This is very helpful to a 9 year old (and his mom). I feel like you clearly explained the broad strokes of phrasing/dynamics which is so hard for young ones to really hear and understand. I’m sure it’s helpful to older and more experienced players too. We now have clear markers to make each phrase it’s own. I wish we had this kind of video for everything! Thank you so so much.

I love Saint-Saens. And the #GlobalOdeToJoy. I can't wait to get on this piece. I took up Bach's first suite again about a week ago, and I'm half way through the prelude. I also have an upcoming performance.

Hi Inbal, wonderful masterclass! That has to be the most awesome sounding cello I've heard. I have been asked to help a student (not mine, and at short notice) with this piece for their cello competition. If I am not super confident in guiding them should I still take the offer to help them, for the experience? Thanks

Hi Meny, thanks very much. Regarding your question it’s a tough one.. if you played the piece yourself you will have ideas on what works and what doesn’t even if you don’t have a lot of experience teaching. The fact that someone asked you to help shows they believe in your ability. With time you will learn what helps one student and doesn’t help another. It is up to the Student to decide which advice they accept and or reject and the older they are they should be able to think for themselves so the responsibility is not only on you. @@yahelfelipe Hi, I think it makes things "smoother" sounding. I usually shoot my vlogs with my DPA cello mic, which I feel gives it a more direct sound. With these mics the sound is perhaps more refined, also, because they are positioned about 3 feet away, as opposed to the DPA which sits on the cello strings.

@@Inbalsegev Very interesting, I think the dpa is the best option for live performances, I've tried some of those on outside live stages and works just great, but for studio or recording purposes maybe a great pair of cardioids like those neumann you have are a better option. But I am still looking for that stereo pair that doesnt add color ( trying to understand the smooth thing) to the sound.
