This is my first video of yours I’ve seen, however, I love several different aspects. Idk if this is your consistent format or not. However, I love the wide variety of ammo you use for each caliber, you show the box specs and real world specs of each round, you show the chrono footage and the close up recoil footage. Your commentary is informative and direct. Well done sir. Two great pistols and two great cartridges compared splendidly! 👍 🍻

When I’m out in Wyoming or Montana up in the Mountains I carry a S&W 500 4’ But I wouldn’t mind a 10mm I just don’t need a 10mm however I know people who carry a 10mm. So this is a nice video 👍

That’s an impressive amount of different ammo which is appreciated. Seems like the chrono readings are measuring much lower than what they should be. I measured Sig’s 10mm 180gr load at 1260FPS using a Glock 40, which is very close to Sig’s spec. The same for the Federal Fusion. Maybe your chrono isn’t calibrated? Then again, some of the .45 ammo measured dead on manufacture’s spec. Can there really be that much variation from manufacture’s spec to reality? If so, they are deceiving their customers.

Excellent video !! Sequencially great presentation, very instructive and informative. I also would pick the 10mm for walking trails where larger or dangerous game may cross my path. One alternative to the .45 or 45 +P is the 45 Super; its cases are dimmensionally identical to the standard 45 auto but with a hotter charge and much stronger cases. I chronographed some Underwood 255 grains hard cast at 1080 fps, advertised velocity is 1075. It's a very potent load for the woods. Starline makes the brass and it's excellent. You have to use stronger recoil springs for the Super as well as possibly stronger magazine springs and firing pin spring in the 1911. You mention that you're used to the 1911. If you decided to use one, I would slow down the slide with a flat bottom firing pin stop, creating a better ignition with less escape of gas by slowing down the rear movement of the slide by perhaps one or two thousandth of a second which makes a more efficient, faster shooting cartridge by about 30 to 40 fps. It's important to never shoot a 45 Super load in a standard 45 semi auto that has not had a few improvements done to it such as stronger springs, possibly a buffer ahead of the recoil spring and stronger magazine springs. There are many educational videos on the cartridge. If you're already familiar with it, I apologize for my long post, otherwise either the +P or the Super make good trail guns. The Super being the definite winner in the 45 platform. I have both 10mm and 45 and like both which in my opinion are superb cartridges. I hope to see more of your presentations. Thank you for taking the time to do this very detailed one.

A guy told me a hypothetical home defense scenario you need may need to hit an intruder through your refrigerator. He said a 10mm would definitely go through the refrigerator, out through the front wall of the house, into your neighbors house, and through their refrigerator.
@v.german11b Жыл бұрын
@@diafplox1 The 10mm is way too powerful for urban environments, thus creating a high civil and criminal liability. Shooting intruders hiding behind a refrigerator is not only legally questionable but possibly closer to the chance of winning the lottery.
@diafplox110 ай бұрын
When it comes to an urban environment a proper 10mm setup can be safe and adequate. These model 40s are a different beast tho is my point. I wouldn’t never use my model 40 for home defense. But depending on projectile weight, powder load, barrel length, other 10mms can be very balanced for home defense. A light weight hollow point 10mm dissipates it’s energy and velocity faster than an average 45acp while having more stopping power. Shooting anyone is legally questionable by default, even an intruder.I’d take that lotto chance tho if my life was the prize.

@RidersRange6 ай бұрын
The .45ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) cartridge was designed in 1904 by John Browning to go along with the prototype Colt semi-automatic pistol, which Browning was also developing for the United States military trials. (The pistol was adopted in it's final version by the military in 1911.) In addition to the official cartridge designation of .45ACP, the cartridge has gone by other names, including .45 Auto, .45 Automatic and 11.43x23mm. All of those designations are for the exact same cartridge. But thinking they are different is a common mistake. Thanks for watching.

I would not use a 10mm against bear. There are many reports of 10mm taking the entire mag to kill a bear and there was only 1 or 2 lucky shots that penetrated to the organs. It only take 1 255gr 45cal at 900 fps to stop a bear on its tracks. Maybe 1 more to kill it, but its not charging anymore. Do your research.
@RidersRange2 жыл бұрын
I did my research. There are more bear success stories with the 10mm than there are failures. Ballistically, the 10mm has superior penetration over the .45ACP - with the right ammo.

The answer to your bear question is a 300 win mag, not a handgun.
@RidersRange Жыл бұрын
I don't disagree, though there are many folks who spend time in bear country and for many reasons only pack a handgun. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Those 10mm are pansy loads. All of them. Put a 24lb recoil spring in the 41 and load Starline 45 Super brass with Ramshot Enforcer powder and 230gr coated 451 hard cast. Follow Ramshot's load data. You'll get over 1250fps.

I appreciate your comment. However, only a very small percentage of shooters hand load their own ammo. I tested a variety of over-the-counter ammo, including samples of the most potent ammo I could find.

My video of the G40 shooting both 10mm ammo and .40 ammo over a chronograph will go public this coming week. Thanks for watching.

In 10mm, Federal is notoriously weakened. Their 10mm and 40 S&W loads are practically equal.
@RidersRange Жыл бұрын
Many companies seem to have down-loaded their 10mm to something close to .40S&W velocities. Maybe I should so a side-by-side with a G20 and G22 for velocity comparison.
@danielreid3476 Жыл бұрын
@@RidersRange That would be interesting, particularly if you just used Federal ammo for comparison purposes. I think Federal keeps their 10mm loads on the light side on purpose, and it seems to be across the board with all their 10mm offerings. BTW, your channel is great!

You were using kind of weak ammo for the 10 mm
@RidersRange5 ай бұрын
The Federal and PPU 10mm are on the mild side, but I wouldn't call Underwood or Buffalo Bore 10mm ammo weak.

Most ammo companies seem to have watered down the 10mm. As much as I like my .44 Mag revolvers, I would take the G40 - with the right ammo - over my S&W Model 629. Thanks for watching.

Not good idea shooting hard cast bullets through a Glock barrel
@RidersRange Жыл бұрын
That myth was busted many years ago. Cast bullets won't hurt a Glock barrel any more than any other bullets will. It's my understanding that Glock added that warning as a legal protection against substandard reloaded ammo. But thanks for watching and commenting.

@@RidersRange Agree to disagree, And you are incorrect, And it’s concerning that you are promoting misinformation and subjecting yourself to a potential lawsuit from Glock by putting it out there on a public forum 🤦♂️

@Marshall Felter, I appreciate the discussion and your concern. My reply didn't contain anything that hasn't been on the Internet in many, many articles, posts and forums for a couple decades. And busting that myth has been well documented by more than just the armchair "experts".
