GLORIOUS | Animatic

You and I, we're never gonna rest...
This is an animatic i developed for my storyboard class these past months!
It's a little rough around the edges due to the limited time we had to make it, but i enjoyed it nonetheless. The characters, story and art belong to me and have mostly been developed for this little music video. Enjoy!

I think Future Milo got caught in the time machine exploding and got sent back in time without his control (and also likely wasn't able to save Finnegan as well) and ended up going back decades and he spent the entire time planning for this day to come so he could stop his young self from getting caught in the explosion and perhaps fix the time machine so he could return to where he belongs. Future Milo holding Present Milo back briefly could've been what saved him from getting caught in the explosion. The reason Future Milo disappears at the end is likely due to Present Milo not getting sent back in time to complete the loop, the change in history made it to where there was no reason for him to exist there. He likely knew this could happen, which was why he wanted to fix the time machine so he could go back home, but Present Milo and Finn destroying it is what seals his fate, which is very damn sad.

Looks like Elder Milo actually lost his partner in that accident and is hellbent on fixing the time machine to honour his friend before he too dies. Young Milo, however, is bent on saving him instead of chasing his dream. So in a way, Elder Milo didn't happen. The misery of losing his friend never happened because he never died. Milo rejected his dreams of fame and fortune and chose companionship instead. They built that damn machine together, they'll do more together instead of turning solitary misery into obsession.

I agree with your interpretation! Its a very subtle visual storytelling moment that you can really only see in a brief moment when the old and young milo interact, but it makes for such a complex and nuanced take on the story without a single word spoken, fully relying on their body language and expression.

My question is what made him change this time? Even with his older self trying to stop himself, he saved his friend.

@@SnackCakes Yeah its not really show here. You could say that he saw how the old self is still miserable clinging to trauma. But instead we just see the natural reaction that anyone in this situation would have, get stubborn and rush for help. Perhaps we are just shown the two different outcomes, and are left to decide for ourselfs what each of them mean.

@Wheat Could've been the first try from Elder Milo. Sometimes, all it takes is one variable to change a timeline. Knowing Milo, he saw how horribly miserable he was without his friend and decided he didn't want that future. He can make another time machine, can't make another weasel. Elder Milo wanted to continue this cycle of misery where he stops young Milo, weasel dies, Milo spends his days fixated on the time machine, fixes it and goes back to stop his younger self from chasing after weasel, etc. He even says "you'll die," and that may be true because we don't know what happens in the time between. Maybe war strikes and the only reason Elder Milo is alive is because the enemy wanted his time machine and only he could fix it. Maybe some plague or natural disaster happens and Elder Milo was frantically working to find a point in time where the machine could be fixed beforehand so it could be avoided. Either way, Milo knew that whatever future he had wasn't worth it if weasel wasn't there.

You know, after watching this I kept wondering why the old coot would travel back in time in the first place to disrupt the continuum. I don’t think it’s possible he also received the journal in his younger years as well based on the story. To me, there are two possibilities: One, there was something about his work that he hadn’t finished yet. It’s plausible, but he obviously managed to create *some* kind of time machine. Or, he was stuck there somehow, never finishing making the travel two-way, which is a cool concept. Or, two: he went back to visit his younger self during the accident so he could provide some comfort and hope for what he believed was an inevitable tragedy. I imagine when his friend died, it sent him into a pitfall because he had no one there for him at the time. Eventually, his death propelled him to set to work building it, but it left a huge scar in his heart. Perhaps when he got old, and finished the machine, he decided *he* could be there for himself. But, obviously, things turned out differently with him there. Tragically ironic. Anyway, nice video!

