Wild boar are scary enough, but a supernatural pig would be terrifying. I spent some time on a farm when I was a boy, and although it was an arable farm, they did have a pig. A big, friendly sow. When I stroked her, I could tell she was solid muscle. It felt like she was carved from wood. Wild boar would likely be even tougher, which is probably why they have been feared and respected throughout history.

Thanks for bringing this legend to light; it was really interesting! I raised some pigs when I was in college and I was heartbroken when my father sold them to our local butcher; they responded very well to me, and they were like my babies.

@@mythgreatbritain5634 Ikr? The pigs I cared for always pressed their snouts into my palm as a way of greeting me when I went to see them. I also used to carry them when they were little, but when they grew, well... I couldn't anymore. One of them was a spotted pig, and actually knew how to climb out of the pen! He was always beside me wherever I was, and people always stared at me like I was crazy. My small group of friends didn't know what to do with me when I was crying non-stop after my father sold them to the butcher.

Oh I didn’t know you had this folklore creature in Sweden too. We have the “Gloson” or “Glosoen” or “Gravsoen” in Denmark too.
