I have a Gen 2 model 22. The mags went bad about 5 years ago. Glock replaced them at no charge. No problems since. It’s my go to battle gun. Love it.

Appreciate the follow-up video. I just bought the Glock 20 gen 5 and was wondering if there was a quality issue based on your first video. Not typical for a Glock to malfunction 3 times so we'll blame it on the magazines. It comes with 3 and mine are 15 round capacity, should be good to go.

@@smarte861 Good to hear. I am wondering though if the Gen 5 is less tolerant with weakened mag springs compared to the older Gen 4 and earlier? The earlier Glocks seemed to be engineered to run reliably even when things were less than optimal in the gun. That'd be a concern of mine until we see longer term testing of the Gen 5. Until then, I''ll stick with Gen 4s.

Yes, Hickok, your videos influence people. Notice how there are far fewer views on the correction video. That’s just how it works. Tens of thousands have been walking around thinking that the Glock 20 or 10mm might be slightly less reliable, based on your first video, which shows repeated malfunctions caused by your old magazines.

I had a very reliable gun that started having failures like the ones in part one. The failures were frequent and happened in all four magazines. Cartridge would partially load and the gun was out of battery. I replaced all the springs in the magazines. I have not had a failure since the change out. I’m still proving it in because my failure rate was much higher than the Gen 5 in the first video but I am regaining confidence in this firearm. Bad magazines are a real potential root cause of failure.

What Generation were you having these problems with? And yeah, weak mag springs due to long term over compression is a universal issue for all semi-auto guns.

It's interesting, at 6:55 you tap the magazine like the folks did back in wartime (& in movies) on their helmet to seat the bullets. You see that in Saving Private Ryan & other common war movies.

I remember the best hollow point load for the 1911 from back in the 80's. That would have been the Speer 200 grain JHP, aka: the flying ash can. Stubby bullet with a gaping maw of a hollow cavity, designed for expansion in the era of poorly expanding JHP's. If it did not expand, at least it would act as a large caliber truncated cone load. Feed reliability was an issue, especially with GI style barrel feed ramps and magazines. Bad magazines are the bane of any semi-auto pistol.

You're not making any excuses! it's true a lot of people don't know that with the spring tension depending on whether it's let's say a 11lb guide rod and you're using a higher grain ammo that can sometimes cause malfunctions (at least from what I've been told)

Definitely a Gpock lover. My everyday carry pistol is a G330S, because I can count on it to go BANG everytime I pull (squeeze) the trigger! That and i love the .45acp round in 200gr full copper HP, it just plain works for that application. Love your channel!

I am a G21 EDC, and a G17 MOS range guy. That being said, when buying a 10mm I went all Metal, RIA HC with 17 rounds of 10mm with 220 grain Hard Cast for my off road adventures. If you are not shooting Buffalo Bore or Underwood Ammo 10mm, your’e shooting 40 “Smith and Wesson” S&W “Soft and Weak. “ Out of a box of 20, with these I probably bounce five primers, that’s good ammo.

Love that laugh when you hit a 2ltr (just for example) it makes me happy shooting reactive targets too! And you're smart enough to have an uplola! Gadgets like that just makes your life a bit easier. I don't think it was anything you did that created the hang-up, sometimes you get an underpowered cartridge (it happens) what matters most is ability to rectify the problem, & get up and running afterward. Sometimes i recreate a stoppage just to practice those essential skills!

I have several generations of 15 round Glock 20 mags. Some of the springs were weak right out of the box. Could feel the difference by pushing down on them with your fingers. Those would make malfunctions in both the 20 and the 29. Aftermarket springs and the issue went away. The springs were obviously lighter and flimsier outside of the tube. Easily distinguished.

I was actually planning on buying a gen 5 20 this weekend. After watching this, not really convinced they're as reliable as Gen 4. Also the extra gap in the slide for ambidextrous release is just more opportunities for grit to get in there. Maybe the Gen4 is still better.

@@davidinoklahoma5627 I have the G40. Never had a problem even with full speed ammo. The longer slide calms the recoil down quite a bit. No joke, I was shooting and hitting a 1 foot x 1 foot rock at 191 yards last weekend. It's like a rifle in a pistol. Comes stock with the 4.5lb trigger also. I don't think there is a better 10mm. Watch the Gun Penguin's review of it. He sums it up pretty well.

