Just an FYI apparently there was a transmission vent leak on many allison trans applications. They will blow fluid out the vent on the back top of housing on the left side. It's from a little design flaw or poor communication from Allison and the other manufacturers. The dipstick tubes need a vent, or remove the vent on the trans and extend it up higher at firewall etc. Possibly work to drill a hole in dipstick tube. Apparently there's TSB on it and random info in a search.

@@MrSubaru1387 I also know a guy that saved his buddy's life. They had jack a stand let go while doing exhaust work on pavement. The stud of the exhaust clamp punched a hole in his skull above his eye pinning him under the car until my friends dad could get the car off him, he was pretty messed up for a while. Be safe, always double triple check before getting under any vehicle. I no longer use Jack's stands to get under a vehicle, I use chunks of rail road ties & have a couple nice solid oak chunks to use.

Allison trans have two filters. The spin on filter change interval is 30k miles. The internal filter change interval is 100k or during overhaul. Allison contracted with Castrol to develope TransSynd 668 ultimate synthetic atf for Allison transmissions. It's service life is 300k miles compared to dex3 or dex6 trans fluid 30k or 100k intervals respectively.

Is it true that on an Allison trans, that the fluid should be checked while in neutral due to getting a false reading from transmission back pressure? Several videos show the neutral checking level.
@ericmartinez5633 Жыл бұрын
yeah put ebrake on and chaulk back tires. check fluid in neutral and it should be in between the hash marks.
@BW-kv9wj4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t go 50,000 more miles. Do it every 25,000, use Amsoil synthetic ATF and use a PPE red larger Allison filter. Try the PPE trans pan. Will add 4 quarts to your trans. Do all these things and your trans will last a million miles plus.
@GrandPrix464 жыл бұрын
That's a good way to waste a lot of money. He doesn't need a deep pan, and if he did he could get an Allison deep pan for a fraction of the cost of a PPE one. The Allison filter works just fine and is about half the price of a PPE filter, too. If he was working the truck hard it might be worth switching it to Transynd/Mobil Delvac 1, but otherwise the Dex III recommended for it (or Dex VI depending on serial #) will also be fine. These transmissions are bulletproof until you start upping the power, and at that point no fluid, pan, or filter will be able to keep it alive. At stock power it'll already last the life of the truck with regular maintenance.

On my 2007 GMC Sierra 2500, the manual says the operating temperature is between 185 and 210, but your video didn't show the temperature up that high. I also tried to drive to get the temperature up that high, and it only got to about 150 after over 1 hour of driving. I'm not sure what to go by.
@patrickofiara21572 жыл бұрын
A temp of 185 to 210 are the exact specs of your engine coolant temperatures, ome thermostat opens at 185 the 2nd opens at 210. The manual calls for the transmission to be 100 degrees above ambient air temperature outside. Like MrSubaru said just drive 20-30 minutes and you are good to go!
