In my opinion, Gears 5 has the best campaign in the series since Gears of War 2 (still the best). The story has some real meat to it, the open world sections and side missions aren't that deep but fun enough to not feel tacked on. They clearly tried new things here, and it works for the most part. The game is absolutely beautiful and feels buttery smooth. It's definitely worth a try, especially since you only need to pay $2 to play it with the game pass. $2!!!!!!!!! This is not a sponsored freaking vid, it's just that good of a deal. I love how they show human civilization. You actually see a city alive where humans are in relative safety. Gears 2 was my favorite before because it felt like you were actually part of something, there were thousands of other gears fighting in operation hollow storm. Gears 1 it was just delta and alpha squad and it felt empty, granted it was a special opps mission. Gears 3 gave you the feeling there was no safe haven because the COG fragmented and everyone went their own way.

Shes technical not a military member, due to the dire circumstances she is allowed to serve because of her knowledge of the outsiders. 2.The cog literally has bigger issues than a rebellious asset, so her getting court martialed is not on cogs top priority list. The COG army does consist of few human soldiers, kinda the reason why Baird designed all the robots. So, their priority isn't a rebellious girl, it's the to repopulate and survive the Swarm. again, only reason why she was allowed to server was because of her ties with out side settlements and because they need anyone who has experience fighting the new threat. The one that should reallly be court martial is JD. He abandoned his post and fought against COG forces. Thats treason, also. While Braid used a prototype weapon to destroy a portion of the locust army, alone killed the locust general at the time. So I mean it's kinda simple why he was let go, he was demoted though. Also my point of realism does apply. Why are you complaining about cogs unrealistic behavior but yet you seem to accept the concept of giant monsters/worms. The thing that makes JD/Del's deaths so powerful, is how sudden and unexpected it is. When watching this for the first time, I was not expecting the game to have that choice be given to you. There have been moments in past Gears games where you did get to choose, but really it didn't do much other than maybe having other collectibles that you had to get on your second attempt. Never has there been a "Save Kaiden/Ashley" choice. Mass Effect was a third person shooter role playing game with choices and decisions. Gears of War was an action third person shooter. A very big difference. Usually a choice like this, out of nowhere, is difficult and not well received. Here, it is so sudden, such a huge jump in speed, that it works.

I saw a video awhile back that said kait was a shitty protagonist because there was nothing to her, but I agree with you. I'm relatively new the gears story so I'm not as attached to Marcus and them, that may be why she's a fine protagonist to me. I don't really see a reason to hate on her, but I feel like people do simply because they want Marcus back.

Didn't care for anywhere the story was took except with the ending chapter. I hate the fact that I'd prefer JD to live so he could further develop his already really creative character arc, but that reaction on Marcus just hits so damn hard in the feels that it seems a great idea to leave as cannon. While on the other hand Del, was so plain static throughout the entire adventure both his life and death seem so insignificant. Maybe they'll pull a Wolfenstein in the third entry of this sequel trilogy and allow you to chose who you let live, but either way hopefully they can develop Del a lot better since the game itself appears so insistent that the player forges a bond with him. (Also felt a whole lotta agenda-pushing, especially when it came to what felt like an out of no where character-assassination of JD, but maybe that's just current-year influence on my part...)
