@@kylejohnson8447 because in "real" Chess you play with time, and he could flag him. But he played with an engine. So he beated (almost😆) the engine. And the position wouldn't be so bad for Vishy if he knew from move One he was basically playing against a Carlsen on steroids

@@andreitiberiovicgazdovici I get your point. But the thing is there isn’t any way to catch someone who cheats for just a few moves. Maybe they have a few ideas in a complex middle game and an engine tells them which is best. Tons of plausible deniability and there would be no way to catch them despite it being unfair. Same goes for someone who forgets their opening preparation. Tons of people memorize plenty of opening moves so using an engine in the opening then turning it off after getting a strong middle game position is equally reliable. I can’t see any way for these to be caught though

On no universe would anyone think an 800 could play like this and Kamath hasn't tried to convince anyone this was the case. Kamath didn't even attempt to convince anyone that he was NOT cheating before or after the game so in my opinion I don't think there was Ill intent. People are taking this too seriously
@phishhammer97333 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and Mark McGuire didn't shout "I'm not using steroids!" before and after every home run, but that didn't imply that everyone should have assumed he was. The assumption is that competitors are going to compete fairly. This guy didn't. It was a shitty thing to do. Any serious chess fan/player will understand this guy had no chance of beating Vishy, but that is not so obvious to everyone. I told my roommate about this story and he didn't even realize it was possible to cheat at chess using computers. This guy has talked up his interest in chess and how it made him a better businessman in the past, but then goes and disrespects the game by cheating when given a chance to play against one of the greatest players of all time. It's not the end of the world, but I understand why people are upset. Honestly, "he never said he WASN'T cheating" is the most nonsense argument I've heard in a while.
@eddiefalhaus61952 жыл бұрын
The 'just for fun' and 'taking this too seriously' doesn't make sense to justify cheating. An analogy- a fun charity event pits a bunch of joe schmoes who can work together against the best Jeopardy contestant of all time. But one of the guys found out the questions and looked up the answers ahead of time. The 'light-hearted' part isn't seeing a cheater cheat. The 'light-hearted' part is seeing all these people take on one hot shot. Cheating just wrecks the whole 'light-hearted' events as it was designed. You can't just unilaterally change the event to 'How many bots can a GM take on' without telling anyone.
@catgenocide69403 жыл бұрын
I honestly disagree with the entire sentiment against this guy. First of all, you guys are vastly underrating 800s. 800s CAN play like this. I've seen it. I've lost to 800s who play the exact same way. Second of all, he is a billionaire. With that kind of brain, its not implausible that he could be a very, very strong 800. Third, as humans we should always give the benefit of the doubt. Praise someone for playing well before you suspect them of cheating.
