Thank you for diving into the hormonal issues behind postpartum weightloss. It took me 4 babies before I REALLY understood that I needed to be patient with my body and focus on my baby instead of my looks. I needed to focus on recovering my strength and health, not my pre-pregnancy clothing size. It's a harsh world and I always had an imagine of what I should look like. I learned my baby doesn't care, my husband understands, and God created me in his image.

@@MultiManono Manons, it's Ashley. Just wanted to THANK YOU for serving as a Doctor. Once i started to prioritize high protein food all my problems went away. Not plant based protein. Meat. eggs. I started to steadily lose weight and keep my supply up. Eating lots of nutrient dense animal foods is so important. 9 months postpartum currently and I’ve been back to my pre- pregnancy weight for a while now. I was eating vegetarian until baby was about 4 months old and I was having so many problems. Introduced meat again for the first time in 18 years and my body is loving it.

This makes sense to me. I had a doctor tell me I should be eating water soluble veggies every two hours after baby. Another doctor told me to eat what I wanted to. Bad advice.

I will want to come back to this comment in the future and I hope it helps others too! Here are the foods Ashley recommends to balance out hormones: - dark leafy greens (at least 1-2 cups per day) - garlic & onions - walnuts & almonds - beans (chickpeas, black beans, pinto beans, lentils) - sweet potatoes & butternut squash - berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries) - free range eggs - free range, grass fed beef - whole wheat bread - oatmeal

I really appreciate you talking about how our first priority post partum needs to be caring for our baby and thus caring for ourselves and our bodies. It's easy to get swept away with how we should be looking post partum based on messages we receive from things like social media. It's easy to get locked onto our appearance and I'd be lying if I said I never felt disappointed or sad for not fitting into my pre pregnancy clothes. Still I think there is something so beautiful about a post partum fitness journey!! Aesthetics aside, we have a chance to do so much for ourselves and our baby by eating foods that nourish us properly, by doing exercises that translates to all the new things our bodies do and give us energy when sleep is lacking. I'm on the post partum plan now and feel so empowered with how I'm becoming stronger!! And while how we look shouldn't necessarily be a priority right now, I still like celebrating my progress in that regard as well. Just as long as we don't confuse shape or aesthetic with health and do whatever it takes to get there, while hurting our bodies in the process.

I am surrounded by women trying to lose weight by this date or this event and the pressure can feel immense. My body feels foreign and I struggle with postpartum anxiety/depression. This video was a reminder of the grace I need to show myself. That my body is for her as much as it is for me and I need to refocus on eating for flourishing rather than losing weight. I have gained more weight and back to my pre pregnancy weight which was 260lbs I was 170lbs and I am 5'7 I don't really look like I weigh 263lbs but I have done meal planning, I stop eating bread and pastas for a months. I also don't have an appetite until around lunch and I don't feel hungry around dinner time which I guess it's cause I get over heated while cooking dinner, so then I'm usually eating after everyone has already ate. I'm so insecure about my body and ate the way I look. I'm also taking 20mg Lexapro. Not sure if it causes weight gain.I'm not on any type of birth control. When I go to my doctor's appointment I sometimes will have an elevated blood pressure like my last BP was 150/99. I had postpartum preeclampsia after I gave birth to my baby. I have searched weight loss plans, I have no energy and I'm not breastfeeding anymore. I just want to go back to a healthy weight and get out of the 200lbs range. Anyone else experience this? I just wanna know I'm not alone and if I can get help.

Thank you for this video Ashley! I’m about to start the 12 week program for the second time! My question is- a lot of women lose body fat on the 12 week program which we know only happens through a calorie deficit. But it sounds like you’re saying not to be in a deficit while nursing. Is a deficit required to lose body fat even while nursing during the 12 week program? Thanks (:
@glowbodypt Жыл бұрын
great question, Maddie. To be clear, you an ONLY lose weight while in a caloric deficit. You absolutely can be in a small caloric deficit and still have a robust milk supply! 100%. What I do not advise is harsh diets or cutting calories to the effect of 500 cals less per day. My intent is for women to have a healthy perspective and not overly count calories or macros while breastfeeding because our bodies simply demand a bit more and it's not the right season in life to only focus on cutting calories without considering what TO EAT to support being healthy overall postpartum. Does this help?