I was confused at first as to why future Milo seemed saddened or upset when he saw the picture, but I think it's because he realized that fixing the time machine wasn't important in restoring his friendship, saving his friend was all that mattered. He let his dreams get in between himself and the person he cared about and he's distraught that he was so blind about something that was eating away at him for most of his life

Theory (SPOILERS): Since no one's commented about it in detail yet (at least that I've seen), the older goat is the younger goat from the future! (Or at least I think they are, unless I've horribly misinterpreted this) I'm guessing the older goat came from a future where he abandoned the weasel, or the weasel died, and he's come back to try and protect his younger self from the time machine exploding. However, the younger goat goes against his wishes, and goes to help the weasel. In the old goat's timeline he probably abandoned the weasel, but now that his younger self is going back to help him he's effectively changed the entire timeline. This would explain why the older goat was glitching at the end- the timeline he's from was erased when his younger self made the decision to save the weasel unlike him. (I could be very wrong on this but this is my best interpretation^^)

I think he was trying to tell his younger self to take the schematics and finish the machine later to save the weasel. But the young goat got a different idea, and decided to do the saving now. They abandoned the "successful" idea but kept each other.

This was so beautiful. Watching their friendship grow, watching them chase their dreams, watching it almost all fall apart, and then come back together full force. This was amazing!! I feel bad for the end, but it makes me want to know more 👀Wonderful pacing, the movement in the characters, 0:45 and 3:22 were my favorite parts as the energy of the song and the setting just really hit.

I remember this song, haven't heard it in years. Rock Dog was a major part of my childhood, rewatched that movie so many times. This animatic was so well done, and just reignited my old hyperfixation too

Many people buried it in criticism. I think they have a point, its not perfect and could've had a more consistant theme. But its still a very nice movie. Interesting visuals, catchy music, entertaning characters, and a very inspirational story. Im really glad this is the song they decided to use for the animatic.

Me too. I watched this as a kid back in 2017 it inspired me to become both musician and animator and it became part of my childhood. I'm kinda sad it got a lot of hate despite the fact I enjoy it, but you what I say 'fuck the critics' 'cause sometimes it frustates me that people don't understand what to enjoy or not. I'm currently planning in practicing the piano and try to aninate on Krita but I'm not doing it because I feel this is not the right moment for me. I'm going to become 18 in two weeks and when my time comes, I'll finally fuffill my dream. PS, love the animatic by the way. This is giving even more inspiration to become an animator. Hopefully I can do it till the end of the year 'cause I'm doing it on my own WITHOUT college because I find a waste of time for me and my life. Love the story and animation style ❤

Your life is not mine, but if you will allow me to a bit annoying for a sec, i wanted to say that waiting for the "right time" is actually kinda not what you want to do. Learning a skill is like painting a wall with a bad brush. Even if you brush the entire wall as fast as you can, not all paint is going to stick, so you will have to do a second pass. You will be re-teaching yourself alot of skills you thought you already learned again and again because the brain is weird like that. And the sooner you start the easier it will be to pick up again later. And i say "pick up later", because burnout and loss of focus is inevitable and you will have months of motivation followed by months of disinterest and burnout. So yeah. Good luck with your animation or music aspirations. But you gotta start NOW man! There wont ever be THE RIGHT time or THE RIGHT tool, you got all you need right now. And even if you wont make it, remember that its okay if a thing you like just stays a hobby while you have another field of work, i have to bounce back and forth between music and programming to stay afloat. And sorry for the wall of text. Its just that find this kind of pattern of thinking familiar, becasue i also went through it when i was 18 (now 23). And it hits too close to home.

I literally just found out about Rock Dog like 3 Weeks ago scrolling through random tv channels in a Hotel in Manzanillo Mexico it was Rock Dog 2 I believe I am from the United States and I don't think it was ever available to watch in the theater's or it had a very very bad advertising but weirdly enough I think when I saw it on the TV I kinda recognized the song from somewhere maybe but I actually recognized the dad the most since he looked way too familiar in some furry art I followed. when I got home I watched Rock Dog 1 and then Rock Dog 2 and the newest one Rock Dog 3 I talked about it to some of my friends and one of them who is from Australia (I think it had more advertising there) was like oh yeah that movie was so good and I agreed I love the soundtrack to the second one and its my personal favorite movie in the trilogy and I hope a fourth movie comes out.

