Hi Hickok45. I just wanted to chime in regarding what you said about consequences of shooting a 357 SIG out of a barrel/pistol chambered 40 S&W. Actually happened to me. I rented a SIG P229 at a local range and requested the 357 SIG chambering. Employee reached and picked up the pistol that was in the spot for the 357 SIG and sent me to the range. I got to my assigned stall, loaded the mag with 10 rounds, flew my target out to around the 12 yard mark, closed the action, sighted, and fired. I knew something was out of sorts as the recoil was very soft, the blast was more of a ‘pop’, and the slide did not even cycle. Instinctively, I tapped the mag and racked the slide. Once I squeezed off another round, the exact same results. I began to worry, so I immediately dropped the mag, racked the slide, and set the pistol down facing downrange, action open. I noticed a spent casing on the bench in front of where you would stand, and once I picked it up, saw that it was in fact a 357 SIG casing, but the bottle neck was blown straight (now resembling a 40 S&W casing). I became extremely worried and was fearing that the pistol was ruined and it would be on me. I immediately went to the RSO (who was always there to help me with tips and ideas, or even have me try his pistols), and I told him what happened. Immediately he opened the action, looked at the barrel and said, “Well geez…”. He asked if I was OK, told me not to worry, and sent me back to exchange the pistol: They gave me a P229 chambered in 40 S&W by accident, someone had switched their spots in the case! They were glad everything was OK, apologized profusely, refunded my range fee, and issued a complimentary box of reload 357 SIG ammo. As I went to finish my session, the RSO followed me in. I showed him the paper target I was shooting at. It had rips in it opposed to round holes. He said that was because the rounds were tumbling their way out of the barrel; think of the difference between shooting a spitball out of a straw versus out of a toilet paper tube. He told me again he was glad I went immediately to him, and I responded by saying that I hoped the pistol wasn’t damaged. He said: “The pistol can be fixed, it’s not a big deal. I’m glad YOU are alright!”

Since you asked about cartridge mismatch in Glocks. I have personally ( by accident, was handed a 9mm mag and did not look at it, my fault, I know ) fired a 9x19 through a Glock 23. The 9x19 did go off as you speculated the 357 would, it was held just enough by the extractor for the pin to hit the primer. It made a very reduced sound, bit like a small firecracker. The 9mm bullet was completely "fired" out of the barrel. The slide did not move at all and upon removing the casing we saw that it was flared out at the end. There was no damage to the bore or chamber, we loaded it with the correct ammo and continued to use it for the rest of the range session and it is still functioning to this day without any problems. The 9x19 was winchester white box and the G23 was a gen 3. ( I am fully aware of how dangerous this situation could have been, so ye need not attempt to "educate" =]. )

GREAT review! I have a few pals in the Secret Service that choose .357Sig as their service weapon caliber. Most carry the Sig Sauer P226. It is a snappy round, but the weight of the P226 helps tame the muzzle flip.

A Glock 32 Gen 3 was my primary carry weapon for years. Recently replaced it with a Glock 32 Gen 4 to get the adjustable backstrap and some night sights. The new spring does remove a little of the recoil...but I think a adjustable backstraps help, too. When reloading, it is important to not let the shoulder get too high...that will cause feeding problems. It is a high velocity round with great penetration. Another nice option out there is a Glock 35 with an aftermarket 357 SIG barrel.

Look, I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but .357 SIG is the nastiest semi-auto handgun caliber on the market. The full size G31 makes quick work of this round. The G32, pictured here, is the perfect gun, albeit a little snappy on the muzzle flip. I do not recommend a G33, as the gun is next to impossible to control without pinkie extensions. If you have to carry subcompact, carry a G27 or G30.

***** Yup, he sure did "pwn me", didn't he? I don't have to justify my thoughts, as I've actually shot this weapon in both Gen 3 and 4. You don't think it's snappy? Go rent one at the range, and compare it to a 19 and a 23. As far as "looking cool", here some thoughts for you...now pay attention and take notes. Based on what I can see on your profile, I question whether you even belong in this conversation. I've owned over 30 Glocks in my lifetime, including my very first Glock 22 (2nd generation), all the way up to the Glock 40 I just ordered. While I may be nowhere near as good of a shot as Hickok (seriously, who is?), I consider my firearms knowledge, especially in handguns, to be on par with his. You, on the other hand, have a furry as your profile pic, and your channel banner...really? Are you even old enough to legally purchase a handgun?

I have reloaded rounds that shoot like a 9mm and ones that hurt your hands shooting them (all within published load data). Much respect for the 357 sig round...I shoot the 40 S&W very little now and only shoot the sig, 45, and 9mm mostly at the range.

whiskey ridge , You said it. I carry g31 for open carry and g33 for my back up. You can hide from a 45 but not from the 357.

Sounds interesting, except you still have the big 10mm / .45 ACP slide and frame size. I like those guns, but for carry and practical use, I much prefer the .40 / 9mm / .357 Sig size slide and frame.

If you own a 32, you can have three calibers, .357, .40 and 9mm with barrel swaps and a 9mm mag swap.

Thank you for showing some love towards the 357sig. I carry mine everyday on duty and off.. it is a little more expensive to run however I do not mind. I also run 91 octane fuel in my blazer that runs just fine on 87 just a matter of preference. Thanks again for yet ANOTHER awesome review.

+hickok45 thank you for your reply. I wanted to get a Glock 23, but if I can get the glock 32 and buy the barrel to use .40s&w it will be the same thing.

+hickok45 I have the Glock 20 with a .40 conversion barrel. I was disappointed that the .40 mags won't work with the glock 20. I would really like to be able to have a 30 round magazine.

+CORONAKAIZOKU1 The followers are slightly different in that .357 Sig magazines will work with either .357 or .40 but .40 magazines need the followers changed out to the Sigs if you want 100% factory reliability. When compared side by side you will see the difference right away.

+Rick Stamper thanks for the information. I think I may just end up getting a Glock 23. Instead then. .357 sig is a more expensive and harder to find round where I am. And .40s&w is almost as abundant as the 9mm.

You can't go wrong with either one. I tried both when I was looking for a .45. The HK was very nice, but I shot the Glock a little better due to my preference for that trigger. I own 2 Gen 4 Glocks and I've had 0 failures with either of them. You have nothing to worry about there. You're also unlikely to find many people who would warn you against HK. Try them both and go with whichever works better for you.

It's actually suggested by many firearms manufacturers that you rack the slide. This prevents the slide lock from wearing down, and eventually failing to lock.

I didn't know a lot about the caliber, but I think it's a great choice! If you can shoot 10mm, why not step up from .40 to 357 Sig for carry? They're all big, but if you can handle the width this is a fantastic caliber!

My guess is that it was hard to hit with. Lots of blast and a bit snappy unless one shoots a great deal. As I point out in the video, I think it's more of a gun for someone who is a pretty serious shooter.