Ashley where do you stand on “caloric splurging”? is it ok to have a splurge day once a week and eat whatever your heart desires (within reason, not like Dwayne Johnson’s)? I feel like this helps me stay on track with my diet throughout the rest of the week. but not sure it’s helpful to my weight loss goals.
@glowbodypt Жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole, I have a dessert every single day. That's what works best for me. I eat pizza every friday and movie as a family- it's something we look forward to. I tend to eat a little less healthy on weekends, and this is quite normal as per socializing and lifestyle (BBQs, sports games, concerts, friends). I'm not a proponent of caloric splurge days myself because it creates a mindset of what can I have vs what can't I have...and kind of a deep lust for wanting what you can't have or have to wait for. It works for some people, it's not something that works for my mentality when I'm in a season of weight loss or maintenance. : )

I lost all the weight really quickly after my 2 pregnancies so I honestly don't eat very healthy... I need to get back in the game. I struggle with rebuilding my muscles after my c-section and I have horrible back pain.
@glowbodypt Жыл бұрын
That's fantastic weight comes off easy for you postpartum - and with both of your babies. I'm tracking your goals now are: 1) Turn on your ABS again post c-section. This is called muscle activation. The abs can get "muscle amnesia" post c-section...they get lazy, posture becomes compromised, back pain ensues, and annoying injuries down the kinetic chain tend to follow. It sounds like you're ready to re-train the neuro-muscular pathways how to fire so you can laser-target your innermost abdominal muscles to get maximum results on your stomach. 2) I imagine *structure* would be very beneficial for you. To just have everything figured out ahead of time so you know exactly what to do, and when, getting the ideal weekly-split so nothing is missed. To go from skinny/soft to a toned and strong body doesn't happen by accident. Having a program figured out for you can triple productivity so you can achieve hypertrophy (muscle growth) so you can really SEE new tone and definition on your body. ---> The 12 Week Post Pregnancy Plan is PERFECT for c-section ab rehab, hypertrophy toning, and only takes 30 min/day 4 days a week. I'd LOVE for you to stay in touch and let me know what it does for you. (if you message me on IG I can also share tons of progress pics from moms just like you who aren't on it to lose fat, but rather target the stomach and earn muscle tone!)

@@glowbodypt yes this is spot on. I was very active pre pregnancy (but rather climbing, running, hiking) but honestly this c-section recovery is kicking my butt. My son is a preemie (4 months old but he came 2.5 months early) so he needs a lot of attention and always naps on me in the wrap. I don't get a lot of time to exercise apart from walking in the park while carrying him. But I have to try because I hate my body in this state. I will try to incorporate your plan into my daily routines. Thanks for your input!

Thank you so much for this. My diet consists of most of the foods you listed, however I continue to have sugar cravings (since pregnancy) and feel many days I am on a blood sugar roller coaster with almost every day around 2-3pm a sugar/chocolate craving. Probably stress related too. I wonder if you have any suggestions for this, if it’s about spacing meals correctly? I was told I was underweight pre-pregnancy and have had so much trouble accepting my weight gain, now I’m probably 40lb over my ideal. Now 14 months pp and still breastfeeding multiple times a day though he is on solids as well. I miss my slim, energized body that could easily go for runs and have regret for letting myself gain so much, but know I can start making changes now. Weight lifting, adding more leafy greens, being kind to myself 🙏

I remember after having my first, being so gutted that breastfeeding wasn't the magic bullet to postpartum weightloss that I had been led to believe. It seemed like everyone was saying "Oh just breastfeed, the weight falls right off!" Um, not for me. I would lose a lot of fluid for the first two weeks, and then not budge a single pound despite my efforts for months to lose the rest. Like you mentioned, I nursed my first two babes for about 11 months, so the prolactin was really in there good lol and I was congratulated on my (non-existent) pregnancy more than once by strangers (and my toddler daughter, who kept saying "Hi!" to the "baby" in my belly for months 🤣) I'm squeezed into my pre-pregnancy clothes now, but I don't anticipate the weight budging much while I continue to nurse :/

AWWE congrats Brittany! The key is to EASE into these foods. You don't need a whole can of beans to get the benefits, break down to smaller servings of those foods for a month and your body will adapt and become LESS gassy. I won't say zero gas. : ) I recommend sauting your spinach instead of eating it raw, like I do in the 10 Minute Plan "Ashley's Go-To Breakfast" -- for some reason cooking eliminates the gas w/ greens for me! You will also benefit from this video in a couple of months when you approach your ideal weight range to prevent GAINING weight while postpartum and still nursing.