That was incredible. It's interesting how the old goat waited till the time machine would blow up to give his younger self the answers, and he even tried to stop him from going to save his friend. But the kid rejected that and ended up invalidating the future he was from... I do wonder why the old goat waited so long when he could have tried preventing this. Strange. Glithy, I’m not going to lie, this is the single most beautifully constructed video I’ve ever seen in a long long time. It felt nostalgic, both with music choice and themes pursued that it gives it a warm feeling encapsulating the heart throughout. This is beautiful! I love the timing and the scene compositions, how you can really feel the motion. The bits with Milo and Finnegan spinning around in the air were especially cool. All the expressions are great, really make you feel for the characters. I also appreciate the use of animal species I don't often see in OC animatics, and I love the character designs, especially the old goat. I remember these characters from some of your other videos, it's so cool to learn more about their story and see what the theme of clocks is all about. I really want to know more... what happened between Milo and Finnegan after the events of this video, what the old goat is trying to prevent. Can't wait to see what you make next!

This is genuinely beautiful! The expressions and dynamic motions paired with the music really make the emotions hit hard. Sometimes animatics can be a bit difficult to follow along with due to the limited frames, but I could understand what was happening for each moment. If I understood correctly, the timeline had to go a different route, this means that something changed and the future from where the old man came from is now gone. The thing about "time travel" is you first need to answer "the reason paradox" knowing any existence of entities that would literally be yourself but a different age represents an inevitability, and this outcome can never be changed. Part of why a certain television series featuring robots sent from the future to the past became so popular is because your watching a movie without knowing what happened but knowing who won. This was so revolutionary, though the second one did the whole "special morph robot" thing to "raise the stakes" but still, you knew who won. Think about it, to watch a feature length movie where your watching effectively a history of events without a narrator.

Ahhhh! This is definitely one of the best animatics I've ever seen!! It flows so well, it has a very steady and good pace and it all just a joy to look at!! I love the way you draw your characters too! It's also quite wholesome which was quite nice to see done so well. Also wants to see how the story unfolds, because I know there definitely is something fishy amidst the friendship and smiles. Muehehe! Fantastic work though!

Spoiler alert: This is what I have seen from this best animation. 0:42 The old man guided Milo with his eyes, telling him to go that way, and Milo wondered why and what is waiting for him. 2:50 The old man stopped Milo from walking away from the Faun building (because he couldn't save Finnegan in time when he walked further away) and tried to give a book to Milo then said, "You need this!" 2:52 [I personally love this part because it is meaningful from this animation. everything is perfect because it is syncing with the old man's lips, what he does, and the music "Glorious".] The book he trying to give to Milo is the dream to keep up or it will not be going to happen. 2:57 Milo sees the old man's book and realizes that the old man is Milo himself from the future because it's the same book just a bit older. And Milo can see if future-Milo is standing right in front of him that's means future-Milo have done what impossible that Milo thought he couldn't. [future-Milo don't need Milo to stop his dream, future-Milo could help to keep Milo's dream up to go along with Finnegan.] at that moment Milo only sees failure and success between those books. But when the time machine is burst out of unstable energy and destroy the top of the Faun building, Milo is rushing back to save Finnegan. 3:10 The old man didn't actually want to stop Milo from going to save Finnegan. But he also wants to give Milo a completed dream in a handy book. [As you can see future-Milo is glitch after the burst of energy, future-Milo knows he don't have much time. and I think his completed time machine also linked with Milo's time machine. (This could mean completed dream is not going to happen without trying.)] and you can see on the book "Fix it" that's mean future-Milo need Milo to help him back to fix all his mistakes especially Finnegan who always stand by his side, but future-Milo was leave him. he guilty for all his caused, his dream also was kept up by Finnegan and he forgot this. he couldn't complete his dream without Finnegan. So, he needs to make it up to Finnegan. 3:14 Milo don't care about his time machine anymore because Finnegan is the only one who gave his dream, and he needed the most for his life. and they're destroy their time machine together to stop the danger from unstable energy burst. 4:23 Future-Milo walks to the wreck and fell to the ground, shaking and crying with full of happiness and guilty. His blood came out from his nose because his lifetime is about to end. He finally made it in the last few seconds. Since the time machine is destroyed. Milo and Finnegan stopped their time machine project, so there is no time machine in the future, no future-Milo who came across the time machine.