I have seen other KZbinr reviews (ahem Chuke) of this pistol and they initially had issues with malfunctions--until they actually cleaned the gun--then it ran flawlessly. Hickok, knowing your fondness for Ballistol, I assume that you actually cleaned it instead of just shooting it right out of the box. ;) (I agree with others in this feed, a Chapter 3 should be in order because the gun should be backwards-compatible with all G20 mags...)

I'm kind of considering picking one of these up. I can't decide between a Glock or a RIA 1911 in 10mm. I already have a Glock 22 (I believe) in .40, and a S&W 610, but I feel like I need to have a decent semi in 10mm as well.

@@randydiabolo exactly if you're just looking for something in that caliber but you don't have to have it be a Glock then I would go with the cheaper option especially if it's a Rock Island they are very impressive for the money. I hear they have a great customer service and warranty department as well not that Glock does it but I haven't heard anything bad about our I like I have about Glock or Beretta or even Sig CS.

I've had old mags wear out to where spring didn't have enough guts to consistently feed ammo. They don't last for ever if you use them a lot.

My only malfunction from a Glock was because I put a tougher recoil spring in for hot defense ammo. I forgot to switch it out before using softer practice ammo. So it had moments of not completely cycling.

I had a problem with the slide not always staying back after shooting the last round on my 19 y/o G30. I tried new mag springs and followers with no luck. New mags solved the problem.

Don't know why but Glock 10 mm magazines springs are soft. Chamged mine out with extra power springs. Likewise, the Gen 5 seems to have a lttle more recoil spring than Gen 4 and 3. I'm sure that Gen 5 will run everything fine on out.

@Hickok45 in part 1 video did you clean the Glock prior to the video? I know Glock should shoot right outta the box but the Glock manual highly recommended you clean before use. Another KZbinr I watch ran into the same issue you experienced.

It always seems to be UW 200gr ammo Sig S&W and Glock all seem to have feed/mag issues according to KZbinrs. I wonder if there is something like a OAL/Magazine/Recoil issue? The 200gr cartridges sits funny in the mag to begin with. Maybe the recoil causes the mag spring to be slightly obstructed by the OAL of of the Maxxed out HP round? Physics right. That said Springfield Guys have not reported any issues that i have seen yet. Maybe mag design? I Don't Know? My own Glocks 20+40 gen 4s have never failed to cycle anything,so far,even my own 200gr handloads. UW 200gr may just be to hot for the original theory/pistol designs. Someone should get to the bottom of this and expand on this great cartridge. I'd hate to see the 'firearms' kill the caliber again. I also wanna thank Glock for Saving the 10mm. I know from 30 years experience and thousands of rounds that it was not the guns fault. I think we are still learnig the Full Potential/ Limitations of this Cartridge. Physics right. !0mm is the Best mm

I know this is too late, but it might have been a little more scientific if you would have had a couple of the older mags to see if they did jam. Then you could say with a little more certainty that the issue were the mags and not the Glock.

Load some Hornady 180 gr. HAP with 7.3 grains of CFE-Pistol. My M&P 10 loves it and never had a failure to feed with stock components.

Anecdotally, I’ve had a Glock 20 Gen 5 for a couple years. Run very little got ammo through it. Any of the 10mm ammo available seems good quality. I’ve also tun it with a Wolf brand 6” barrel. Not one jam or hiccup… ever. Was my favorite shooting weapon… till I got my CZ Shadow 2 😂

Ive noticed very conical ammo (like Hornady) after re-cycling a cartridge just a few times the bullet gets jammed into the casing deeper…seems to happen on most my guns but definitely compacts more and I have 4? Manufacturers. I bring it up to shops or others but everyone just looks at me like I’m stupid. I’ve seen a couple forums but no changes in designs. A more rounded cartridge works fine for many re-cycles but every hard angled bullet gets jammed deeper into casing…for mine

That’s a common issue. I don’t recall ever having any issues out of ammo that had been scrunched up like that. Also the hornady having that almost rubberized nose makes them more likely to get shortened by cycling. Just keep your feed ramps polished , that’s about all you can do.