Could you make a video to address and suggest ways husbands can help encourage and support their wives? So I really want to help my wife but I dont know how to approach it. My wife gave birth to our first daughter 7 months ago and she plans to breastfeed for I least a year. Between working as a nurse and breastfeeding she is busy. I do my best to support her by taking on more household task, I cook dinner more often throughout the week, and sometimes suggest things we can do outside the house. When it comes to personal health and well-being, I'm at a loss. As a former athlete I know the mindset I have to motivate myself will not resonate with her. So I generally keep my mouth shut or try to reassure her when she expresses issues with her appearance. My wife is beautiful and I love her, yet I feel like I cant help here. I also don't want my suggestions to be miss understood. I just want her to have more confidence in herself. If you have anything to say that could help or correct my perspective, it would be greatly appreciated!
@glowbodypt10 ай бұрын
Andre, it's Ashley. I respect you for having wisdom to approach your wife's lack of care about her nutrition and her fitness with deep compassion and self-controlled sensitivity. Chances are, she already feels quite self-conscious about her body at 7 months postpartum as a breastfeeding mother who isn't currently taking any action-steps to take care of the body that is serving her family so beautifully. --> You as her husband have UNIQUE access to speak into her in a way that no other person ever has, or ever will. Therefore what you say (and what you don't say) can have big consequences. I also believe in strong masculinity and that YOU are responsible for shepherding and guiding your wife, and your home. This doesn't mean you suggest annnnything ever about her being chubby or out of shape. Instead, you provide fun solutions: Hey, I really could use some motivation myself and I was thinking it could be really fun to be accountability partners for eachother. We do a 30 minute workout together during baby's first nap on saturday morning (or whenver the time is good for your weekly schedule). Tons and tons of husbands have done the 12 Week Post Pregancy Plan along WITH their wife as "time together" or they do side-by-side workouts where you do your own thing, and she follows the video. Again, as her husband, you can give her ideas but make it about how it would benefit BOTH OF YOU and not just her.

Katherine, Congratulations to you on your newborn!!! I'm so encouraged to hear you are breastfeeding & understand your diligent concerns w/ mercury from farm-raised fish while on a pescatarian diet. Unfortunately I have not studied *how much is too much* when it comes to soy based products and the effect on a woman's endocrine system postpartum. Thus, it would be professionally irresponsible for me to give you a concrete answer. In your shoes, I'd stick to no more than 2 servings of soy-based protein per day and try to chose less processed options (limiting freezer aisle veggie burgers and other soy-based meat substitutes). Rather, lean into beans and lentils. I hope to be your trainer on the 12 Week Post Pregnancy Plan! I'm confident if you do it for yourself you will be over-the-moon happy you did.

Hello, I have a huge challenge. I am 1 of the very weird people who lose weight during pregnancy. This is my 3rd and I lost about 14kg during pregnancy and stayed at the same weight during pregnancy. After my last 2, I gained all the weight back which I really don't want to do again but I'm concerned that a. Because I didn't actually eat that much daily during pregnancy my calorie needs have lowered significantly. B. I'm also worried because I lost a lot of muscle and the concern is that when this muscle starts to rebuild when I can start exercising, the weight will all come back. What would be your advice for someone who was 25kg overweight before pregnancy, lost 14kg during pregnancy and wants to keep it off or lose more after pregnancy even when my caloric needs have significantly reduced.
@glowbodypt4 ай бұрын
You sure do have unique circumstances and this is what I would do if I were in your shoes right now: 1) Find an RD (Registered Dietican) who specializes in Reverse Dieting specifically -- this is who you need a one on one approach with to get your calories up to a healthy normal level, without ballooning up. Don't go cheap and find a nutritionist or nutrition coach - but an RD, and this will be covered by most insurance providers if the referall comes from your primary care provider / your doctor. 2) Your anxiety or fear surrounding gaining weight when you gain muscle when you get fit again postpartum is unfounded. Yes, it's an emotion and it's really how you feel. But just because someone FEELS something doesn't make it truthfully valid. You adding lean muscle to your body will improve your metabolism tremendously, not hurt it! You gaining muscle will help you burn more calories and burning more calories will burn more fat, creating a leaner healthier build. I'll be here for you postpartum if you get on the 12 Week Post Pregnancy Plan like I follow -- there's nothing else out there that will pour into you and get you results as efficiently as my plan. Congrats babe!

Ugh I feel for you Samantha, not sleeping for so long certainly takes a toll and I've been there babe. 1. Make a list of what you cannot eat (including what baby cannot eat because of BM). 2. Make a list of healthy foods you do enjoy and CAN eat. Like REALLY brainstorm for 10 minutes at the table with a notebook. 3. Now expand your horizons and try ONE new recipe per week including a new food/healthy food that you never eat but you're willing to try. 4. Buy more fresh produce and eat it at snacks DAILY. 5. Exercise 4 days per week and get outside at least 6 days per week. Just 2 hours total per week (and there's 168 hrs in a week) gives you the sleep-deeper benefits you really, really need. Thank you Ashley! Is the advice the same even if your 7 years postpartum?
@glowbodypt Жыл бұрын
Good question! 7 yrs pp with your youngest the pp hormones are past you. Sleep issues should be gone (unless your child has special needs/circumstances). What remains the same is to focus on HIGH nutrient density in your foods like those in the Mom Cookbook and the 10 Minute Plan so that you can effectively reduce your overall caloric intake and not be backlashed by cravings. Women often make the mistake of cutting calorie by skipping meals and fasting... but then get deficient in micro nutrient needs or vitamin needs-- the body responds by inducing strong cravings that you can't resist. Nothing drastic as far as caloric cuts, but CONSISTENT decisions must happen over and over again in order to see change. I need you to watch this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3OVmXxni559l80 and the Q/A here might really benefit you too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moLZY2akf7Kcfc0
