazis, but simply freedom fighters. It's a lie. Most Ukrainians fought in the Red Army against these henchmen of Hitler. But I'm glad to see your comment, it gives me hope. I don't know how many Canadians agree with the minister's speech.

I would like to remember the battle of Ortona (Italy) where 1300 Canadians fought and died against the divisions Nazis. In this city a monument called "Heroes' Square" was erected to remember the sacrifice of these Canadian boys. - On your comment, the responsibility of the Vatican or others in helping the Nazi-fascists escape from Europe is too complex a discussion to explain in a simple comment on YT-Greetings from Italy-

@@Sergio-ur9qn Yes but Italy was not 'liberated' as they were not occupied, they were allied with Hitler's reigeme. I am British and my Grandfather fought alongside Canadians when they first entered Sicily, the Italians and Germans first fought them there before they retreated to the mainland, they then regrouped so the allies had to then enter the mainland and fight them all over again. Previous to this italy was involved in the fighting in the north Africa campaign . So my point is that yes the Canadians made great sacrifice as did the other allies but your comments are somehow suggesting that Italy was a victim in this when infact they were one of the aggressors and killed many of the Canadians and other allies. I commented on this as when I went to Rome I visited a museum and found a book on display there written by an Italian in Africa, the display was describing the British holding them in "prison camps" making out they were some how victimised when in reality Italy Was In the region as they had invaded British Somaliland and western Egypt, again I saw another display regarding a Franciscan monk that I mentioned before which described him as helping Jews whilst on the eastern front, I found this strange so looked into it and found that he served on the eastern front in the army with the Nazis so was infact not helping at all, and I saw many other examples of this false history including a whole museum to the "liberation". It's very insulting to the real victims of this war for Italy to try to turn round and deny their part in it
